Football Transfers- Green/Gold to Purple/Gold

I would assume since $iena is discontinuing it's program these guys don't have to sit out a year. Looks like Nutter could have the fastest impact as he's had some playing time. It's too bad they cancelled their program because it looks like Bateman brought in a pretty good class last year.

Sheehan, Mark FR 6-1/245 DE Waterford, N.Y

Stern, Steve SO 6-0/215 LB Cortland Manor/Walter Panas

Genovesi, Tom FR 6-1/225 LB East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia

Brian Nutter, 6-1 230 LB

Here's a description of Nutter from the Siena media guide and a picture of the man in action:

Fierce competitor who loves to hit…Great reactions and deceptive speed are chief attributes…Has shown steady improvement since his arrival on campus and appears poised for a breakout season in the talented secondary…Experience coupled with natural talent has coaching staff excited for his contributions this season.

As a sophomore…Collected 48 tackles while starting all 10 games…Ended second on squad in interceptions (2) and third in pass break-ups (4)…Four of his stops were behind the line of scrimmage and 26 of the 48 were solo tackles…Made eight stops and picked off a pass in Saint Peter’s loss (10/5)…Logged season-best 10-tackle performance in Sacred Heart setback (11/9)…Opened year with solid effort at Iona (9/7), recording seven tackles and a pass break-up.

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL… A three-year letterwinner at Sachem on Long Island where he was named First Team All-State and First Team Long Island as a senior linebacker…Was selected to play in the Governors Cup game—an annual contest featuring the best players in the State…An accounting major at Siena…Sister Christina attends St. Josephs…The son of William and Sharon Nutter.

Not sure why...usually transfers are not "recruits", maybe thats why.

DP- I actually think Genovessi is going to be the best of the bunch. HE was tremendous in High School...and was going to play a ton before he busted up his leg (knee maybe?) I am confused about NUTTER. They list him as an LB...but the post you put up mentions him as being in the secondary. If he really is in the secondary...he will be K. Campbells replacement at rover or safety (6'1 225----is a big boy at both those positions).

My mistake. They list him on a safety on the $iena site.

Genovessi was a medical redshirt last year so we should have him for four years. Part of a pretty nice class. That Record article is from a while ago, we'll have to wait for the official announcement but maybe there are more guys transferring.
