  1. If anyone on the coaching staff or the ADept is reading this thread (Vic Cegles?!), please take note from the SDSU board...some fantastic lockerroom materials (not that the team needs an motiviation):

The email for season ticket holders arrived yesterday that asked for preorders for SDSU allotted tickets to the Championship game.. This year season ticket holders are allowed to request the number of tickets that match the number of season tickets purchased for the season at DJD. Of course, there is no charge until the Jackrabbits qualify for the Championship game.

Here's a statement that was put out today by Rodriguez. And this is the tweet, which was finally shared on their main X account.

He says, "As the nation’s first college dedicated to nanoscience and semiconductors, the University at Albany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering stands ready to work with our long-standing partners at NY CREATES..."

Seems the money went to specifically NY Creates...so how exactly the university will be involved seems TBD.

Sorry, travelling a lot for work so responses are delayed.  NY Creates is a P3 consortium that is run by NYS, and SUNY is the management company of the Albany NanoTech Complex via Fuller Road Management.  In essences, it's not 100% tied to UA but it is effectively UA from an outward standpoint and the creation of the Nanoscale school.

The money has already been earmarked for the following two items:

The $1 billion goes to purchase of the machinery, under the UA name (per my understanding).

The rest of the money goes to building a new, 55,000 sqft facility on the campus at the NanoScale Complex.

The private companies, as has always been the case, will be responsible for hiring the workers...while the State, via NYS and SUNY provide support staff, in addition to the access provided to the College of Nanoscale.

It's a massive step...and the next step is the key.  If we become a HUB, it changes the game entirely.  For comparison, it is the equivalent of what the federal government undertook with its partnership with MIT in setting up Draper Labs. That research facility has supported military (DARPA) and other government projects for nearly 100 years as a "non-profit" research lab.  This falls in the same scope, if awarded.

There are some real stinkers in CAA basketball.  William and Mary has never made the NCCAM basketball tournament.  They only made the CAA finals once.  Many of these schools have never invested in their basketball facilities or programs.  JMU only recently made this change.  If JMU had made investments in its hoops, it would now be in the Big 10.  JMU's long-term plan is to join the Big 10.

My long term plan is to be a billionaire.  JMU won't sniff the B1G during our lifetimes. That said, the CAA's allure has long faded for me.  I was a proponent however, the league's primary sports (outside of Baseball and softball) is just completely down in the all-sport realm.  I would take AE lax, soccer, and volleyball over the CAA's.  I am excluding swimming, golf, etc. from this analysis.  I would also argue that right now, men's and women's basketball in the AE is equal, if not better than the AE.  Track and Field, while new to the CAA as a conference sport, is slightly stronger in the CAA due to the NC A&T add to NU.  That said, the mid-top of the AE is now seriously, and regularly, challenging Albany and I think overall, the AE has a better top-to-bottom track and field group.

My only allure to the CAA--right now--is two-fold: 1) ensuring the the football product is protected.  I think every single CAA Football team is better off playing together; and 2) I do, very firmly believe, that the CAA will break up at some point...and I think being affiliated with the mid-atlantic / northern flank would be great.  I do not believe the PL will expand, they are less proactive than the AE...and that is saying much.

However, if the AE is NOT proactive (they should be going  right after SBU, NU, Hofstra, Drexel, Monmouth, and Towson) then I would want some of the AE schools to align with that set of schools.

At the end of the day, if that does not happen, I would be very good staying in the AE...but I do think for the AE's purposes, expansion time is now.

  4. Just absolutely massive news today, beyond my wildest dreams.

Governor Hochul announced a $billion dollar investment into NanoTech today, to go along with multiple billions from Tokyo Elecron, IBM, Micron, and Applied Materials to hit a 10 billion dollar semiconductor expansion at the school.  More money expected

this is absolutely wild and puts UA on the map to levels seen at top 10 R&D schools in the country.

  5. Team is light years better than next year.  I think we are a year away...but if Killings can keep this core around, always difficult in this era, then we could be very special next year.

Some strange calls..like that one on Marshall.  It was a clear block.

Reddish still needs to learn to not go for highlight stuff...cost us at least 6 points so far.  That said, he is a talent.

Maybe not too 25; but held our own against Marshall & Hawaii. And UA has gotten better since September. LIKE our chances.
ps  What/Who compares Sdakota to FBS top 25???

Everyone in the business.  Legitimately the are rated in the Top 30, ahead of JMU.  Can't tell you how many people I know in the business at the coaching and media level that have SDSU able to win the Sun Belt and CUSA right now...and doing very well in the MWC and AAC.

