Kind of UA -related --5k cross-country race

Given the predisposition of this list and its members towards atheltic activities I wanted to pass along an invitation to those of you who might be interested in a 5k cross-country run sponsored by the Albany Running Exchange.

 

ARE is student group here at UA. The event will be held on Sunday April 10 at Rensselaer Lake Park, near the main campus on Fuller Road.

Thanks for the link it sounds like a fun race. I've seen people with the Albany Running Exchange shirts on at some local races and wondered what they are about. I'm glad you supplied the link to answer that question. If I'm not mistaken there is some crossover with the RACC Rowdies and the Running Exchange. I know one of the ARE members (I don't know his name) also used to be one of the tee shirt throwers in the RACC

That was probably Josh Merlis, one of the founders of ARE

It is. I just found his picture on the ARE website.

 

I'm happy to see that the race has been won the past two years by former UA runner Jamie Rodrigeuz. Easily one of the better runners in the area. I've always hoped to see him go head to head with Tom Dalton (Siena grad) but I haven't seen it happen.

Thanks for mentioning this 72/74. It was a fun event and the musical performed at the awards ceremony was priceless.

This goes back a bit. But there were some nice head to head matchups between UA Alum and Hall of Famer Bill Vanos and Tom Dalton in the early 90's. My biased recollection is that Vanos won most if not every time.
