  1. I tried going through the U of F web site - ended up downloading an order form which needs to be sent back to their athletic office. Tickets are $12 (I assume it's per session). The interesting part is that they are selling tickets and packages to go to NYC for the finals. You would think that they would have a way to just order online. I haven't mailed the form back yet - will wait until next week to confirm that I will still be able to head down to Gainesville. If anyone knows of a better way to get tickets, please post. thanks
  2. Will they get to play any games there this year?
  3. How many more tickets would have been sold if you could log on and buy the tickets online? I know they are working on it - let's hope it's ready by the time the season begins.
  4. Article says that he is still working towards graduation. Let's hope that he graduates. He had the extra year because of his redshirt. Not sure how he is going to get it done if he has to start training camp next month. I hope he finds a way - hate to see a kid not graduate especially when he had that fifth year and the summers.
  5. Tom Clarke is President of one of the business units at Nike - he is a UA graduate.
  6. I spent most of yesterday in airports so I had a chance to read the Athlon's preview. Harvard was picked 2nd in the Ivy League. They have a 7 footer and a 6'8"player that are both preseason all conference and one is preseason player of the year. Also, in the AE, they had Albany 1, Binghamton 2. Nice picture in the magazine of Jamar - same one that is currently on the website - the UNH BPG game.
  7. Siena schedule shows game at 1:00 this year
  8. UA66 Zoellner has been listed as a Jr. since the rosters were updated a few weeks back. I assumed that it was just an oversite
  9. Pool Man I agree that 12 points is respectable for a very good team. I just think back to Dyson when he was a junior and put up great stats when Will Sheridan was there. Once Sheridan left, Dyson struggled. I forget what his actual numbers were (the numbers on the UA website are significantly exaggerated). Good point re: Jamar 1. Jamar was a PG - I can understand lower points from a PG 2. Jamar was MVP in a couple of tournaments 3. There was a decent amount of information on Jamar. The recruiting rags had info on him, he was rated 3 stars, even before his senior year, there were people saying that he could go higher. I am not saying that Yocum won't be a good player, I just have not been able to find any data yet. For example, with Connelly and Brent Wilson - there were no big time players on their teams, but you knew they had good numbers as juniors and there was a lot of info on them online - AAU info, newspaper articles... Just trying to find the same type of info for this kid.
  10. I'm not clear on what Hall is saying in the article. I don't think anyone expects UA to be an Ohio State or NC State - he seems to have answered questions that weren't relevant. What we need him to answer is funding for 1AA scholarships, specifics for stadium funding and timing... Also he mentions a 6500 seat stadium, which makes sense to me but seems to be inconsistent with McElroy's plans. When are they going to start the fundraising?
  11. I am trying to get more info on the kid that verbaled yesterday. I get a little wary when a 6'8" kid only averages 12 points. I did see that one or two of his teammates have signed at ACC schools. It would be good if there was some AAU info on him, but I have not been able to find any. In terms of new recruits, I think a PG should be high on the list. My guess is that Jamar will continue to play point this year (even with Iati back) - there needs to be a plan for the post Jamar years. Big men would be great as well - but they are hard to come by at this level.
  12. I have always been a Patterson supporter. That said, she should consider herself fortunate to have gotten the extension when she did - looks like the women are going to struggle for a while. Re: Lindsey Clark - i don't know what kind of injury she has, but I have never heard of a player becoming a team manager to keep a scholarship. I am not proposing taking the scholarship away but assume that it is injury related and not that she lost interest...
  13. Thanks for posting the picture - I kind of expected the website to have up to date pictures of the progress. It looks like it will be tight to get it done in time for the two home games next weekend. Do they have to paint a lot of lines for field hockey? That may take a bit of time once the turf is down. Is the lax field going down after this is done or have they started preparing that site?
  14. I bet it is him - nice job with the picture. Wonder if all the recruits get to meet with the president? When I had a visit, I don’t recall meeting the president. I remember taking a tour of the PE building, walking around Colonial - that's where most of the athlete's lived, ate in the Colonial cafeteria with the kid that hosted me (he went to my HS). I don't remember much after that - I was told that I got really drunk at the Rat (is that still there?) and then passed out at a party at Alumi Quad. The next day we did go to some classrooms because another kid that was visiting wanted to tell his parents that he saw them. I remember asking how you got to ask questions in a 500 person lecture center… Anyway, he looks a little taller than Brown - so maybe 6'6" is accurate.
