Total of a full page in today's Gazette on the success of UA spring sports programs, McElroy saying how much the public has been calling him with congrats. Quotes from Cannata and Mueller, both saying that player development is key because they get raw talent (Mueller: "If you have the horses, you can ride"). Big pictures of Kroft, Lindgren, and 800M champ Gered Burns. Mention of the master plan, need for football, lacrosse and track facilities, and maintenance of high academic standards while building on-field success.

You beat me to the punch. The Gazette article, which is spread over two pages, is an excellant read and I would encourage everyone to invest the 50 cents.

Of course, this leads to the obvious question, why doesn't the Times Union ever afford this level of coverage. The attendance Saturday night was without the benefit of any mention in the Times Union.

The Times Union is a Siena puppet publication. They should be disgusted. Most college cities...outside of Beantown, run a page a day on their schools. With RPI, UNION, Siena, Skidmore, Albany, Sage, Albany Pharmacy, and St. Rose, the Times Union should have a dedicated two pages to sports stories that are only college. A paper that won the best online award a few years back is now pretty weak on its college coverage. Albany as a community needs to start embracing the fact that the CDistrict is a college town as well as the capital of the Empire State. It starts w/ media coverage.

unfortunately, the tu blows siena ... call them and they'll tell you, "that is what the market demands" ... i've asked if they applied their hard news coverage to this same philosophy, no response ... during basketball season they have a link/forum for siena basketball, no mention of other programs ... hopefully, with a significant increase in the number of wins for UA in 04-05, the perceived "market demands" will change

The Times Union is a Siena puppet publication.

Another example, the T-U today has the second front-page story on $iena BASEBALL in a week. That's pretty good coverage for a mediocre (23-21) program in a weak league
