  1. I deleted most of my comments in the thread. It got out of hand. I just wrote a little "sorry to seem them go" farewell type message, which was replied to with "he sucks and isn't a D1 player anyway" so it devolved into an argument. Not sure why it always has to be negative, especially when the kid is leaving and its over anyway. I never said don't post negativity, in fact one of the deleted posts said that they should be able to take it, as they are adults, it just seems overblown for a relatively small community, on a public site, that I know for a fact the players read, and I am confident that recruits check out when looking at schools. No rainbows needed in every post, but there is a time and place for constructive criticism vs. what reads as hate from anonymity.

The constant negativity and trolling kills forums. It's why I no longer bother to even read the Football forum 99% of the time, and makes me not want to read or participate in the discussion in the basketball forum anymore (but Im too addicted to leave). I know that for at least a few BPF members, its why they are no longer active on this site.

  2. So we now have 2 ships open with Flory and Brooks transferring (mentioned in another thread, and on Verbal Commits), so that explains a bunch of the offers going out.

Anyone know what happened to Nathan Fromm? He looked great, supposedly committed to UA last year, then ended up back in JUCO for another year. Maybe he didn't graduate and was ineligible? His verbal commits page shows no offers at this time. I thought he was shooting guard, but they VC now shows him as a SF

  3. Not at all unexpected, but disappointing. I thought Brooks could play a major part, and maybe even help with the PG situation. JUCO players historically have taken a year to develop. He was undersized, but that hasn't always mattered as much in the AE. I was really loving the #domore attitude of Flory. I guess with injuries, combined with the 5 freshman starters, he didn't see enough playing time in his future to justify staying so far away from home. It wouldn't surprise me to see him land at a school at a similar level to the AE, but closer to home. North Dakota maybe?

Interesting article. He said all the right things and he had a great experience for him. He won't admit it publicly, I'm sure, but at the end of the day, while leaving UA and trying his game at a higher level might have been the right move, Villanova wasn't the right fit for him. His game was always crafty moves in the paint and drives to the basket that opened up the 3 point shot. In the Villanova system, he became a spot up shooter and was mostly uninvolved in the offense. His defense was surprisingly good. His peripherals and effort were great, but he was never able to do what he does best on the offensive end, so he never got into the flow. It killed him. His shot release was lightning fast, but if the other team knows you are just a shoot guy, then I don't care how quick your release is. There are many other teams in that conference or others where he could have done much better.

I'm happy he got the opportunity. Happy he will have one of the strongest job resumes post college of anyone in the country. He will get a job wherever he wants if he hangs up his sneakers and doesn't attempt to play pro in Europe.

Had he stayed, UA would have been much better, and his name would end up as an all-time great here, but as others have said, he will always be a side note here. Not sure he and David both wearing purple and gold another season would have been enough to beat UVM and dance for the Danes.

If you ever read this: Thanks for the memories Joe. Good luck in whatever path you take in life.

As for David Nichols: hopefully the injury isn't too bad and he can contribute to Florida State in the sweet 16 and do the #purplefam proud. I have them losing in the Final 4 in a few of my brackets to Duke in an ACC championship rematch.

Great experience for both of them. Glad to have met them both and I enjoyed rooted for them for 4 years.

I'm sure the pro-Cremo/Nichols folks will tell us to shut up but...like I said before, he will be forgotten in 3-4 years. No one will ever talk about Joe Cremo like we talk about Wilson, Hooley, Sam, Iati, Siggers, etc.

Us pro Nichols and Cremo people never disagreed that they would end up forgotten,  we just said stop posting every other day about how you don't care about them. Obviously you did, or you wouldn't have read the thread or felt compelled to post about how much you didn't care.

The thread was used as a spot to discuss what they did in their new uniforms. That's all. As soon as Florida State is done, there will be no reason to discuss them anymore.

  6. It wasn't much, didn't have the actual RFP, but had a contact to get the RFP document from. May have only been turf replacement. Don't remember. I look at the reporter everyday for work, but I don't get alerts for this type of stuff as it isn't what my company does. If I remember at work tomorrow I'll post. My login credentials are saved on my computer and I forget my password lol.

Lol this thread really has gone derailed. How did this become the butts in their seat thread 2.0. attention span is quite small lol. Look at the shiny thing over here.

Don't 100% agree. The complaints about Benson can all boil down to achievement and communication.

The news of this RFP hitting the contract reporter goes a long way towards achievement. Communication is the next step.

  8. I'm not advocating for a conference change anytime soon, but the facilities should be designed with those ambitions in mind. How easy would it be to renovate again to fit in the CAA, A10, or even the Big East. I don't see anything like that happening anytime soon, but this building and investment should have the year 2045 in mind. (did I just type that number? Wow)

I used to think 6500-7000 too, but that is too big. We averaged a little over 2k this season albeit a bad season. Our best season attendance avg was about 3500 I think. With a 6500-7000 seat arena players will feel like they’re playing in an empty facility.

I didn't mean 6500-7000 immediately, I meant choosing a design that can be easily expanded to that level, or even more. The school shouldn't just plan for today's needs or even the next 5-10. It should be built with foresight for 20-30. UA tends to be shortsighted and that would be a shame.

The capital region has multiple venues that can hold 1000-5000 people with the armory, the palace, proctors, glens falls civic center, etc. We have the TUC for big events. There really isn't much at the mid-level.

If this was a brand new facility maybe, but they are constrained with the footprint of the building.

    Why?

Here is crude microsoft paint drawing.... The Red shows where SEFCU could be expanded without losing any parking or even having to move the road.  According to google earth, this expansion of the building would almost exactly double the potential square footage.

The orange is an area that is either open ground now, or the university has been buying property in that could turn into additional parking spaces. There is plenty of room.

  11. The consensus of the posters on this board seems to be 4500-5000 seating capacity would be the goal. I am going to disagree. I don't think we will fill much bigger anytime soon, but spending 8 figures on something that doesn't have room for growth is shortsighted IMO. It will be 25-30 years before something else gets built. I'd rather see something in the 6500-7000 range with all chairbacks, and the ability to cover a section if it will be too empty. Something like big UA sheets that cover the corner sections or something.

The venue will be used for graduations, concerts, and all types of other events. Why go too small, as long as there is a way to hide empty sections.

  12. I saw photos of a preliminary design of a renovation if SEFCU Arena 2.5 years ago. They exist. I can't speak about any details, nor do I remember them anyway. I am sure they have been changed multiple times since then, but I do remember being surprised how many of the things incorporated were suggestions from one of the old butts in seats threads.
