  1. Just read the note about practice starting on Saturday. Found it interesting that it didn't mention Zoellner. Mentioned Jordan getting significant minutes, but no Zoellner. You'd think that they would mention a 7 footer when UA has not had any size in the last several years. Reason for concern? Also, professor, where are you? Trust you'll have some info once practice gets going next week.
  2. Patch, A previous post said Dyson was out of shape - did he appear out of shape? thanks
  3. Thanks for the info, couple of questions: 1. price tag in 2004 alone is $200 million? 2. was timing discussed? When is phase 1? thanks
  4. Vermont and BU are clearly the class of the AE. Maine will also be good, although they lose Dobson, they still have Flavin and Reed - I think Markwood will play better this year as well. Binghamton will be very good as well - two big guys. If they can get some good perimeter play, they can compete with anyone in the conference. Northeastern will also be very good - not sure if they will be able to win it all with Barea there - he will need to share the ball with Barnes and Davis. I think UA will be better than the other conference teams. They will finish in the top 4 or 5 depending on how the big guys play. From a personnel perspective, can Dyson or Brent Wilson play well in conference? From a coaching perspective, can Brown manage the minutes and keep everyone happy?
  5. No more A-10, Patriot League or Ivy League opponents. UA can focus on a three peat in the NEC. UA will take homecoming weekend as an opportunity to perfect the option against St. Francis before getting another shot at Monmouth. Was impressed that UA went back to the wishbone triple option yesterday. Shows that Ford can adjust to his personnel. The results, in terms of offensive yardage, was evident.
  6. Few interesting observations from the Lehigh game notes: 1. Campbell is not starting - not sure if he is injured. 2. Fantell starting at TB after game that Dustin Wilson had 3. Unverzagt remains starting TE - guess the FB experiment is over
  7. Wilson had Gary Jones type numbers. Not just Wilson, but Fantell averaged 11 yards per carry. Makes a big difference when you play teams at your level. Especially with the o-line. Rossomando has a very complex / sophisticated o-line techniques. My guess is that these techniques don't work as well with higher level competition because their d-lines are stronger and their linebackers are a lot quicker. Generally speaking, when you put his o-line against a comparable opponent, the running backs are going to have good days.
  8. I thought football would start 0-3, expect them to go 1-4 and end up 7-4.
  9. 8,000? Would like to see 1,500 consistently at basketball games - the arena is pretty nice and the team should be a lot better than previous years.
  10. As painful as the first three games have been, UA gets a "break" and should have a chance to play well and beat Sacred Heart this week. Let's get this win and play Lehigh so they can focus on the NEC games. Monmouth beat a very good Robert Morris team that beat a very good Duquesne team last week. Also, Wagner beat a very good Stony Brook team. Stony Brook played Lehigh pretty toough last week - down 3-0 at the half before losing by 22. The NEC will be tough. Let's get Ford and the team focused beginning this week
  11. How long until Bocanegra becomes the starter? Delgado struggles and is pulled early, Bazan can't / won't pass the ball. Defense will keep them in the game but they need to find a way to move the ball offensively.
  12. The Herman banks reference makes me a bit uncomfortable. Banks wasn't recruited and Brown found him at a camp for unrecruited players in Texas. Not only was he unrecruited but he was also not prepared physically and didn't seem to work as hard as he could. Dyson on the other hand was considered a coup for UA. Not only did he seem physically prepared for D1, but rumor was he was being recruited by C-USA schools. That said, he didn't have a great Senior year - had a solid junior year playing next to Will Sheridan.
  13. alumni '92', what does your quote mean? Out of shape as the Professor is saying or not talented?
