  1. Bauman's team won also last night in the playoffs. He hit the go ahead basket with 3 seconds left and finished with 22 points.
  2. If you read both the men's and the women's stories you'll find the end of regulation oddly similar. Danes lack bite in clutch -TU. SBU's Win Streak Ends-Newsday
  3. That was horrible. I really can't even get beyond the technical called on Brown in OT. I know it's unseemly to complain about the officiating but Marachak argued every freakin call and then Brown gets a T for nothing. I could not believe it.
  4. Lady Danes beat the Brook tonight in overtime (fitting). Northeastern lost their game to Bing so for the Danes are all alone in fifth. Teriffic win as Stony Brook has been really hot lately.
  5. Hey at least you got one vote and most people haven't even heard you. Actually I thought the cheerleader did a pretty good job a couple of games ago althought I haven't seen him do it since then.
  6. Welcome to the board. I'm glad you found us! If you have any questions or problems feel free to email me at danefan1@localnet.com. I look forward to seeing you post and hope you enjoy the board. DP
  7. I probably should have polled this awhile ago. I admit I really got used to and enjoyed the Earthtones version of the Anthem the last few years. I'm pretty sure they're still around as there in a acapella fest upcoming on campus. There's also a female version of the Earthtones involved but I don't remember what they're called.
  8. That's too bad. Coppenrath is really good for the conference. Hopefully he can come back in time for the tourney.
  9. The University is expected to announce a new interim president tomorrow according to a story in the Times Union. The last I saw Santiago was a finalist for a position in Wisconsin. Didn't hear that he got it but he must have. Seems kind of funny to go outside the campus to get an interim president. Don't they usually pick someone already here? Anyway, Ryan is a retired Vice Admiral, photo below.
  10. From the UA site: GREAT DANES PICKED SECOND IN AMERICA EAST MEN'S LACROSSE PRESEASON POLL Boston, Mass. -- America East newcomer University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is the preseason favorite to win the men's lacrosse conference title this year, according to a vote of the head coaches on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The Retrievers received five of a possible seven first-place votes and 47 points overall to outdistance defending champion University at Albany, which had two first-place votes and 42 points. University of Vermont (31 points) was chosen third, followed by Stony Brook University (28). Quinnipiac University (22), Binghamton University (15) and University of Hartford (11) rounded out the poll. The top four teams in the conference will advance to the America East Championship with the winner of the tournament receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship. UMBC, which joined America East in 22 sports last fall, was 7-6 last season, with wins over nationally-ranked North Carolina and Towson. Senior midfielder Franklin Berry has increased his point total each year, scoring 12 goals and adding five assists last season. Sophomore Andy Gallagher had 21 points in his first four collegiate games before suffering a torn ACL. He is expected to be at full strength this season. Classmate Brendan Mundorf had 22 goals last season, the fourth best total in UMBC's Division I history. Head coach Don Zimmerman may utilize a 1-2 punch in goal with juniors Kevin Cepelak and Rick Metcalf. Albany (10-6 overall, 4-1 in America East) completed its second year in America East with its first conference title. The Great Danes dropped a 16-10 decision at Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Championship. Junior attackman Luke Daquino returns after earning America East Player of the Year honors in 2003 when he scored 22 goals with 35 assists for 57 points in 16 games. He ranked No. 7 in the nation in assists per game (2.19) and No. 15 in points per game (3.56). Senior attackman Michael Solazzo had 32 goals and seven assists for 39 points in 15 games a season ago. Junior midfielder Brendan Russell was a first-team all-conference choice last season. Junior Kevin Rae (9-6, 10.03, .554), the Most Outstanding Player of the 2003 America East Championship, returns in goal for coach Scott Marr. Vermont (5-8, 2-3) returned to the America East Championship, thanks in large part to junior Mike Gabel, who posted a 6.13 goals against average (second in the nation) and a .665 save percentage, which led the nation. The Catamounts led the nation in man-down defense (.867) and were second in scoring defense (6.31). Sophomore attackman Mike Maher (14 goals, 13 assists in 13 games) enjoyed a solid rookie season, earning first-team all-conference honors. Senior Garnet Smith was a second-team all-conference defender a season ago for coach Steve Beville. Stony Brook (5-10, 3-2) advanced to the America East Championship game for the second time in as many seasons, after winning the title in 2002. Junior Kyle Pearl, a first-team all-conference choice, ranks among the top defenders in the conference. Pearl was third in the nation with 7.07 ground balls per game last year. Sophomore Jason Cappadoro ranked third in the conference in scoring with 26 goals and 17 assists for 43 points in 15 games. Senior Eric Hatkewitz was a second-team all-conference defender last year for coach John Espey. Binghamton (4-8, 1-4) made drastic improvements last season, just the Bearcats second as a program. Coach Ed Stephenson, a former All-American at Towson, had 23 freshmen on his roster a season ago, including second-team all-conference attackman Phil Cavallo, who was No. 6 in America East scoring with 27 goals and three assists for 30 points in 12 games. Classmate Kevin McKeown ranked 16th in the nation in goals against average (8.21) and 11th in save percentage (.607). Quinnipiac (3-10, 1-4) missed the America East Championship after qualifying in its first season in the conference in 2002. Sophomore midfielder Josh Murray was a second-team all-conference choice for coach Eric Fekete last year. Hartford (4-1, 9-8) lost four all-conference choices to graduation, but midfielder Garett Kikot, the America East Rookie of the Year, returns for first-year coach Andy Towers. The America East Championship will be held May 5 and 8 with the semifinals slated for the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds and the championship game to be played at the higher remaining seed.
