NCAA Women's Tournament

Recommended Posts

Both Hartford and Marist advanced yesterday in the NCAA Women's Tournament. Congrats to both teams, especially the Hartford Hawks of the America East Conference. Ironically, one of Marist's two losses came when playing against Hartford (Hartford beat Marist 49-32, at Marist).

Nationally ranked Marist (7 seed) came from 13 down on Saturday to beat Depaul (10 seed). By way of background, Marist pretty much destroyed everyone this year with the exception of losing to Ohio State (at OSU) by 6 points; and losing to Hartford (at Marist) by a score of 49-32 (as noted above)! Marist also beat Utah 70-66 in overtime.

With the exception of the OSU game (L), Hartford game (L), and Utah game (W-OT), one of the teams that challenged nationally ranked Marist the best all year was UAlbany. Marist beat UAlbany 75-71 earlier in the year at SEFCU Arena. Of all the teams that lost to Marist this year, UAlbany came the closest to beating the Red Foxes. I heard from a friend and alumnus of Marist that the Marist people were very impressed with UAlbany's athleticism and vigor in that game. Good luck next year to the Lady Danes!

It'd be great to see Hartford make a sweet 16 run. I thought Marist should have gotten a higher seed than 7. They make a nice run in the tournament last year, were 31-2 and in the top 25 for the later half of the season.
