  1. You're right of course. I was glad they hyped next year's team a bit to the students. I also liked the part about Gary Jones-"P.S: If you don't know who Gary Jones is by now, we thank you for reading the Albany Student Press despite being a Siena student."
  2. There are a couple of stories about the men's and women's team in the most recent edition of the Albany Student Press. I'm posting these because they meniton the potenial of next years team. I'm glad the students are paying attention and hopefully they come out for the games. Big Purple Growl-The Asp. Dane of the Week-The ASP.
  3. Story about EJ Gallup and his decision to transfer. According to the story someone from Siena was involved in his going to Coastal-We should have none. Gallup Article.
  4. Will Brown was quoted in a factually challanged NY Post article.
  5. UAlbany throws another one away -TU. Turnover prone Danes fall at BU -Troy Record. Faced with oppressive Terrier press, Albany coughs up game-Daily Free Press.
  6. Bing opened their new stadium yesterday by selling out and then selling a couple of hundred standing room only tickets for their win over Hartford. Attendece was 4660 because they don't have all the available seating open yet. I have to hand it to them with some good breaks they have made a more graceful entrance into D1 hoops than either Albany or the Brook. Good coverage and pictures by the Bing paper-They kept track of every "first" in the new place including first booing of the refs. Stevens: Keeping spiffy Center full is Walker's next challenge. Sweet start at Center for Bearcats. 'Electric' atmosphere greets Bearcats.
  7. Wanted to second Patch's welcome. If you have any questions or problems feel free to email me. Glad you found us and hope you enjoy the board.
  8. Surprising Great Dane -From TU. UAlbany no match for BU -TU
  9. Ski Windham and Hunter Mt. in the Catskills are about 90 minutes and both are pretty big. Assuming you are asking about downhill skiing and not cross-country. There are several places right in Albany where you can rent X-C skis and there are lots of good trails around with some fresh snow. Here's the I Love NY site if you need some help.
  10. Story in today's TU about Hitchcock leaving to deal with family issues. TU story on Hitchcock. Provost Carlos Santiago was named as acting President and it probably woundn't be the biggest shock in the world to see him named as President although they'll certainly do a national search. I think whoever the new president is we may be well served as Great Danes sports fans to introduce ourselves to them.
  11. I think we should replace the ECAC bowl with a bowl game against the Pioneer League. For the most part they are much more competetive than the MAAC teams have been and would be a terrific game.
  12. Nice idea. Actually the numbers the way you present them are closer than I would have thought. I doubt $iena would go for a plan like that. They really don't invest much in sports outside of hoops with the possible exception of baseball. Your plan might work better with the Brook as we seem to be pretty even with them in most sports. There is the Corning Cup right now which doesn't get much publicity. I guarantee though if the Cup comes back to the RACC one of these years it will have much more importance.
  13. Statefan you're quite welcome. This was really Macarachuk's race to lose. I should have done the Wyatt takedown poll last year when I could have voted for Justin Rowe of Maine.
  14. Does sound like a good idea and just in time for the BPG. Have to check it out tomorrow.

  16. This from the UA site. A really nice gesture. UALBANY MEN’S BASKETBALL LOCKER ROOM WILL BE DEDICATED IN STEPHEN MULDERRY’S MEMORY ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7 Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany’s Department of Athletics and Recreation will dedicate the men’s basketball locker room in the name of former captain Stephen Mulderry, who was among the missing in the World Trade Center tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001. The dedication ceremony will take place at halftime of UAlbany’s game with New Hampshire on Saturday, Feb. 7, as Director of Athletics Lee McElroy announced on Friday, Jan. 30. Mulderry, who was popular among his teammates, and affectionately known as "Zipper", was a co-captain on the 1989-90 UAlbany squad which posted a 20-9 record and reached the NCAA Division III East Regional Tournament. He averaged 11.5 points, 5.7 assists and 2.4 steals as a senior. Mulderry, a Bishop Maginn High School graduate, and two-year starter for UAlbany coach Richard "Doc" Sauers, also led the 1988-89 team to an ECAC Upstate New York championship during a 20-8 campaign. A backup guard at the scholastic level, Mulderry worked his way into the Albany starting lineup after trying out for the team as a freshman. He played on the junior varsity squad his first year, before seeing limited minutes off the bench on the varsity as a sophomore. Mulderry finished his collegiate career seventh on the school’s all-time assists list with 325, and fourth in assist average at 4.27 per game. Mulderry, who graduated with a B.S. in economics in 1990, went on to work as vice president of equity trading for Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, an employee-owned investment banking firm. His parents, William and Anne, his four brothers, Andrew, Peter, Daniel and Bill, and his three sisters, Amy, Nell and Darra, are expected to be present at the dedication. In addition, Peter Pedro, a former Albany football captain and one of the school’s career rushing leaders, and a group of Mulderry’s classmates, are raising funds to create the Stephen Mulderry Memorial Scholarship to benefit a UAlbany student-athlete who hails from the Capital Region. For more information on pledge forms or donations, interested parties can contact the Athletic Development Office, at 518-437-4416. Pledge forms will be available in the Recreation and Convocation Center's KeyBank Atrium on Feb. 7.
  17. Maybe next week we'll have a "Player you'd most like to see get taken down by Chris Wyatt during a fight for a loose ball."
  18. Nice story in the Rochester paper about Becky Ayers. Ayers Story.
  19. In the game notes for BU- Kenny Maccalla a walk-on from Middletown was added to the roster. He played for his region in the Empire State Games.
  20. Old Indian has been beating the "Albany should drop down to D2" drum for a while and it's just wishful thinking. Patch hit the nail on the head on their board when he pointed out that in the near future we will pose a threat to them and it makes them nervous. What I think most of them are figuring out it that we'll be better next year and $iena fans aren't so sure they can say the same with Miller, Andrews and Jackson graduating.
  21. Loyola beat Marist tonight. Marist 57, Loyola MD 63.
  22. Is that possible? Brown brought in five players this year (two transfers) and four players for next year. Isn't that the max? Or maybe Hughes scholarship wouldn't count since he didn't played-it would take a Philadelphia lawyer to figure it out. Should Hughes not return it would be great to see the scholie given to either Johnson or Q this year, they've both earned it.
  23. I was going to put this in my post about the game but forgot. I thought the pep band did a nice job for their first showing. It seemed like between the piped-in music for the dancers and the contests they didn't get alot of chances to play but sounded good when they did. I'd like to see them on the other side of the RACC right behind the opponents bench so they can play during their timeouts. It probably will be better when they are closer to the students. Speaking of the students I thought they showed alot of energy last night-good to see. Happy to see the flag guy is back!
  24. Danes' night bittersweet -TU Catamounts hold off Danes' comeback bid -Troy Record UVM men survive dogged effort from Albany-Burlington Free Press Vermont women overtake UAlbany-TU Cats shackle Great Danes, 51-44, stop skid -Burlington Free Press
  25. Great effort and the game turned out much better than it looked like it would be early on. Curious to see who the mystery man was on the Danes bench tonight. Felt bad for Iati tonight missing the 3 to tie. He was really working hard for his shots and looked like Reggie Miller sprinting all over the court to try and get an open look. This team is so close to pulling one of these games off, a missed box-out or phantom foul are killing us at the end. I'm not sure what Wyatt did stat-wise tonight but I enjoyed his near takedown of Klimes on the loose ball in the second half. Looked like a clean play, just agressive and seemed to fire everyone up.
