  1. Northern Arizona also offered Mathieu..the day after we did. Sounds like he's been mainly playing PG at JUCO this year.
  2. I thought the same thing. Seems kind of up in the air who can/will play SG next year (not thinking too far ahead..only in terms of recruiting). Both Hooley and Evans seem to be more PG than SG..but both are combos to some extent..I guess. Fulton played PG in high school..then SG at St. Peter's. Most recruiting profiles list him as a PG..not sure what he's been playing in JUCO. I think Page is probably more of a wing/SF..but who knows. And Gibson's a bit of a question mark with his injury.
  3. The team has struggled to varying degrees in the first half of three of the past four games (Navy being the exception). Hopefully they can put together two strong halves against a team that's always been tough to play on the road.
  4. Reports out yesterday that we've offered JUCO PG Dre Mathieu. He's a sophomore at Central Arizona College right now after playing at Morehead State last year. https://twitter.com/TheRecruitScoop/status/286563612988940289
  5. That first half was UGLY..second half was a lot more 'normal' with 38 points. While it wasn't the prettiest of wins..I was at least happy to see the team grab a W despite a rough offensive performance. Team also did a nice job limiting Brown's outside chances. Only made 5 on 18 attempts..both well below season averages. Let's keep it rolling into conference play!
  6. They were last year..but they're much improved so far this year. 5-7 on the season..with an additional win against non-DI Marymount. Pomeroy has us as just a 1 point favorite with a 56% chance of victory.
  7. Off nights from both Black and Iati were tough to overcome. It doesn't seem that Quinnipiac was the best of match-ups for us..but the two late turnovers down the stretch certainly didn't help. I was able to watch the Singelais video before he deleted his post..and I didn't see the ball hit the rim.. probably too close to call though. Quinnipiac was/is one of the tougher OOC contests for us..outside of Ohio State and Washington..so I don't think the loss is the end of the world..no pun intended. Hopefully it helps the team as they head into conference play in a couple weeks. On to Navy!
  8. Looks like Jackson being listed might have been a mistake? Nominee list now has Black and no Jackson. http://www.cousyaward.com/nominees.php Congrats to Mike!
  9. CAA Schedule - http://www.ualbanysports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205830348&DB_OEM_ID=15800
  10. Really would've liked to see Quinnipiac in the AE. They're already playing more than half our conference in basketball this year anyway..us, Boston, Hartford, Vermont and Maine.
  11. There are no track/field events on the campus for students to watch. That will change with the new track and field facilities. I believe Athletics puts out the same new signee/recruiting info for every sport. In fact..I just read yesterday that the volleyball team signed three new student-athletes. Obviously the media focuses more on basketball and football..just as us fans here on the board do. Attendance (goes back to 06-07 on the team's 'Statistics' page): 12-13 - 2612 (without the benefit of BPG..and bigger AE games like UVM and Stony Brook) 11-12 - 2480 10-11 - 2163 09-10 - 2646 08-09 - 2826 07-08 - 3031 06-07 - 3175
  12. Attendance definitely could/should improve..but it's probably worthwhile to note that we're leading the league in attendance so far. Through 3 games we're averaging 2,692..Binghamton's next at 2,392..while Vermont's at 2,238. Only other AE school above 1,100 is Stony Brook at 1,161. Certainly want to improve..but I think some perspective is always useful.
  13. North end was full, south end about a third full. I didn't think it was a bad job by the students tonight. Agreed..the north end zone eventually filled up..just took a little longer than usual.
