  1. Nice to start out the season getting votes. We could build on it by winning in the preseason WNIT. It would be great to get to Penn State.
  2. Oops. You're right. It's Pomeroy. I didn't expect to see Yale so high. They were better than I thought last year.
  3. Saw this on the Providence board. Sagarin ratings are out for this year. We're starting at 150. The OOC games: Providence 53 NJIT 308 Quinnipiac 131 Colgate 207 UNLV 82 Holy Cross 174 St. Francis PA 256 Bucknell 165 Siena 156 Yale 119 Fairfield 222 Niagara 263
  4. The UNH game last year was a 3 point game in the fourth quarter. If I remember correctly we fumbled a punt down 3 which was the killer in that game.
  5. I hadn't see this posted before but the women have a commitment from Amarri Trueheart. I don't know what the pep band will do with that last name but I'm sure they'll think of something.
  6. Looking at the shape of the team, practice must be brutal. Twyman and Stire out with concussions and McKay was playing with a big mask on. In hindsight, considering they practiced for three hours before the scrimmage, Singletary's shooting was even more impressive. Generally you think of a shooters legs going when he's tired, that's how Dallas looked in the second half. The lineup that popped out at me, at least early in the season, would be the four experienced players with Singletary at the point - the Rowleys, Hooley and Dallas. That leaves a lot of players that I really liked coming off the bench and not much shot blocking but a really good shooting team with scoring from all five positions.
  7. I think the Colgate fan was confused here; This quote was about UNH next week...not Colgate. And Gatusso's point makes sense. We should lose that game on paper. However, if this team plays tough, and we manage the game well at the QB position, we have a shot. I'm with you, that was about the UNH game. You can see the way Coach Gattuso is going to sell that UNH game to our guys. We have nothing to lose going up there. Really, considering how tough SBU played New Hampshire yesterday we should be encouraged.
  8. Just curious, they could review the interception in the first half when it was called an incomplete pass and they could review the touchdown at the end of the game for time but they couldn't review the Omar Osbourne "fumble." Meh. It's fun to not play particularly well and still win the game. Especially against a decent team.
  9. I'm curious about what others saw/thought about tonight. My thoughts: The returning players: Mike Rowley. His play jumped out at me. I thought something good happened just about every time he touched the ball. Passed well, defended. I was impressed. Sam Rowley. He seems to do what he wants unless you send two guys to stop him from doing it. I thought he looked to pass a lot more out of his post moves than he did last year. Dallas. The up and down game of a scrimmage probably isn't the best format for him to showcase his game. He seemed much more confident on the offensive end. Peter Hooley. Not the best showing but we know what he can do. Ede. Not among the starting five of either team. Probably a testament to the skill level of these guys. Made some terrific offensive plays. Sometimes a little lost on defense. New Guys: Ray Saunders. I loved the way he plays. I didn't think we were great defensively except for him. No offense to Peter Hooley but I thought Saunders defense really bothered him. It's no accident he and the Rowleys were on the team that won. Evan Singletary. His shooting was impressive. I didn't think he or Tre Green really played with the control we're used to seeing out of our PG. They both forced action a little but then again, they're both auditioning. Strong, smooth and a shooter. Really nice game. Richard Peters. Tried not to have too high of expectations of him. Click mentioned he missed some shots under the rim which he did. I thought he had great hands. Caught everything that came his way and grabbed some nice rebounds in traffic. Also vocal and engaged. He struggled guarding Mike Rowley but I think that's going to happen to a lot of people this year. Wheeler Baker. Like Peters, I tried not to have too high of expectations. Offensively he gets where he wants on the court. Nice drives, nice passes. Really going to enjoy watching him develop. Looked like a freshman on defense sometimes but that will pass. Tre Green. Similar skill set to Singletary. I thought he made a few more bad decisions that Singletary but was really solid. Geremy McKay. Quiet game offensively. He had some tough matchups with the Rowleys. For a freshman he was really vocal on defense. Mike Wells. Tough spot for him to find minutes, coming off the bench of the Gold team. Not a lot of opportunity for him to show what he could do. Reese Williams came off the bench of the Gold team also. Max Twyman and Stire didn't play. Stire is supposed to be cleared for practice next week. Didn't hear anything about Twyman.
  10. I don't mind it for myself. I just envision the casual fans leaving at halftime when it starts getting colder. Of course, this could be a ploy to sell more warm Danes merchandise and hot chocolate at the game.
  11. Not much longer to wait. P+G scrimmage is tomorrow night.
  12. So the alumni association is chartering a game plane to this one? This game should be a nice test for us.
  13. Forecast looking better for tomorrow - 60s. The 3:30 PM start times are good for September and October but as we get into November I'd like to see them go to the 1 PM starts again. The Colgate message board.
  14. I think I've read different things that have picked us, Hartford and SBU. No matter which one you pick, all of those teams have question marks. Nobody looks as stacked as last year's Vermont team did going into the preseason. As for us, this is the first time in four years that we've returned our leading scorer. I'm pretty optimistic.
  15. For his first start, Mooney played pretty well at Yale. Hopefully his second outing isn't such a good showing.
  16. Bing third? Huh. A lot of optimism in Vestal this fall.
  17. The Delaware loss is OK with me. I think we have a puncher's chance in that game.
  18. And a road win over the defending conference champs. Fun fact: we have not been outscored by an opponent in the fourth quarter this year. "We are going to win games in the forth quarter on toughness and guts." Colgate is down a touchdown to Yale in the fourth. I hope they come back. If they do, they'll be tied for first in the Patriot League and it will add a little spice to our game next week.
  19. Didn't like the timeout on that drive. Seemed like we were clicking a little and the Maine defense regrouped during the timeout. Thought we might string together one solid drive.
  20. Up 3 at the half and it feels like we're down 10. We can't be that bad on offense again the second half can we? Also, Maine hasn't rushed for 100 yards in a game for over a month. They had 99 yards in the first half today.
  21. Their offense has been marginally better since making a QB switch a couple of weeks ago. As you said their schedule works out pretty well for them also. Of their 8 CAA games, they play 6 of the teams in the bottom half of the conference standings including the three winless teams - Towson, URI and Elon. Compared to our schedule, we play 6 of the teams in the top half of the conference including all three teams that are undefeated - Villanova, Delaware and UNH and only one of the winless teams - URI. Those are the breaks.
  22. From what we've heard so far it sounds like the PG choices are Green and Evan Singletary. No mention of the freshman in the mix at this point. CB talks about Singletary being more of a point and Green being more of a combo guard. Singletary's JUCO numbers are pretty nice - shot over 80% from the free throw line, 40% from three and averaged over 5 assists a game with a 3 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. Pretty much all the numbers you want a PG to have. In the preseason Top 25 our first opponent, Providence, is not ranked but getting some votes. Also, on ESPN's "secret scrimmage" list we are scrimmaging Iona and Marist. Four MAAC teams on the schedule and two more to scrimmage. That's a lot of MAAC for one year.
  23. Good story in the Troy Record about Richard Peters road to Albany.