  14. The game was on Fox Digital in Atlanta as the regulary scheduled game in Florida was cancelled because of the Hurricane. Some thoughts: 1. Liked the uniforms. they are the same as LSU's 2. Fantell looked pretty good 3. Huge difference in team speed especially on the outside - wideouts and corners 4. Huge difference in QB's - saw the same thing vs. Montana, Northeastern and Brown. Didn't matter that Bazan was in, Delgado would not have been much better. The difference appears to be their ability to read defenses and make accurate passes. 5. Tough to get a pash rush with a three man line - can't really blitz because the passing was so accurate 6. Hofstra could have easily scored 60 or 70 points. This said, UA will be undefeated in the NEC
  15. Hofstra by two touchdowns. UA is good but for perspective they were beat soundly by Towson last year and Towson will be a doormat in the A-10 this year. That said, stranger things have happened. Hofstra is picked to come in last in the A10 northern division UA has a lot of Long Island kids that will have family and friends at the game...
  16. Couple of thoughts and questions: 1. Is the game on FSNY or Digital? I get the digital channels but not FSNY, would love to see the game. 2. Looks like the D moved from a 4-3 to a 3-4 with Sands being the odd man out. 3. TB must be pretty deep - remember Fantell was a great HS running back in HS (at a small school). Omar Johnson should get some minutes as well - he was a pretty good HS RB. Delgado is listed as a JR - is that right? I thought he was a senior. 4. Did Banach fall off the map as QB? i think he played a couple of games last year. Sounds like he may be 4th or 5th this year. Lastly, it's amazing that Ford can get all these kids, redshirt them knowing that they may not play until they are juniors or seniors.
  17. What we have to remember is that UA was ting last year. With the exception of losing to Monmouthm they ted every other NEC team last year. I recall that St. Francis had some success passing and Central Ct. was competitive for a while but overall it was nce. The other important point is that while Gary Jones was a great back, the O-line was pretty inredible. With the O-line, it's a system and not necessarily each individual players. That is why UA will have another good year offensively - the O-line has great technique.
  18. Did a search for this kid and it looks like he is pretty good. However, every site that I saw listed him at either 6'5" or 6'6". At that height, I am not sure where he plays - unless he is an incredible rebounder. For Brown, he appears to have recruited well over his term. That said, he needs to translate that into wins before he can be considered for an extension. I hope this is the year that those wins begin to pile up.
  19. I graduated from UA almost 20 years ago and have worked for 3 companies in that period. Not once has anyone focused on where I went to school. I do have an MBA from another school but no one focuses on that either. The irony is that when you are outside of the northeast many people have never heard of UA. I think that when you first graduate and are looking for a job in the NY area people may have an opinion of a UA grad but after a couple years experience no one cares. Unless you went to Harvard, your college means very little as your professional credentials builld up. That is what people look at when they hire you. I couldn't tell you where most of the people in my business unit went to school - it doesn't matter because they're hired based on their skills and experience and they are successful because they deliver.
  20. UA will not lose more than one conference game. Yes the starting backfield is gone, but the defense will be very good. If Delgado can provide some offense with minimal mistakes, the defense will stop the opposition - Kryzak and Sands will be tough up the middle. Campbell should be healthy and the redshirt freshmen will contribute - DuPont and the DE(forget the other kids name that will play DE).
  21. OK. the Siena series has been extended. How many believe UA can win one of the games? I believe they will play well this year and have a good chance at a win next year. When it happens it will obviously be huge for the program.
  22. Thanks for the info: 1. Syracuse women at home is pretty good. 2. Why are they playing a game at HVCC? Wish they would post the schedule on the website. Aso, I remember them selling courtside seats at the BPG last year - I guess they are making it official now.
  23. Just read the newspaper article. I find it interesting that Delaware is playing Hofstra as a non-conference game even though they are in the same conference.
  24. Never saw Gallup play at UA, but I have seen him on television a few times at Coastal Carolina (there is a weekly Big South game on a cable station in the southeast). He had a great jump shot and he was definitely the team leader. Good for him.
  25. For UA - they should be able to get games against St. Rose for obvious reasons and possibly against Buffalo as they are a SUNY school. Dowling isn't very far awy either.
