  1. Just spent 30 minutes on my treadmill (need to do it more frequently) and watched the And1 show - they played in Miami, Orlando and Tampa and Earv was on fire. Not sure how many points he had, but he made a lot of baskets - didn't shoot like the guy that made just 56 baskets his entire senior year shooting 34%. Yes, I know it's a different kind of game.
  2. This is a quote from Campbell about that fan support For perspective 15k is more fans than will see UA at University Field for an entire season.
  3. According to fox 23 - 1 year contract extension thru March 2007. No dollars mentioned.
  4. Nostalgia aside, 1. I thought Hall was injured and would not be ready to play this year 2. Is the $3 million an endowment? or is it an annual amount for a football budget? Doing rough calculations scholarships alone would be in the $1.5 to $1.8 million range. 3. Did Geir talk about the Bills and how that was going? 4. They will need to make a plan for the next few years as the NEC contract ends in the next couple of years and there isn't a 1AA conference available for affiliation right now.
  5. Good Post. I was in Vegas last month at a conference playing Texas Hold-em after some of the sessions. Anyway, I was wearing an Albany Polo shirt - as it turns out two of the players (there are 10) at the table had gone to UA. One asked if I knew Tom Jacobs - I said that he was a very good football player in the early 80's when I was at UA but that I hadn't seen him in about 20 years (I think he works with him now. The bad news is that I was killing the table and they got me distracted - I lost a boatload of cash in the next few hands. Also, I was in the Delta crown room at one of the NYC area airports a few months back . Not sure how we got on the topic, but we ended up talking about D3 football. I told him that I went to Albany in the early 80's and played for Ford - he is friends with a guy Ed Ragule that played then. I remembered the name, wouldn't recognize the face - but he was a senior when I was a freshman and we both played the same position. Not necessarily relevant to your post but Jacobs (and Dave Soldini) both played when I did. In hindsight, I wasn't nearly as good as they were - I spent a couple of years playing in the Friday afternoon JV games.
  6. He is in the directory as Assistant AD - Media relations. The directory appears to have been updated so it looks like he has a job. My question is what does this mean? There are new titles and changed responsibility but is there something else?
  7. I do appreciate you providing info. There will probably not be any other public disclsures of info until the schedules are announced or as they get closer to practice in October.
  8. I thought Brent was 34. Are Zoellner, Brent and Lillis on campus this summer?
  9. Last year's CHN preview rankings had: Northeastern - 143 Vermont - 123 Boston U - 82
  10. Good post: 1. I wonder who they will pick to win the conference tournament - they don't project Albany going to the NCAA's. 2. Impressed with his thoughts on Covington. There wasn't much info out there on him this season, let's hope he can live up to those expectations. 3. It's obviously great to be on the list and to be on the ESPN bracket projections and I can't wait for the season to start to see how it all shapes up.
  11. Zoellner's role needs to change to garbageman - get the boards and easy putbacks. I know that you can't teach height but I think that a big part of their struggle last year was that they spent a lot of time (especially in conference) trying to run the offense thru Zoellner and it didn't work (generally speaking). I don't know how many games where UA only had a couple of baskets at the 10 minute mark of the first half because they were trying so hard to feed the post. That said, maybe he has improved his low post play. Levi, Jamar and Lucious are the only definites from my perspective. Would like to see Lillis get a lot of minutes as he can shoot from the perimeter and go to the basket aggressively. I just remember how Jamar handled the ball against Siena last year - 10 assists, didn't take many shots but got to the line a lot. A lot of his assists were when he was driving to the basket and kicked the ball out to Lucious or Iati. That was classic point guard play, I hope that Iati's return can get the team back to that mode of play. Would also like to see Brent continue to get his minutes. His role needs to change a bit as well. Late last year he was probably the most reliable perimeter threat that we had, hopefully this year he can play more in the paint. The question for Brown is how does he keep everyone happy with minutes. Last year the JC kid transferred I assumed that some of that was based on minutes. We need to find a way to get a lot of the kids involved in the games.