  7. Mind numbing to me:

First, SDSU is basically a top 25 program (all schools), coming in at 28 in Sagarin.  However, Sagarin has 'Nova, Idaho, and S. Illinois all ahead of us...as well as S. Dakota.  I don't get it at all.  It's literally appalling considering we beat 2 of those teams and "Nova's OOC was weak as heck (as was USD).

That said, Albany is ahead of 20 FBS teams, coming in at 122 and are the 8th highest ranked FCS team.

Massey has SDSU as #26, with Albany as #107 (or the 7th ranked FCS team, one behind 'Nova).

Charter flight to SD appears to be about 3 hours. It's much closer then Idaho...I don't hate this decision. You have your own beds for a few days, facilities to recover in etc. They can be out there Wednesday am. We can practice in the cold at home. To much is made of travel...it's a 3 hour flight on a charter and not commercial.

Yep, thought about it and it makes sense.  They can fly out Thurs morning.

That makes sense...probably state pinching pennies. That'd be a shame. Tire our kids out and lose the game.

State has nothing to do with it.  Could be the NCAA...I doubt it.  I have a feeling this was a school decision, including the coaching staff.  Not great IMHO.  Historically, schools that do this are up against the wall.  I think Maine decided to stay out west one year.   I also blame the NCAA.  Having a game that late, we should have gotten the saturday slot.

  10. Here is what I know from those I have spoken with:

1- Hampton and A&T could very well be moving back to MEAC if certain folks at each school have their way

2- Drexel and NU would want the PL if offered

3- This nonsense about the Horizon is just that...there isn't a school in the CAA that fits the profile.

4- The AE hasn't reached out to a single school.  This disturbs me greatly.

5- The CAA is likely to expand and officially go to divisions.

6- The consensus is that 2 schools are wanted by the North...while the Southern schools want 1 and 1.  This presumes Charleston leaving.

7- Albany is considered as a "shoo in" by some for the 1 northern spot, fairfield and quin for the other.

Ultimately, however, here is what I think WILL happen...and it will happen fast if it does:

1- NC A&T and Hampton to MEAC

2- The schools of the CAA can't agree on the "high point" land mine (the southern schools want high point).

3- Wimington (massive proponent of High Point) takes a Southern bid.  This leads to Campbell also jumping ship.  Elon and W&M look around and begrudgingly go to the Southern AS A VERY LAST RESORT (Elon due to recruiting territory for the general student pop (north) and W&M for academic reasons.

4- The AE and CAA leftovers merge.  The 9 AE schools join with Monmouth, Hofstra, Northeastern, Drexel, Towson, and SBU.   That is 15.  They go after either Fairfield or Quinnipiac for the CT presence, it's pretty much a toss up between those two.  That gets you to 16.

5- The CAA Football flag stays as a separate business entity, the members holding the only votes to the league.  The league would be: Maine, UNH, URI, Bryant, Albany, Stony Brook, Monmouth, Towson, and Villanova.  Richmond will go to the Southern.  The CAA football members make a big push to bring on Fordham to get to 10.  The CAA football league gets 9 conference games.  They play their one G5 level payday game (150k) and then they play 1 OOC against the NEC, PL, IVY, OVC, Southland, MVFC, or Southern each year.  The only real wrinkle is if Nova decides to downgrade expenses and takes on the AI, and they go to the PL who desperately needs another team.

6- The MAAC plucks LeMoyne or Wagner...though I think the latter may go D3.

That's what I see happening in the next two years.  If it occurs, the AE/CAA is a really good league.

I think everyone here is a little overconfident.  Not saying you shouldn't be or bashing for it but Idaho is very good, their fans are gonna show up and I'm sure be loud and it's not easy to win playoff games on the road. I'm confident our team will play well and it will be a close game. I'm calling it a tossup.

Agree. Heavily agree.  Idaho can win the title.  SIU was no slouch.

  12. categorically untrue.  Just flew from Albany, Buffalo, and Toronto to my clients in the area and  then onward to Salt Lake.

there is a multi leg flight through Dallas on Republic (AA). It sucks and is long but it is doable.  You can also fly to Spokane, which is about 90 miles from Moscow, ID.  This is the best way to go, bar none. Delta, American, and United all make the run out of Albany and it’s way cheaper than going to PUW airport. It’s also only one stop.  The drive from Spokane is easy peasy.

I literally just took this flight last week.

Anyone going should consider bringing hiking gear if that’s your thing.  Stunning hikes not far from town.

I stand by my earlier statement, the only scheduled air service is between Pullman WA and Seattle WA & Boise ID via Horizon Air, a subsidiary of Alaska Air.
