  1. Big time win today.  Just got a verbal from Ma'Kaye Taylor, out of Philly.  Tough kid, who can move and can put the ball on the floor.  Projected as a 4/5 and is listed anywhere between 6'7 and 6'9.  Beat out Buffalo, Manhattan, Fairfield, LaSalle, NC A&T, Merrimack, and Towson.  Basically, a CAA, bordeline A-10 kid.

If we keep Beagle, this kid gives us some serious depth down low with Neely, Newton, and Reddish.  Margoupis I always thought would be a crafty 3.

It might be in this thread somewhere but what is the premium for section 104 and 120?  Seats aren’t great for hoops.  Is this a food/drink section?

100 per seat, with a 275 GDAC donation.  It has the larger, cushioned premium seats and is the "Club" section with food and drink.  For 31 per game, all in cost with donation, it's not bad.

I am letting the pricing marinate for bit before I comment, however that said, the pricing is very similar to what Nate's described during a sidebar during the tour of the Broadview Center.

My opinion of course however, $42 for the most expensive season ticket on a per game basis. $16.60 for the cheapest tickets (per game), and just under $21 per game for the majority of the seats...is beyond fair for a college in a mid-sized City.

  4. This has been an insanely good performance. Anyone, anyone, I do mean anyone who can’t see that, after 1.5 games, this team is vastly improve just is out for Gattuso.

Marshall actually got better (transfers) on defense than last year, and last year’s team was lights out…one of the best in FBS.  So I’m not worrying about the offense.

Defensively, we are playing unreal football after a slow start.

special teams, aside from the missed FG, is much better.

Remember, Marshall was pre-season #6 in the Sun Belt, and they are fourth in the stacked East Division (JMU, App St, Coastal, then Marshall).

I am very happy and now, as much as I want a win…I’m just hoping for no injuries.  I expect Marshall to come out swinging, so we need to move the ball on our opening drive.

Been watching on an IPAD. Did Winston. come back?  His injury did not look good at all.  That would be a major blow.

The PE Project involves three parts...

    • Enabling - moving portions of the occupants and functions out of PE and into temp facilities (SEFCU/Broadview being one location)
    • Phase 01 is the reno of the Basement and First Floor Levels.
    • Phase 02 is the reno of the remainder of the PE Building.

Things may change somewhat depending on the timing and funding, but expect the work to go on for several years.

Thanks Brutus.  Really appreciate it.  Any chance you can give a high level description of what is targeted for Phase 1 or Phase 2.

Could they use the current SEFCU gym as the new hall of fame room, after the PE building renovations are done?

BTW thank you to all of you who are taking pictures and posting them here.  Every picture gets me more excited to make the hour and a half drive to see the renovated Broadview Center.

That would seem to be pretty small, but would make sense.  I think that room is less than the 2500 sq feet of the current room, so not sure what kind of banquet set up you could have.

As an aside, UNH just announced an additional renovation of the Whit (similar to the expansion that we saw for Phase 3 of Broadview (proposed expansion).  Looks great...and rumor has it that they will be updating the Basketball facility a bit.

Honestly, the AE is doing some quiet, wonderful things overall.  Shockingly, it's UVM that is falling very much behind the times for both Hoops and Hockey.

Last coat of polyurethane applied to the game court today. The Hall of Fame Room is being converted to a sports medicine room

This is a MAJOR change and indicates two things to me.  One, this explains some of the "cost changes" I've heard about with regards to Broadview's rehab.  (I would think, could be wrong).  Two, this confirms (to me) that the football building is still VERY much in the future as that facility would have sports medicine as well.

This is a welcome move as our sports medicine facilities are woefully inadequate for our level.  What will be interesting to me is if they convert the current facilities on the arena level to another use and will they do the same in the PE gym, e.g. are they consolidating all sports med to the new sports med center.  The new facility will be a decent size at 2500 sq feet, however unless they are putting in the cold and hot hydro pools, we are still a bit behind the times.

Finally, where is the Hall of Fame room going?  There needs to be an area to put the Hall of Fame inductee plaques, and what room will be used for "events"?

Time will tell ... unless Killings has shared his plans for his new signing with you.

Whatever happens, we have depth in a position that we have rarely had any.

The kid is a bench player for Argentina. I've actually watched him play.  He's a really good, raw signing based on need.  If he plays as a starter, then we have suffered an injury.

The Big East was all about UConn MBB ... not Seaton Hall (17-16 overall) a first-round loss in the Big East Tournament and a first-round loss in the NIT.

Do you understand what a Power 5 teams is?  Just because a Power 5 teams sucked (and let's be clear, Seton Hall lost a ton this year to the portal, had suspect replacements in the portal, and Hollaway isn't known for offensive juggernauts (rather defensive prowess)).  They will be mid-bottom BE this year.  That said, as a mid-bottom BE team, they were ranked 58 (average).  That's a POWER 5 team.

    End discussion.

Albany, is playing a Power 5 team.  And to be clear, it's the Power 5 plus BE as always described.

  10. In a move I predicted (long ago), Bryant is going to the CAA for football.  I will repost what i posted on the AE board and based on some talks with some heavy hitting contacts in the CAA and just generally the world of TV/College Sports (executives at networks and in leagues, including lawyers / accountants advising the P5).

"This is very interesting and to me, it solidifies one thing, and one thing only: ANY CAA expansion will be either a hoops only school or will come from the AE. That's if the CAA expands.

The NCAA Tourney is going to 96 teams, likely within 3-5 years. Don't expect the CAA to get multiple bids in that scenario. In addition, you will likely see the reduction--to the bare minimum--of buy games. Just won't happen the way the TV inventory push is moving the P5 around. Therefore, I strongly believe that you will see one of the following: 1) Single sport regionalized leagues with bids; or 2) THE CAA breaking along N/S lines.

Ultimately, the latter would be interesting because now you have the following "Northern" teams that host "all-sports" as we know "all-sports": Maine, UNH, Albany, Bryant, Monmouth, Stony Brook, Delaware, and Towson. Affiliate-wise, you will not see Villanova or URI veer from that group. That's a 10 team football league, with 8 who sponsor all-sports. Does that group of Northern 8 head to their own league and combine with a mix and match of the AE and CAA? Do the southern CAA schools form their own league or move to the southern? Do some "profile" or "wanna be" schools attempt a move up (looking at you, Campbell and Charleston).

So many things will change in the next 3-5 years, you can bank it. The P5 moves will absolutely trickle on down.

As for CAA Football, it is so, so interesting because I actually liked the way they set the pod format up. Now, here's how I see the 16 team league:

    North
    Maine
    UNH
    Albany
    URI
    Bryant
    Stony Brook
    Monmouth
    Villanova

    South
    Delaware
    Towson
    Richmond
    W&M
    Hampton
    Elon
    Campbell
    NC A&T

Look to see 9 conference games and 2 OOC (goes back to my "buy games" will be a thing of the past. That gives you 7 on you side and 2 rotating games each year.

This poses a solvable problem and unsolvable problem. Solvable- preserving the Villanova-Delaware rivalry (you make it a protected cross-over game. However, that means they will play only 1 team in the North every 7 years. That's ridiculous but doable.

Unsolvable problem: Towson- they DO NOT want to be in the South for Football, they've made that VERY clear.

One other side note: this could be a move to protect against the loss of Delaware if they make the stupid decision to go FBS (and it is absolutely stupid considering the current landscape in the FBS)."
