NEC Offensive Player of the Year

Recommended Posts

I think it is going to come down to McCarty and Jason Butler of Wagner. Here are the stats:

(conference rank)

Butler: 284 carries (1st) / 1,475 yards (1st ) / 5.3 yards avg (5th) / 10 rushing TD (2nd) / 150.3 rushing yards per game (1st) / 1922 all-purpose (1st)

McCarty: 184 carries (3rd) / 1,122 yards (3rd) / 6.1 yards avg (3rd) / 9 rushing TD (T3rd) / 112.2 rushing yards per game (3rd) / 1122 all-purpose (3rd)

you also have to put in the McCarty is on the at-least NEC co-champions. I think Butler would get it, but what is everyones opinion. Am I right or wrong with the idea these two are the biggest contenders?

You might be right about Butler winning it but I don't think those stats are a good judge. They include the non-conference games which don't seem fair. Butler was putting up big stats when Wagner played Lasalle, Iona, Marist and Western Connecticut State while McCarty was rushing against playoff caliber teams like Montana, Colgate, Hofstra, Fordham and the Brook. (OK, maybe not the Brook)

In conference play McCarty's averging 145 yards while Butler's at 138. Butler and Wagner have played all their conference games while Albany is at CCSU. If McCarty gains 85 yards at CCSU he'll have more yardage on 50 less carries - that tells me all I need to know.