  11. I expected alot more from Martin this year also. I have to say if we had a full roster (which we've never had) he would certainly have been redshirted and had a year to develop. Seems like a curious situation because I imagine a guy with his size would have played power forward or center in high school yet he's been described as a wing I guess because he has some permimter skills. It's readily apparent that he can't guard the small forward spot and isn't strong enough this year to play underneath. I'm really not rooting for anyone to transfer, just get better. I'd like to see Martin get stronger in the offseason and develop into a role player in the future.
  12. From the AE site: FIELD GOAL PCT (Min. 5.0 made per game) ## Player-Team G FG FGA Pct ------------------------------------------------- 1.Taylor Coppenrath-VERMONT 13 112 205 .546 2.Nick Billings-BINGHAMT... 14 74 143 .517 3.T.J. Sorrentine-VERMONT.. 13 72 164 .439 4.Jose Juan Barea-NORTHEAS. 14 110 266 .414 5.Jon Iati-ALBANY.......... 14 74 211 .351 I have to admit I do agree with you Scott about one thing-Iati's shorts are way too long.
  13. everyone else loses also. Now a four-way tie for fifth with the Brook, UNH and Northeastern. Big game Weds against the Brook would put us above the pack and give us the tiebreaker as we already beat them at home.
  14. Danes' offense is lost in loss-TU.
  15. As many of you who still live in the capital district probably know there was a shooting at Columbia High School last week. Luckily no one was seriously injured as the shooter missed two students and was then tackled by vice principal John Sawchuk. I was surprised to read in today's TU that Sawchuk is a former Danes football player. From the story he played defense (of course-good tackler) in the early 80's. A little before my time but I was curious if any of you guys remember him. Here's a couple of the stories: Story on the event from MSNBC. Story from the TU about Sawchuk's football days at Schenectady and UA.
  16. Professor why are you so obssesed with people transferring? The Scott Beeten days are hopefully over. Let's just have a full roster for once and then worry about if people are unhappy with diminished minutes. Guys are going to have a lot easier time accepting less minutes if we get some W's next year.
  17. I'd love to see that too Reeder but I don't think it will happen. That game draws 12K every year at the Pepsi and you can't squeeze more than 5K in to the RACC. Too much money to lose with playing the game uptown and I really think that's $iena's incentive to play us. I'd be happy to hear "Purple Haze" replacing "We love our $aints" down at the Pepsi after a Danes victory.
  18. Tough game today against Maine but you're right they're tied for 5th right now and would avoid the P.I.G. were the season to end. Kind of disappointed in the way the women's tourney is scheduled-It starts during the week. I'm not sure why they did it that way. Women's program has certainly made some strides this year. Twice they've had the "programs biggest win," over FIU and then beating Hartford on the road.
  19. Story in the Reading (UK) paper about Cetnar's award. Cetnar aims to mark Tigers’ award in style-Reading Evening Post.
  20. There's been alot of MAAC games on MSG lately and I've been watching them. Haven't seen Fairfield's place but they have some pretty awful gyms in the MAAC. Seen Manhattan's, Rider's and Marist's and they are pretty similar to UNH's which has been the worst in the AE in my travels. I agree with Reeder that the RACC isn't bad although I'd like to see the name changed. There must be a dozen RACs or RACCs in college basketball including UMBC in our own conference.
  21. Just to follow up. I sent my evaluation back with some comments including those about the band which I didn't think added much to the feast. Got an email back this morning and apparently the majority of people felt the same way.
  22. -I know several of us were curious about how the game ended. I would expect that in a home game the visiting team can't be liable for what the announcer says if they mistake who the foul was on. I guess the official makes the determination and the Bing coaches weren't paying attention. -Saw Ayers limp a bit last night and assumed it was her feet. Story in the TU says she turned her ankle as did Sweetland. -Second straight win over a team higher in the AE standings and good enough for a tie for 5th.
  23. Danes are forward rolled-TU. Bearcats handle struggling Albany-Press+Sun. UAlbany women prevail in OT-TU. BU women fall in overtime-Press+Sun.
  24. Is anyone going to Binghamton tonight? I was thinking of heading down but don't think I'll be able to get out early enough. Curious about what Bing's new little stadium is like and how the hot dogs are.