  14. The Danes return to the SEFCU tomorrow against St. Francis. The Terriers are 2-3 on the season..with wins at Brown and at Lafayette..and losses at Illinois, at Norfolk State and home against Army. They have a pretty quick tempo and average nearly 71ppg..but have difficulty on the defensive end allowing more than 75ppg. I think it's a game the Danes should be able to come out with the W in..as long as they continue to play the game we've seen for much of the season. SFNY isn't a push over though..they finished 15-15 last season and have a kid Travis Nichols who dropped 6 or 7 threes on us last season in Brooklyn..if I remember correctly. This season sophomore forward Jalen Cannon has put up big numbers through five games for St. Francis..16ppg and 9.8rpg. Metcalf, Puk, Rowley and Devlin have to take that challenge seriously..just like they did with OD on Saturday. Let's keep it up Danes!
  15. As UA'08 pointed out..UAlbany was ranked to start the 06-07 season..25th on 11/8/06. http://www.ualbanysports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=70287&SPID=7999&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=15800&ATCLID=859829 I can't seem to find whether or not we were ranked the following week..despite beginning the season with wins over Bucknell and Delaware.
  16. Can't blame Santillo..or the TU..for that one. UAlbany's press release says it was the first time. When I saw it mentioned..I also seemed to remember the team being ranked during one of the NCAA seasons.
  17. Separate from the longer-term home/away issue..I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts and predictions are for tomorrow night's game. I think the two teams are much closer than their records through seven games suggest. Add in the fact that it's a road game for the Danes and that these contests have been tight more often than not..I think it will be another very close game. UAlbany had serious problems with OD last year (though who hasn't)..and our interior players remain the same from that game. The Saints have struggled on offense, but have performed well on defense and rebound the heck out of the ball. I think they actually profile pretty similar to Wagner. We need to play solid defense and take intelligent shots to help limit the rebounds opportunities. In addition to OD, Hymes has been producing at a pretty high-level through his first year-plus and Rob Poole has improved quite a bit over last year. I think it will be near impossible to stop OD, but we need Puk and Metcalf to battle. Getting him in a bit of foul trouble early could be big. Our perimeter defense is definitely improved over last year..so hopefully that helps against a team that puts up nearly 22 three-point attempts per game. While Siena's 2-5, their two losses at home have been by 1 point against Vermont and 1 point against UMass. Both very good teams with a combined 7-3 record. Those 3 losses are against UConn, NC State and Tennessee. I think this will be a much tougher game than many fans are assuming. Hopefully we come out with a win!
  18. “We want to win this game for the University, for our alums, for our students, for our fans, that's why we want to win this game,” said Brown. http://troyrecord.com/articles/2012/11/27/sports/doc50b4495735fbf593140214.txt?viewmode=fullstory Based on that quotation I think it's clear that Coach Brown gets it. If you want him to say something like "yeah, I hate those mother f*ckers" then you might be waiting for a while. Siena's obviously still a very very big rival..but it's just not the same (heated) as it was decades ago. I think a lot of current students and recent alumni would just as rather beat the likes of Stony Brook, Binghamton and Vermont.
  19. That was my understanding as well...after the season they met and I believe the coaching staff said we could really use you one more year and he was like ALRIGHT! I think I might have worded things wrong, but why wouldn't he just play while in the graduate program? Or was the other position better for his long-term basketball future? I believe Graduate Assistants are often there for two years..so Iati could've had essentially his entire graduate degree paid for. Now the GA spot is full and Iati's done playing after this season.
  20. ?? Am I missing something? My understanding is he was originally going to take advantage of the open Grad Assistant spot on the coaching staff to help pay for a Master's degree.
  21. Thanks Dane Pound! Great job..as always!
  22. Santillo reported that it's Drew Smith. Violation of teams rules.
  23. Not the best of news from Singelais.. "UAlbany football coach Bob Ford said a significant player to be suspended for Sat. game vs. Wagner. Wouldn't say who. Will be announced Fri. Ford said suspension is for disciplinary reasons. For what it's worth, it's not QB Will Fiacchi, according to Ford."
  24. Santillo - "Coach Brown said Jacob Iati will start - I'd assume alongside Black, Devlin, Guerrier and Metcalf for opener 11/9 vs Duquesne"
