OT: RMU FOOTBALL

RMU is looking to make a move (long rumored) out of the NEC.  Targets and target of both the Horizon League and the MAAC.  Based on what was done with Monmouth, I can't see the NEC allowing BOBBY MO to stay as an affiliate member.  

Options:

1. Full Scholarship Big South.  Would have the second worst facilities and travel costs;

2. MEAC- If the MEAC regains their football playoff spot, this could be an option.

3. MFVC or OVC- Not happening, they don't have the funds to handle a full jump to either conference and be anywhere near competitive.

4. Drop the program.  Lot's of budget cuts will happen in ADepts.  They have hockey, and that's expensive.  Problem is they have the NCAA minimum of 6 men's teams right now...so they'd have to add another, less expensive male sport.  

Tough situation for our former Dane Coaching staff.

They just announced $3 million in staff/budget cuts at RMU. The Horizon is a better fit geographically, but nearly all other schools are much larger other than Detroit Mercy.  The MAAC would be a decent choice....if RMU was in Philly. It would be an endless road trip. They do not have a big endowment, so probably not a big line of deep pocket donors. Should they go either of the mentioned routes, affiliate status for football in the NEC might be the ticket. Youngstown St is in the Horizon and plays FB in the MVC. 

 

Just in general, I think the 2020 apocalypse of covid, lockdown and civic unrest is going to have long reaching economic consequences in all areas of life. Priorities will be shifting, traditions will get shelved in response to economic necessities. We are really living in uncertain times right now and I’d be willing to bet that D1 football at a 5,000 student private college is not even close to their primary concern. But yes, it’s a tough situation for our UA coaching transplants.

They already played Buffalo last year and Liberty a couple of years ago, so maybe they have enough aid packages to be counters.
