  1. I think that should finish up the 2013 class then..right? Graduating: Black - G Iati - G Guerrier - G/F Metcalf - C/F Bringing In: Fulton - G Lassen - G/F Ennema - F Shengelia - C/F I wonder what Wiegmann's plans are after this year. He has two years of eligibility left..but at the Meet & Greet Coach Brown said he's on track to earn his degree in May. It was clear that he's serious about his academics..and I believe (?) he also said he's interested in attending Med School. The early signing period beginnings 11/14..so a lot of this should become 'official' pretty soon.
  2. I know Towson has played some serious competition..but it's gotta feel pretty good to be ranked 23/25 with a losing record at nearly two-thirds of the way through the season.
  3. I enjoyed the open practice and scrimmage..especially the practice. As a poster mentioned..it's a bit tough to evaluate when the team is playing itself..but it at least provides some insight on roles. For those who couldn't make it..the Mike Black led team beat the DJ Evans' led team 38-27. The teams were Black, Johnson, Rowley, Devlin, Puk and Williams vs. Evans, Hooley, Guerrier, Wiegmann, Metcalf and Page. Gibson and Iati sat out. I did hear that Gibson's MRI came back negative. My thoughts on our new players: Page - Took a number of shots..but missed a number of shots..wasn't really involved much past that. If those shots start going in..he'll be a great shooter off the bench. Hooley - Still looks a little slowed with ankle/foot issues. Seemed in control and was able to get to the hoop a few times. Could definitely be an important contributor if/when he gets healthy. Wiegmann - Extremely active..always around the ball. Rebounded better in practice than in the scrimmage. Game is similar to Devlin's (rebounding and outside shooting)..but perhaps a bit more athletic. Could definitely challenge for the starting 4 spot. Johnson - Definitely the wing/slasher type player with a bit of an outside shot..in the mold of Siggers. Was able to get to the rim..but will have to be careful not to fall into the 'charge' trap. FWIW..he played SG during the scrimmage with Rowley at the 3. Evans - Played PG well during the scrimmage..even beating Black a couple times. High energy defender..seemed very emotional..in a good way. Starting line-up is tough..a lot of different ways the staff could go. Black will obviously start..I'll guess Puk over Metcalf..and probably Devlin over Wiegmann. I thought I heard previous talk of wanting to move Black off the ball..which could put Iati or Evans at the point..but that would obviously be a very small back court. Depending on the PG situation..I think either Guerrier and/or Johnson will start..most likely Guerrier if there's room for just one of them.
  4. Well now that's a bit of a late move.
  5. Danes are 2nd among teams receving votes in the media poll. We're behind Northern Iowa in RV..and Samford entered the rankings at 25. Towson is at 17..with a 2-3 record. Santillo..who votes in the poll..had us at 16. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/misc/cfoot225poll.aspx
  6. I also thought the announcers were a bit homerish..though the underdog vs. favorite explanation could definitely make sense. I liked the PbP guy..color guy seemed way too high energy for my liking. He sounded like Tony Siragusa. In the end..the Danes really did dominate. TOs were the only thing that kept Bryant in the game in the first half. The defense really impressed me..especially given the added pressure of the extra possessions we gave Bryant.
  7. From the staff's respective twitter accounts..it looks like we have a recruit from the Philly area on an official visit today. Any guesses as to who it is?
  8. One time UAlbany target Josh James (Stepinac) verballed to Monmouth. http://www.lohud.com/article/20120926/SPORTS02/309260037
  9. Will a Top 25 ranking really not happen? Lose by one score on the road to the #5 team..then win easily on the road against the #22 team. Would be pretty disappointing not to see the Danes in the Top 25 this week.
  10. Studied or worked at DI Minnesota, Missouri and Georgia.
  11. I like it. Modern-looking. Lots of stuff there, but it's pretty clean for the amount of content and they still have the same user-friendly category bar at the top.
  12. "UAlbany names former player Jon Iati as an assistant coach. His brother, Jacob is a UAlbany senior guard." - Singelais
  13. The chairbacks require the $1000 donation to buy 2 seats at $140 per seat. Lower level non-chairbacks are $90 per seat. Upper level is $60 per seat.
  14. From Pete Dougherty at the TU on Thursday: "Charlie Voelker, associate athletic director of external affairs at UAlbany, said the money that has been paid to WOFX (980 AM) in past years will be earmarked toward enchancing live streaming of athletic events." So for those of you who aren't fans of the move to WCDB..would you rather have 980 or workable video streaming? And unless you found a money tree.."both" isn't an option.
  15. Looks like a great get! Offers listed from us, Kent State and San Francisco. Interest from Iowa, Creighton, Northern Iowa, etc. Can we just call Albany 'Iowa of the East' now?
  16. AE Board and @JUCORecruiting have said that we received a commitment from Levan Shengelia for 2013. 6'9" and 250lb definitely fits the definition of 'big.' Will be at Odessa JC (TX) in 12-13. Played at Rhode Island in 11-12 and was a medical RS there in 10-11. Played in 30 games (started 1) last season for URI..averaging 9.5mpg, 2.2ppg and 1.8rpg. From AE Board: "He's a bull to be sure. I've seen him play a few times. Not very skilled and gets in foul trouble, but he's an enforcer and can grab some rebounds." Doesn't look to be too much more than a banger/bruiser..but that's something I think we definitely need..especially after watching Dallis Joyner knock us around for three games last season.
  17. I haven't seen any press releases..but Lucious Jordan tweeted a couple ago days that he's joining the James Madison staff. It looks like their 11-12 DBO was promoted to an Assistant this off-season..so it would make sense that Jordan's taking that spot. JMU's head coach is a former Siena player..and the staff includes Mike Deane and a former assistant at Marist.
  18. So that's now: Friday 11/9 Duquesne Sunday 11/11 @ Ohio State Tuesday 11/13 @ Washington Saturday 11/17 University of Missouri-Kansas City (Moheghan Sun) Sunday 11/18 Loyola/Norfolk State (Moheghan Sun) Monday 11/26 Wagner Saturday 12/1 @ Siena Wednesday 12/5 St. Francis NY Friday 12/21 Quinnipiac (Day after finals aka no students) Friday 12/28 @ Navy Should we also have a return to Dartmouth this year since they played at SEFCU in 11-12 and we didn't play them in 10-11?
  19. Wagner at SEFCU on 11/26 http://www.wagnerathletics.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball&
  20. Looks like we'll also be at Navy on 12/28..our return. http://www.navysports.com/sports/m-baskbl/sched/navy-m-baskbl-sched.html
  21. St. Francis (NY) at SEFCU 12/5..return game from last year http://www.sfcathletics.com/news/2012/7/19/MBB_0719125404.aspx
  22. Looks like CAA Football's twitter account has more or less addressed the URI situation. Commissioner Yeager has officially asked URI to reconsider it's planned departure for the NEC after this season, but they have not officially decided on the (re)invite. CAA asked UAlbany to remove URI from its banners pending URI's decision.
  23. How could we convince an FBS school to play us if we're not a counter? (honest question)
  24. I thought I remember the BB return game being a 13-14 game. Could be mistaken though.