  12. I think Brent will be in shape in time for fall workouts. There will be a lot of talent this year and the minutes will have to be divided up - he'll need to be prepared if he wants to get minutes. Anyway, things that I hope some of the players are working on in the off season: 1. Zoellner - one or two post moves. At his size he can focus on basics, stop the travelling and a couple of moves will help him tremendously. 2. Jamar - Going to his right more frequently and kicking the ball out to perimeter shooters. Hopefully he won't have to score as much so he can concentrate on driving to the basket and kicking the ball out - like he did vs. Siena. If he can go to the right more often, it will help him make more layups and continue to get to the FT line. 3. Lillis - Has to shoot the ball. He is probably one of the most athletic players on the team. If he becomes comfortable shooting the ball he can be an all conference player before he graduates.
  13. Good info. I'm glad they are on campus. Hopefully the other players are there as well and they are getting ready for a big season. I think that Connelly and Graham are going to have to bang inside so it's good that their height appeared to be close to advertised. If Siggers can make the perimeter shot, his height shouldn't matter as much. Speaking of height, at the BPG, I was courtside watching pregame warmups when I saw Lillis talking to Levi and they were the same height. I think Lillis is 6'4 - which makes Levi even more impressive because he played a lot of 5 as a freshman and sophomore.
  14. Not that it will matter in the end, but who knows. Matt Walsh and Anthony Roberson will stay in the NBA. I think they were the top two scorers for Florida last year. Not sure about the rest of the team, but maybe UA can play with them next year.
  15. Daneman, I wasn't doing the comparing - just reporting what UA published. Maybe the comparison group is wrong but the numbers are bad. Link Below Dashboard info
  16. I don't disagree, but even if you take those schools out and look at the other SUNY schools - the closest to UA is Binghamton that has more than twice Albany's endowment.
  17. From the Siena board - MAAC endowments: Fairfield U. (1942) $141.9 Million Loyola U. (1852) $118.9 Siena College(1937) $104.6 Rider U. (1865) $ 49.8 Canisius C. (1870) $ 48.6 Niagara U. (1856) $ 38.0 Manhattan C. (1853) $ 27.4 St. Peters C.(1872) $ 20.0 Marist C. (1929) $ 17.5 Iona C. (1940 $ 17.2 Not sure of the AE and don't have the time to research, but the UA has published the following endowments for what it considers it's peer group: Florida State - 325M Binghamton - 36 Santa Cruz - 69 UConn - 103 Delaware - 864 UMass-Amherst - 71 Buffalo - 388 Stony Brook - 40 Santa Barbara - 81 Kansas - 586 Nebraska - 577 Oregon - 228 Albany - 16 To me, this shows the commitment that the University has to athletics. The fact that the endowment dollars are so low and they are committed to building new athletic facilities. For those of you who don't give to UA, write a check - this is pretty bad
  18. Interesting articles. Big time D1 is serious commitment. Makes you appreciate the work that McEloy has done in getting so many teams at a level to compete for conference championships. Hard to believe that Buffalo doesn't have any. Also interesting that Ivy league schools spend more on athletics than UB - not including financial aid. That is absolutely amazing.
  19. They included the LIU game at St. Rose. I guess it was technically a home game but if you exclude that game attendance would have been over 2k.
  20. I think he bought himself some time with his performance last year. That said, one of their best players missed the AE tournament last year for an undisclosed reason. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on the hotseat if they didn't perform next year. Especially given the success of the other Spring sports
  21. Dane96, I agree, it was absolutely inappropriate. The Siena program is down and will be down for atleast the next few years. They may be the worst team in the MAAC, second or third best team in the Albany area St. Rose always has a pretty good team) and have a sub 300 RPI (a lot like UA looked a few years back)which woul put them in the lowest 10% of all D1 teams. Certainly, they will be back at some point - they do have the Pepsi for recruiting To top it off, they are signing kids that were not signed during the late signing period and they think these kids are going to contribute. They should not take out their frustration on posters. First they ban Soup - who actually makes some good points, they then attempt to out a poster.
