  1. I deleted my post where I spoke about the teams talent but lack of leadership and what I perceive as DKs coaching style (hint: I think he is too nice and not a HC) and how he needs to evolve from assistant to HC, but I think this image speaks volumes and shows why even the most die hards of us are getting ready to throw in the towel. The HVCC gym will probably be way too big for the amount of fans for the upcoming home games.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present the very bottom worst teams in all of D1:

.  Lot's of individual talent and athletes...but is is like food shopping while hungry.  Ya end up with a ribeye, cookies, cake, apples, mustard, and caviar.  All good or fancy things individually, together a disaster unless a master chef knows how to craft something out of it.

Incredible analogy. Basically what I was just telling my wife and kid in the car ride home spoken perfectly.

  3. Statistically, the Virginia game was the second best defensive effort of the year, and they aren't a bad offensive team. They lost badly because it was also one of the worst offensive performances of the year.

If they can keep the same defensive mindset, I think they will be able to get better shots with less fadeaways and shots floating to the left or right and make a higher percentage against an AE defense instead of the Virginia stifling defense.

I feel like the team has a solid chance to start league play with a W at home, but the start of conference schedule is going to be real tough with UMBC, UML, and Bryant to follow.

Prediction: team starts league play 1-0, drops to 1-3, then goes on a small run to get to 4-3 before hitting the hardest part of the schedule (UML, UVM, Bryant) at the start of February.

Reddish among the missing again. No points.
OPINIONS:  is/has he been over rated on this blog; just in a slump; or just giving up on UA???

Watching him play it appears he has lost all his confidence or maybe got his hand slapped too many times for the technicals and trash talk and now he just isn't playing like himself. Maybe he gave up, who knows. All I know is that when he is aggressive he can do things physically that others on the team can't. Explosive dunks on drives. He is still over 35% from three so he can shoot. He looks tentative and afraid to try to do anything when he gets a touch.

  5. Honestly, I leave this game actually feeling more positive about the teams chances in the AE than I was before. This team won't face another team anywhere close to this intense defensively for the rest of the year. The best offensive team in the AE isnt nearly as good as Virgina offensively either. They played pretty solid defense and did get a lot of decent looks that would have been wide open against any AE team.

Sadly, our defense has left the building ... outscored 25-4

Don't think that's all the defense's fault..it's still a low scoring game. Scoring 4 points as a team in the first 12 minutes of the second half causes that.

Edit: 4 points in the last 5:15 of the first half AND the first 11:24 of the second half - COMBINED. That's 4 points in almost 17 minutes of play. From up 2 to down 24 in that stretch.

  7. Game Day....

Did the break allow the team to work on stuff and hopefully catch Virginia playing sluggish and allow us to at least make it a game for 30 minutes, or is it going to be another game when the defense is like a screen door bottom boat without flex seal?

My guess is Virginia covers the 27.5 point spread and wins easily. Final score UA 58 Virginia 92.

This team has shown flashes and keeping it fairly close until halftime isn't out of the question, I just think the team will probably settle for too many threes and just watch the deficit grow with each possession. I'm thinking that this teams defense is so bad that they probably all shoot lights out in practice when against each other so they think they can do it against other teams as well.

  8. Just looking at the analytics on the Barttorvik site... Yesterday (NIU Game) was just the second game the team had an adjusted offensive rating over 100 with a 108.2 (American was 109.4) but the defensive effort was once again terrible with a 110.5. The only games that the team had an adjusted defensive rating better than 100 (D1 Average) was that 92.7 against LIU and the 97.2 against Towson. Everything else has been terrible. That 109.4 ADJO against American was matched with the worst defensive adjusted rating I have ever seen in a game with 140.8 (although that was just a little worse than the 137.9 the team put up against St. Joes).

If this team wants to win anything in the AE it needs to figure out the defense, and quickly as there is only one more tune up before the real season starts. Virginia should be a crazy sad game. While UA is below average with both offensive and defensive efficiency, Virginia is 111.1/93.0 respectively. #29 offense, #41 defense. This game could be painful to watch.

Current rankings as of today - using only D1 games for the statistics, but all games for the W/L record...

I am surprised that UMBC has popped up so far, and Bryant has fallen so much with the roster they have.

Edit: Accidentally posted in the wrong thread. Moved the post here.

  9. I knew they had worked on filling their roster using the new transfer portal rules, but damn, I hadn't realized just how much of their team is transfers. I guess this proves how quickly a team can be built in todays world:

    Bryant Starters

    • Earl Timberlake - Miami (ACC) then Memphis
    • Charles Pride - Bryant
    • Antwan Walker - Georgetown then Rhode Island
    • Sherif Gross-Bullock - LaSalle
    • Doug Edert - St. Peters

    Bryant Bench Rotation

    • Miles Latimer - SBU then Bucknell
    • Tyler Brelsford - George Washington
    • Kvonn Cramer - Hofstra
    • Josh Ozabor - Bryant

Bryant Bench (Under 10% of teams minutes)

    • Tay Mosher - American
    • Chauncey Hawkins - St Francis NY
    • Joe Moon IV - Bryant
    • Todd Rochelle - Bryant

Only 2 players on their roster are getting at least 10% of the teams minutes, with Josh Ozabor only at 10.9%, so really only 1 Bryant Recruited player is in the real playing group.

I'd much rather focus on talented 4 year players, and hopefully get 3 before they attempt to play up and fill late needs with transfers, but so far it looks like Jared A$$h0le err Grasso has a recipe that looks like it works.

    Just food for thought.

Yes, we win! We now have 3 wins vs. D-1 teams. I find it either funny or sad when our W-L record is shown on the TV screen as having 4 wins, now 5. False advertising. Oh well, on to Virginia, and then what really matters—AE play. BTW, did anyone else hear one of the announcers say, with about a minute to go in the game, “Beagle might not stay 4 years at U-Albany?” Apparently people other than UA fans are sensing this.

I think we all know that this is the reality of modern Mid-Major basketball. My hope is to get 2 more years of all-conference type play from him then wish him well as he plays for an ACC team preparing for the NBA draft in his senior year. Hopefully in the first two years of the renovated SEFCU he can play in the tournament with UA before preparing for his future.

  11. Kept it a game for 3 quarters. As typical, good mid major players/teams prove they can play with the big programs for a bit, but just don't have the horses to compete for a full game. Pretty impressive performance until shots stopped falling, a deficit grew and the team has to try to force things to claw back, which rarely works.

Enjoyable watch for the last 5 minutes of Q2 and Q3. Missed most of Q4 because of a conference call. At least I missed the cuse run and only really saw good play.
