  1. It's Liberty's Williams Stadium. I picked it because it has turf as our future stadium is supposed to. ESPN has fantasy football..I figured why not fantasy stadium. While I was at it I put us in the A10. Hopefully the real one isn't too far away.
  2. Missed this story in the Troy Record yesterday. Statefan had mentioned Daquino was injured in the Stony Brook game. Sounds like it was pretty bad and he was a game time decision. In any event it's great to see the coverage.
  3. The night games at the football field were a good idea and so is this. Sets up for a pretty good Saturday with the baseball home opener at noon and the lacrosse game at 1.
  4. Didn't realize WCDB was covering that game. Really fun atmosphere last night. I don't know much about lacrosse but have a good time watching it. The way the scheduling has gone this year it's much easier to catch a few games. Rae was terrific especially late in the game. A couple of times in the fourth Yale had some point-blank looks that he stopped cold.
  5. Sorry Old Dog! As you may have guessed it's automated. I should have taken that word out a long time ago considering our outgoing presidents last name. I expect next years tourney to be alot better. For fans in general and hopefully especially for Albany fans. Looking forward to a much better atmosphere with people and students actually going out to games. Should the Danes improve as we expect the University should make an effort to get some students down to Bing. Having the Bing Zoo and the Albany students in the same building would make for a fun environment. TU story about the tourney. Tourney story from Bing Paper.
  6. Channel 6 reported last night that former Danes baseball players Mike Grasso and Steve Checksfield were released by thier MLB teams. I couldn't find anything about it online but I'm pretty sure Grasso was with the Braves minor league team and Checksfield was still with the Astros. Checksfield is going to play with the New Jersey Jackals and I think Grasso is going to play somewhere in Maine with and independent league.
  7. Kate Fontana was named rookie of the week in women's lacrosse. Merrick Thompson was rookie of the week in men's lacrosse and Andee Lingren was named player of the week in softball. ANDEE LINDGREN NAMED AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK Boston, Mass. – University at Albany’s Andee Lindgren has been selected as the America East Conference Player of the Week in softball as announced on Monday, April 12 by the conference office. Lindgren, a senior from La Habra, Calif., leads UAlbany in both pitching and hitting with a 1.23 ERA and .414 batting average, respectively. She owns a 10-2 record in 15 appearances this season on the mound, plus has hurled 10 complete games and one shutout. Lindgren, who earned America East pitcher of the week honors on March 23, has allowed only 15 earned runs this year and has amassed 96 strikeouts. The reigning America East Pitcher of the Year leads her team in hits (36), doubles (9) and RBI (17), plus has two homers on the season. Lindgren, a left-handed hurler, picked up three conference wins last week on the mound, allowing a total of only three earned runs on 18 hits with eight walks and 30 strikeouts in 20.0 innings of work. She matched a season-high with 12 strikeouts in her team’s league-opening 7-1 victory against UMBC on April 5. Lindgren went 13-for-20 at the plate with a .650 average for the week. She drove in 10 runs with two doubles and two home runs. Albany (18-13, AE 4-1) hosts conference-foe Vermont on April 14 in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. MERRICK THOMSON NAMED AMERICA EAST MEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Boston, Mass. – Freshman attacker Merrick Thomson has been selected the America East Conference Rookie of the Week in men’s lacrosse as announced by the conference office on Monday, April 12. Thomson earned the weekly award for the second time this season. Thomson scored four goals, two in each half, in last Saturday’s 16-7 conference victory over Stony Brook. His low bounce shot, off a crossing pass, with 2:59 left in the second quarter gave his team an 8-5 halftime lead. He has scored four or more points in five consecutive games, and is averaging 5.2 points in that span. Thomson, who ranks among the top-10 nationally in goals and points, leads the conference in scoring with 25 goals and seven assists for 32 points. Albany (5-3, AE 2-1) meets Ivy League-foe Yale at UAlbany’s University Field (football stadium) on Wednesday, April 14 under the lights at 7:00 p.m. KATE FONTANA SHARES AMERICA EAST'S WEEKLY WOMEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE AWARD Boston, Mass. -- University at Albany’s Kate Fontana has been chosen America East Conference Rookie of the Week in women’s lacrosse as announced on Monday, April 12 by the conference office. She received the weekly honor for the second time this spring. Fontana, a freshman midfielder from East Syracuse, N.Y., matched a season-high with six points on three goals and three assists in last Friday’s 20-14 victory over league-rival Binghamton. She added season-bests in draw controls (8) and caused turnovers (7), plus had six ground balls. Fontana, who has registered three or more points in seven consecutive games, also had two goals and one assist in a 10-7 loss to Holy Cross on April 7. Fontana is seventh among the America East scoring leaders with 29 points (21 goals, 8 assists). She leads the conference in ground balls with a 4.5 average, and is also first in caused turnovers at 2.4 per game.