  15. FB coach is "retiring". Considering going 1A in football. Coach retiring - 1A in football?
  16. Not sure if Colgate is supposed to be any good this year, but CCSU beating them is a huge win for them, the conference and mid majors in general. Would be great if Albany can beat one of their A10 or PL opponents this year. Let's start with Hofstra
  17. Assuming the quotes attributed to McElroy about budgeting $ for scholarships is true (I forget where I read the quotes), one possible explanation is that he felt like he had no choice. 1. Maybe there wasn't a conference available for UA to join in 2007 and he felt it was better to be in a conference than to be independent. Maybe he expects the buyout amount to be paid by whatever conference they join. 2. Maybe the SUNY leadership (would have to be at that level to impact UA and SB) told them they would have to fund scholarships through fundraising and they realized how difficult it would be. 3. Maybe there is a plan that we just aren't aware of. Who's sending the e-mail to get the real story? This makes no sense. 1. Cancel the stadium - spend the money on academics to improve the schools academic profile. A stadium for a mid major is a waste of money - upgrade University Filed for $1.5 million and let it go. 2. Stop with the scheduling insanity. Give Ford a schedule where he can compete for the mid major championship.
  18. Saw GDG's post on Zoellner and I didn't want to continue on that thread so decided to start a new one. Does anyone thing Zoellner has a chance to play professionally? I'm not talking NBA, but internationally? I would bet that is his aspiration so I think he will need to take this opportunity and have a very good year to make that happen. Not expecting monster numbers but I think it's like a player in the last year of a contract trying to get the big money next year. Any thoughts?
  19. I wasn't reading the schedule right - I didn't count the BPG and just didn't see the others. thanks,
  20. looks like just one doubleheader men vs. maine women vs hartford why isn't siena a doubleheader? Also, if anybody knows - there were two players that sat out last year. They were both very tall and thin - saw them at the BPG sitting on the bench. I think one was the recruit from Maine a couple of years ago. The question is, are they going to be able to provide any post play.
  21. There was a similar post many months back and still think the University needs to improve communication to the community in general to get more support. As an example, I was driving my son to karate on Saturday while listening to one of the local sports talk shows. They mentioned GA. Tech's intrasquad scrimmage many times - encouraging people to stop by and check it out. It was free, parking was easy and I had nothing else planned for that afternoon so I went watched them practice and when I got home checked out the ticket packages and will probably buy one of the packages (as soon as I see my son's baseball schedule to make sure there aren't conflicts). That's a simple example, and I am an extreme case but I would have never driven down there if I hadn't heard the radio announcements over and over that morning. Also, I have gone to several Tech baseball games because they give away tickets to the local youth leagues. There was a youth baseball night where every youth baseball player in the Atlanta area was given tickets for themselves and a parent to attend the game. We had great seats, it was a good game and we have gone to about 5 games after that. Same thing with soccer - the Atlanta Silverbacks (could very well be a college team as well) sponsor summer clinics and in season clinics for the town rec leagues. Don't know if they are allowed to but they might sell tickets at the Siena game. They should also look to sell / give away tickets with promotions at the local HS games. They can also have HS double headers. For the students, I'm not sure there is much to do besides communicate with them at orientation and at the very beginning of classes. May sound like I'm rambling, but I think UA does a very poor job at selling the athletics programs. With the talent that the basketball team has, they should average 3k fan - 2k without the students. Maybe the recent reorganization in the athletics department will help get the word out.
  22. Hope he makes a practice squad as well. Even if he doesn't, i'm sure it'll be an experience that he will never forget.
  23. I've not had a problem with the background - I have noticed that when I respond to a post, the board automatically includes the previous post as a quote and I have to delete it. Is there a setting for that?
  24. I read an article a couple of weeks back that said Geir's best shot is the practice squad. Not sure if that's why he isn't playing, but if he can make the practice squad, maybe he can get some time in NFL Europe to adjust to the speed of the NFL.
