  1. I'm excited he was inked for another 4 years. Yes I posted in another thread asking if it was time to move on from Marr, but that was more tongue in cheek and wondering what the school could do to get back to where it was just a few short years ago.

Good for him and good for the program. Now get out there and recruit. Sell the rag tag misfit story that made this program so endearing every year and got it featured in national press for the photos and such. Make the team interesting and fun and a place that players want to be again.

Good close. Good effort by several players. LIU is bad though. Ketner showed some stuff. Actually some assists and good FTs. Who knew?

And a nice dunk and a few nice moves underneath. I said his improvement has impressed me in a few games but no one agreed with me. I think he is serviceable as an AE big, just not athletic enough to do much against the bigger, faster, stronger athletes in some of the bigger conferences.

Trying not to feel too positive after this win, since LIU is terrible, but there were some good things to take from this game.

Beagle continues to be a monster, as someone else said, I hope to see him for at least 2 more years. If he transfers up for his senior year, I'm not sure anyone can blame him in today's college basketball world.

Edmead can be out of control sometimes, but he looked good today. He can play with lower level competition.

Reddish looked more under control for most of the game, but his head and mouth can be a problem. Another T tonight after a slick move. Someone needs to get in his head and have him prove it before talking. Trash talking is fun, but win something first please.

Drumgoole continues being up and down. Unstoppable for a bit, then disappears. Need consistency.

Hutch is still a ball of energy and hustle. Glad to see one of his open threes finally fall. Hard not to like him. Last two years he was terrible in the OOC, and certain posters said he wasn't D1 material, then he went and played solid ball in conference play. He will be fine.

Nice seeing Jackson get a start after being injured last time on this court. He isn't ready yet, but we don't have many more options. He is going to have to learn the D1 game as he goes.

Say what you want about Patel, but I love watching Juice play. Diving everywhere and just outworking people. He has shown flashes this year but has yet to really put it together. I can see why he was a fan favorite at Cornell.

Not sure what Davis did to piss off the staff, but his minutes keep dropping every game. Maybe DK sees what we saw early with him trying to do much and beat people by himself everytime down the court. Who knows, but the team could use him if he could figure D1 out.

It's sad seeing Amica play as he was supposed to be the next big thing until injuries killed him. It's just him and Hutch left as connections to the WB era.

All in all, this game was two terrible teams fighting to see who was worse. My take away is that we will be fine against the bottom of the AE, and could end up with 4-5 league wins, but I do not see them having much of a chance against Bryant, UML, UVM, or UMBC (which is what I think will be the order of the top 4). They can play with and potentially go above .500 against Bing, NJIT, Maine, and NH. Going 4-4 or 5-3 in those games and maybe stealing 1 game from the top 4.

  3. I didn't watch much of this game, just a few minutes late in the first half. We got blown out. If anyone did watch: what did you see. I don't see many comments on the game play. The box score only shows 8 players took the floor. I know some people have been tough on Ketner, but I think he has done fairly well with his size as a role player. He didn't play at all.

Did the team stick to game plan to work on getting better against higher level opponents or was it a chuck fest? 6-30 from 3 is... Well it's less than ideal.

I'm sure lots of negatives can be said. Anything positive to take from the game? My favorite quote is always: there is no lose. Either you win or you learn something.

Warren Nolan site currently has Albany predicted to be 1-15 in the AE with Binghamton also being 1-15. So no wins except vs each other. A total of 2 d1 wins this season. That might be a little harsh, but from what I saw so far much closer to reality than a 500 or better league record and sadly with a chance to lose 24 or more games. At least they do have 1 win so they can't match LCC (0-24, .000) record in patsos last season

They have to improve a lot to just be in games for the whole 40 minutes . Whether our second year coach has it in him to get the team to improve remains to be seen. While I hope so, I am not optimistic at this point.

Benson wanted his own man to be the basketball coach so the results so far speak very poorly on Benson as well.

My favorite analytics sites is Bart Torvik's. All free, pretty damn accurate, and some really cool ways of looking at players and teams. His site has Albany going 5-11 in league and is only favored in 4 of the remaining games, only 3 in league, it assumes 2 upset wins based on probability. Only games team is favored to win are at home: LIU, NH, NJIT, and Bing. Has us as dogs on the road against those team and in every other game.

I suggest bookmarking this site: https://barttorvik.com/team.php?team=Albany&year=2023

There are decades of history available on the site for every team, and so many cool features like looking at teams with similar resumes and rankings and where they finished, and lots of fun geek stats. It works much better on a computer. It works in your phone but shows much more limited information. More shows in landscape mode than portrait, but even more shows in desktop mode (or on a computer)

This stuff is NOT relevant - the thread is ONLY to post information on kids being recruited. I create thread every year JUST to post info on who is being recuited NOT to attack the Administration or the Staff.  Every year the same two or three guys usurp this thread or and other ones just to continmue their attacks - they feel they will be allowed to be negative and it seems they are allowed!!!!  They shouild start their thread on that crap.  Do you realize that everyone can see this stuff including the kids being recuited.  Just not right.  I guess some of you guys have nothing better to do than dwell on negativity.

