  1. Someone said to me at the end of regulation that Jamar has to take that shot and not hope for the bailout. I agree the refs are really unlikely to end it on a foul call like that. None of that explains what happened in the first half. I give credit to Siena who played with a ton of heart and purpose but we went on a 7 minute drought. I really should have expected the day was going to go to hell before it started. I bought my overpriced beer and turned to get hit in the elbow by the Saint mascot. Seems funny now that there were some Siena fans who wanted to see this game cancelled after McClinton transferred.
  2. That Simpsons site is hillarious. I want to welcome Steve to the board also. I'm glad you found us and thanks to GDG for spreading the word.
  3. Ball for One-TU Iati shouldering the load for Danes: Since returning from injury sophomore guard has been UAlbany's best player-Troy Record Jordan's slump baffling-TU
  4. I guess after complaining about my seats at the Pepsi for two years AND the tourney in Bing I have a reputation to uphold. I have to say I'm happy with the seats. Thanks to Alumni92 for letting us buy into his group we're assured a bunch of Albany fans will be sitting together. I think we're close to the student section also which always makes it more fun.
  5. Just curious where everyone is sitting tomorrow and if many people bought through the UA boxoffice. We were stuck upstairs last year when buying them through Albany. This year we are in 108.
  6. For what it's worth Pomeroy has the Danes as six point dogs tomorrow. I would hope attendance will be up. Much better date than last year and both teams have legitimate reasons to think their teams can win tomorrow. Caught the Siena game last night with Holy Cross. Really no surprise they're winning those games. Well-coached team and more talent than they were given credit for before the season. No matter what happens tomorrow they made a good hire.
  7. Great point about all teams having insufferable fans. I have a hard time imagining any of us who've been through the down years becoming that insufferable but I'm sure it's possible. I hope our program gets to a point where we find out. I honestly was amazed at the profound arrogance of Siena's alumni after we went to Divison I. I think that contributed to my acrimonious feelings towards them more than any history from the 70s or "State School" chant every could. I think many of them truly believed in that first meeting that they were going to beat us by 40 or 50 points and that we might never become competitive with them. I'm not talking about the people on the Siena board by the way, these were actually people I'm neighbors with, am (gulp) related to, and work with. They practically threw a party when E.J. Gallup transferred to Coastal Carolina. They thought hiring Will Brown was the funniest thing ever because he was a "Rosie" in their terms (coached at St. Rose-"not a DI guy" they told me). I think last year changed a lot and brought some new respect for Brown and UA. There is no possible way I could root for them but I do follow what they're doing. Mainly because I know some people who are local college basketball fans (not alums of either school) who follow both teams and enjoy talking basketball with them.
  8. If I'm remembering correctly Army is picked to finish second in the Patriot League so this was a tough game on the road. I was happy to hear Tanika Thrower was back last night. Playing with a mask she had 26 points off the bench last night. I was also enjoyed hearing the WCDB guys start using the phrase "nothing but cotton." Pretty catchy.
  9. Good story on the Jon Iati show at Pauley Pavillion. Danes guard hit at UCLA-TU
  10. Danes give UCLA fight-TU Mixed match for freshman-Daily Bruin Farmar watches as Bruins prevail-Long Beach Press and Telegraph
  11. Sounded to me like they did what Brown was stressing before the game. Be more patient on offense and having Jamar not try to take over the game too soon. Seemed like he let the game come to him more and then tried to take over in crunch time. Iati was just freaky-really wished I could have seen him play tonight. He'll have to do it again at home sometime. Covington seemed to pitch in and give some good minutes when they needed him.
  12. Couldn't believe Sterling's ridiculous rebounding numbers at the St. Bonaventure tournament until I saw her play. She probably will have her freshman ups and downs but she is quite a player and may have taken a step toward ending the "can Patterson recruit?" debate. Speaking of recuriting here's a blurb on Charity Iromuanya from last year. For what it's worth they had her rated the #4 recuit in the state. 4. Charity Iromuanya, "Has had a great summer playing for Judds Brothers Select. She is an incredible athlete with long arms and a ton of potential. Maybe the state's best defensive player."
