MLAX: vs. Syracuse (Alumni Event in Syr)

Recommended Posts

Face-offs 13-2 Cuse.

Shots 21-18 UA, but about 5 on one man-up that didn't result in a goal.

Good UA crowd, but no Bob sightings...

Didn't Bob say earlier that work would prohibit him from attending?

He did, but that doesn't stop this Danes fan from hoping for the best!

There are injuries at the faceoff position.

What is it 2-30 on faceoffs? We'd never beat anyone with that stat.

Well, maybe Lowell.

The faceoff situation got so bad that the rather large UA contingent gave a mock cheer very late in the game when UAlbany won what was likely their first faceoff of the second half... Which was likely against Syracuse's third team face-off specialist.

Not sure if relationship holds true; but mathematically we got 12 goals while winning only 15% of face offs. If we had won just 30% (which is considered pretty BAD) we would have gotten 24 goals. Using the same math, su got 17 goals while winning 85% of the face offs; and if {the big IF} we could have kept them @ 70% they would have gotten only 14 goals. We win 24-14.

Anyhow, my point if Connor Russell had not torn his ACL [for those who did not know and I assume lost for the season]; I believe he would have contributed enough face off wins {at least a few more than 5 of 33}, that we win this game.

Also, not to kick a dead horse, but we had 6 face-off violations, but I am pretty sure we only won twice while in violation. Now, I do not understand and never have understood face off rules; but you would think if we left or moved early it would enable us to at least literally have the ball?

On tv, they zoomed in on most of the face offs and the su player flicks his stick 90º and covers the ball on nearly every face off. He did it incredibly fast and is obviously one of the best in the country. I am wondering, if like in baseball where the great pitchers seem to get the benefit of the corners on strike calls, if some of this was going on yesterday? Was he really all that fast or due to his reputation was he getting a little bit of help with his quickness? Or may be our guys were just that bad?
