Rumors, rumor, rumors. Coach Marr is NOT going any where. He is the best thing for Albany sports. He has 5 years of post season experience, in a 6 year tenure. Plus he is a national assistant, bringing notoriety to the program, and his success with the team has brought us John Fallon Field.

Duke needs to remake its image in lacrosse. Look for a private school coach. Navy, Army, Notre Dame, or a school of this type where discipline and self control are a major part of the collegiate life.

If "notorious," which has nothing negative in its roots, nonetheless has come to mean "infamous," what is "notoriety"? One dictionary's definition — "the quality of being notorious" — seems unassailable. So when the writer said it was "not in Thomas's personality to court notoriety," the passage was open to misunderstanding. (Other things made it clear that the writer was paying a compliment.) As a synonym for simple fame, "notoriety" has gained ground. But it's still better used to mean a bad reputation — ill fame. Less room for misunderstanding.

I think you meant fame, renown or distinction, which is certainly true.

My brother is a lacrosse guy at the college level and he tells me that coach Marr is one of the better candidates out there to take over at Duke.

I am sure he will be interviewed...or talked about...but there are two other candidates WAY before him.

I think Marr would stay anyway.