  13. I agree with you Reeder about Lucious role to some degree. His role has changed but there seems to be something else going on there also. I can only guess it's the ankle problem from the preseason but he isn't the same player as last year. If it is a physical problem I'd rather see him sit out a few games and get back to 100% then keep playing hurt (if that's whats happening). I have my doubts about Jamar's health also. Maybe it's just concidence but he's had two sub-par games (for his standards) since the injury at Florida. Then again I could be paranoid.
  14. Good story in today's TU about McElroy. McElroy still uses lessons learned at UCLA-TU
  15. Agree with you about James Statefan. She also seemed more willing to drive to the basket than I recall her doing in the past. This team should have three players (Mikus, James and Thrower) who can handle pretty well when Thrower comes back. Some of it probably was the level of competition but they played with more poise than I would have expected from a team this young.
  16. Danes lose by 27-TU Aztecs set record with lopsided win-San Diego Union Tribune
  17. That was a butt-kickingand a half. Squandered a very good effort by Zoellner who had a double-double. Maybe the first of his career. Jamar didn't seem like himself to me-wonder if that injury is still bothering him.
  18. I couldn't find the story online today but today's TU says that he has a jammed jaw and won't be able to eat solid food for a week. He can play with a mouthpiece but it sounds like it bothers his breathing. Not the kind of problem you want going against Marcus Slaughter. Hate to bring up Sacred Heart again but they lost last night in a tough game (75-72)to Harvard. Harvard was picked second in the Ivy, is undefeated and unless it was a missprint is getting some votes in the top 25(?). That should be a heck of a game when they come to town and yet another difficult game on the schedule.
  19. Lesson learned looms for Aztecs-San Diego Tribune
  20. Granted I haven't seen them play but if they are as quick as they sound then the press would make sense. You'd want to get your opponent in to the running game if that's your strength. Sounds like an interesting team, I'll be curious to get my first look at them. I hope Thrower is OK and this doesn't affect her national anthem singing. I heard someone else got hurt during that game, not sure who. Just curious why Tanacan didn't get more minutes, seemed like she was productive when she was on the floor.
  21. Curious to hear anyone's thoughts who was at the game last night. I had pretty low expectations for an Albany team starting two freshman and two sophs against a veteran Siena team that will probably finish in the top three in the MAAC. From the sounds of things they played better than I expected. Looks like Tanacan came around with 8 points and 4 rebounds in 16 mnutes. Really like that it's 8 or 9 players chipping in with contributions this year.
  22. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
  23. Clark is still on campus, I saw her chatting with Todd Cetnar the other night. I presumed she would return next year if healthy but you're right that would be 14 scholarship players next year. Are there different scholarship rules for the women?
  24. The crowd seemed into for a few minutes during the first half and at the end of the game. It has seemed to me that when we've had larger crowds most of the newcomers are more curious than fans. They really don't want to get involved and more often than not just sit there. I think that's what GDG alluded to in his post-more people didn't necessarily add more noise. Playing better certainly would have helped though. One thing I noticed last night that also happened a few times last year. When Jamar comes out of the game the team left on the floor looks like it goes into panic mode. They take a lot of bad shots and don't look cohesive at all. I understand that he's a terrific player but there are still a lot of offensive weapons on the floor when he goes out. I'll be interested to see how Lillis fits in with this team when he's 100%. He only played 6 minutes last night and probably made the best 3 or 4 entry passes of the night for us. He threw a terrific pass to Zoellner under the hoop. Sacred Heart really put on a clinic on creative ways to feed the post and other than Lillis I don't know that we have that part of the game down yet. One thing Brown mentioned post-game was the lack of energy. On my way to the RACC I actually thought this team might come out TOO fired up for the home opener. I was really surprised and the lack of emotion early on. I almost suspected 5 minutes in or so that Brown might do one of Coach K's sub the whole starting 5 out for guys on the bench. As they're killing us on the AE board for last night's loss it's probably good to remember that Vermont through in an early season loss to American last year. People were all over them too. That seemed to wake them up and hopefully that's was last nights game does as well.