  8. Congrats to Dan Schoonmaker who was AE baseball's Player of the Week. He's hit a homerun in each of his last five games. Schoonmaker, Monds, Hitch###### Receive Baseball Honors Albany’s Dan Schoonmaker (High Falls, N.Y./Rondout Valley HS/Ulster County CC) has been named America East's Baseball Player of the Week, while Devin Monds (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean) of Northeastern and Brendon Hitch###### (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) of Binghamton received Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors respectively. The awards were announced on Monday (April 12). Schoonmaker went 11-for-20 this week, with five home runs and 15 RBI. He drove in 10 runs, including a grandslam and a three-run homer in the Great Danes’ doubleheader sweep of Canisius. The senior first/third baseman is batting .398 on the year with a league-leading seven home runs.
  9. I was surprised when Patterson said it because I didn't think there was a scholarship available. 4 players coming in plus 9 reurning=13 Scholarships. Maybe someone's transferrring? I didn't think Scipione had an athletic scholarship anyway. Maybe that's how she's bringing in another player as a pseudo walk-on. Jen Schumacher Becky Ayers Stacy Johnson Danielle Hutcheson Alicia Learn Tanya James Lyndsay Clark Maree Jones Sharon Majors
  10. As I read the story I was thinking the same thing as 2K3. Guess you have to assume if the staff has seen enough of Mikus to sign her they have probably seen Hall as well. Two guards in the incoming class and I'm pretty sure Patterson said at the luncheon that she has another scholarship to give for next year. Hopefully another big person.
  11. You got it. Let me know if you are coming up at all this year and I will get it to you. If not I'll mail it you. I can imagine you wearing it in Georgia and people asking you "what's a Siena?" Hewitt did a great job to get his team that far but you're right, UConn has two guys who'll be in the NBA next year. Lucky for me they won it all because the rest of my picks stunk.
  12. GD84, Some of the stuff like bench press info is in the pre-draft interview. I hate to be obvious but I imagine if you talked to Jones he could tell you he's been in contact with. Ford also. He's coached for over 30 years and has contacts in the NFL and Europe. He's also had former players go to the Arena League as well as NFL camps so I'm sure he'd be able to help with info. Good luck with the story and send us a link when you write it.
  13. Good story on Sherri Mikus and her teamate CeCe Hall in her hometown paper. They were named Co-players of the year and Hall has lived with Mikus and her family for the past two years.
  14. We'll probably have to look closely and carefully at the ESPN ticker on draft weekend because there's another Gary Jones in the draft. The other one is a DB from Texas A+M. Reeder posted some links and an interview with Jones a while ago. I don't think he was invited to the combines. He's still listed on one site as the top small school prospect and is the 20th running back on one site and 28th on another. There's also a discussion about him on NFL Blitz. NFL Blitz-Jones Fantasy GM Draft. Football.com Rankings. Football.com Small School Rankings.
  15. Assuming Iati actually gets a chance to take a rest next year it will be interesting who gets those minutes as backup PG. I don't know how Lillis fits into the picture at PG but I imagine it will be between Johnson and Bauman. Bauman who can handle and shoot and Johnson who can handle and defend. Hopefully Courtney will spend alot of time in the gym shooting 3's with Iati this summer-maybe something will wear off on him. During the GT-Uconn game Tech's guards were getting into the lane at will. Calhoun brought a guard in (I can't remember his name) specifically to shut them down which he did. Great to have a guy like that on the bench-that's more or less how I see Johnson's role next year.
  16. Really wasn't being criticial of Bauman. Just curious because next years other 3 recruits have made all-state teams and we don't spend much time talking about Bauman. He sounds like a player similar to Mike Beers of $iena.
  17. Mainejeff dug this up and posted it on the AE Board. List of potential at-large bid teams for the NCAA baseball tournament. Pretty amazing turnaround from the struggles of the last few years to be talked about as an at-large team. Changes in Fortunes-Boydsworld.
  18. Congratulations to Reeder for your winning bracket in the BPF/America East challenge. You and I were the only ones who picked UConn. As promised you get an anti-$iena button for your prognostication. Let me know if you want the "Beat $iena" or "$iena $tinks" one.
  19. The Pittsburgh Tribune announced their all-area teams the other day. I was surprised to see that Bauman didn't make any of the teams. Pretty sure he was first team last year. Pittsburgh Tribune.
  20. You are a true road dog Alumni92. It's probably small consolation but the Danes power numbers rose with the loss. In the computer rankings they jumped over UMBC and are now #18.
  21. Blurb in the TU the other day about where HVCC players were going. Mike St. Fleur a 5'11" 205 outside linebacker has commited to the Danes. He had 26 tackles and 3 sacks last year. QB Ryan Gribulis who we had talked about maybe coming to UA before announced he is going to American International.
  22. I got a postcard the other day from the University for the Spring Stomp on May 1. Sounds like a spring homecoming-type event between women's softball games and before the men's lacrosse game at 7pm. Seems like a good idea and a new one to me.
  23. BingU beat Stony Brook yesterday so it looks like everyone is stepping up in the conference. The win yesterday really sets UMBC for home field advanatage through the playoffs. Should be a war if these these two teams meet up in May.
  24. Looks like it's Dyson to me. Wearing a Sanford uniform and about to be double teamed as soon as he catches the pass...
  25. I'm sure you're right I was just surprised because I've heard about Monahan for so long. There were even rumors on the $iena board that we were looking at him. I'm sure since I'm questioning Duell's abilities he'll become an all-conference performer in the AE.