We've chatted in PM, and in person before (although I doubt you know who I am). I understand your point, and to an extent I agree, but to play devil's advocate, a thread just naming offers has little to no value on a message board. There are multiple websites that track offers. Forums are designed for conversation about the offers and the program.

Might I suggest you edit the first post in the thread and put a list there of all offers you find by position with a link to your post showing the tweet or confirmation or other background info. Every time you add a new offer, also edit the original post with the name, in the correct section by position and a link to the comment where you put the full story on the offer.

Then the thread becomes usable as the entire list is in one place by position and all the "off-topic" chatter in the thread (positive or negative) is inconsequential for the thread overall and you get your desired result, a clean and easy repository of recruiting news and info, while the rest of the fans and trolls on the board can do their thing without bothering you. Everyone wins.

The Great Danes are likely to prevail in 3 maybe 4 games as other teams may have an off game while for some unexplained reason, we play better.

UNH has one good win but they are behind UA in pretty much all metrics so far this year and we've played a harder schedule.

I still think we could pull off 8-10 conference wins if things go right and have a shot at an upset or 2 in the conference playoffs, but we are more than likely looking at entering conference play with 2 division 1 wins, and finishing the season with 5 or 6 total division 1 wins.

This team, as it's currently constructed and currently playing, has shown they have the ability to compete with every team the have faced so far for 2/3 of each game. It's not far fetched to think they could do it for an entire game as they gel as a team. There is little to no evidence that will actually occur, but it's not out of the realm of possibility to go 6-2 or 5-3 when we play UNH/Bing/Maine/NJIT, and get 2-3 wins in 8 games against UMBC/UVM/Bryant/UML.

Chances of the above are less than optimal, but again very possible.

  7. This case has nothing to do with Lamb. It does not matter if Lamb did it or not. Rape is hard to prove in court. This case is about the schools response to the complaints the student made. The school essentially told her to keep quiet and not rock the boat of the basketball teams success. They failed her when she needed help. Even if it wasn't really rape.... You know it was consensual at first and became non consensual after it was over, or went from consensual to non consensual in the middle. Yes I know those are both still rape, but it's much hard to convict in those cases.... Even if he is 100% innocent and it never happened: the school still should have taken the accusations and pleas for help seriously instead of telling her to zip it. This is where it becomes a potential title IX violation and a black eye on the campus.

Lamb is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If she does not have enough evidence and/or the case is one of those consensual non-consensual situations then she would never bring the case against him until she could prove it. Until that happens, Lamb's job is probably safe until it becomes bad PR for the team. As of now the story is fairly buried.

Looking at numbers from last year for Patel, Kellog and Edmead, all had significant minutes and had decent numbers all for all D1 teams. Two of them avg close to double digit points. I can’t say the team is full of non-D1 players. The portal is always hit or miss and I’d have to agree that the coaching here is terrible. He can recruit he just is lost with putting it together on the floor.

Team still has the one of the lowest D1 experience levels in all of D1 - it might be the lowest when you look at total D1 games played and not "years". Yes some of the transfers had good years at other schools, but we have a team that has played only a handful of games together and is full of players that are Fr/So/Never played / missed season because of injury. I'm still trying to give everyone the benefit of the doubt - especially considering the SOS this year.

Yes they have looked beyond terrible for long stretches of every single game, there have been some bright spots. I am back to my give DK three years before being OVERLY negative. Obviously negativity at moments will happen and comments that are too harsh will be made in the heat of the moment, but I still think we all need some more cautious patience.

  9. While the team has not played well, I think it's fair to expect to be blown out in 3 or 4 of the next 5 and still have a chance to surprise in conference play. Team needs to stay healthy and hopefully grow against much higher level opponents. Hopefully they keep their head up and just keep trying to gel as a team and improve. This is a rough schedule for a team with so little D1 experience. At this point it's just got to be look for positives and improvements that aren't reflected in the scoreboard.

There are some tough teams in the league this year in Bryant, UML, UVM, and even UMBC. Even Maine has shown flashes. Improvements from a lot of teams. I've read the league is in a down year, but I don't see it. That said, it's not unrealistic to think this team can compete in the AE. I'd love to see them put it together or get hot and get a big upset or even take one of these teams down to the wire, but getting blown out will tell us nothing. If/when that happens, I hope to be seeing adjustments in positioning and more movement and inside play. Playing the game plan instead of chucking.

Chances are the 3 game will be the only way to close a large gap and we will see the team not want to give up and go that way instead of sticking to the game plan and improving.
