The message sent by Coach Killings, if you suited up tonight and did not make the floor, you might want to start looking at other schools to play for.  Vermont went nine deep with actual playing time while UAlbany played only seven ... I think there will be many new faces next season ....

Did he say this during an interview or something or is this just inferred? Because he is now in year 3 and if he wants to keep his job he is going to need to get mean in a sense.  He is just too nice at times. If you can't contribute on a bad team then you should be let go.

This AM TU has Drumgoole with TWO more years of eligibility. Would think he'd be GOOD to keep around, with Beagle, Jackson, Neely back and what looks like a promising recruiting class and possibly Amica & Little. A lot of question marks & unknowns in all of this though??

Yes. I have said that before.  I believe drumgoole is considered a sophomore due to a redshirt and covid year.

Another thug eh? I know we have a lot of guys that suck, but didn’t know they were thugs

Yes thugs is a perfect word for at least a couple of our players.  Taunting technical fouls, immaturity,  flagrant fouls, selfish behavior,  ejections, lack of accountability,  lack of giving a "poop". Add another one . Perfect for this team .

With this season all but over, I wanted to check in to see how the 3 freshman recruits for next year were doing. Checked out Robinson first... Not looking good. I have no idea what led up to the melee, so this could have been something that was building up and him just responding or it being part of something bigger, but here it appears he punches a guy setting a screen in the face. Hope this incident isn't as bad as it seems. He had some pretty good offers. Based on this it seems he was a better fit for his offer from Bryant, but I am only basing this on the 18 second clip.

Agree why no time out? So if you are not calling time out, let your best ball handler; and a lot to ask of Jackson, but he should have never given up the ball—dribble around & take it to the hoop. You are going to make it, get fouled, get it blocked or just plain miss; 1-10, what do you got to lose. Drumgole & Reddish get stripped of the ball on drives what 50% of the time. Jackson should have taken the final shot himself & not tried to pas off IMHO

They used the timeout after the first made free throw.  There was no need for another time out . A good coach would have had a play called during that time out.  Of course Killings is a terrible coach and therefore no play was called.

  6. I have not posted a lot because I don't want to get banned. But wow. I can't believe this man is a head coach.

3 minutes left: hold the ball and throw up a wild 3 pointer at the end of the shot clock .

Next possession, 2 minutes left : shot clock violation

Last 2 possessions in regulation: a turnover and a shot that does not hit the rim.

That's absolutely pathetic.  That's all coaching.  Coach Killings is absolutely trash and the only reason he was not fired is because the color of his skin. Bottom line.

ps. I always thought President Rodríguez had enough issues on his plate; and I never wanted to write him directly. I am out of the country until next Thursday. The first thing I do when I get back, is to write President Rodriguez. And I urge everyone on this blog to do likewise.

If people feel a letter campaign to some other individual more effective or appropriate please supply your suggestions

I wrote the president  a couple of months ago .

    My email:

    President Rodriguez,

As a UAlbany alumni I am absolutely disgusted with the way UA has handled the Coach Killings incident.  I am appalled that anyone would support the intentional physical striking of a student athlete.  The fact that Coach Killings was able to keep his job shows that the University supports physical contact with students. AD Benson also needs to be fired for allowing this to happen.  For the first time in my life I am ashamed to be an Albany alumni.  I urge you to do the right thing and immediately terminate the contracts of both Coach Killings and Athletic Director Benson. Please restore integrity and honor to UAlbany.

    His response :

Thank you for your email and for sharing your concerns. I assure you that the health and well-being of our campus community is of paramount importance to me and my leadership team.

While the University cannot comment publicly on pending litigation, it has made every effort to be as transparent as it can be regarding this matter. Confidentiality prevents the University from disclosing some information publicly, but please know that it will address the allegations made in the lawsuit in court.

Again, the University at Albany greatly appreciates your feedback.

  8. Here is my issue.  I'm starting to think Killings does not have a game plan.  Most of the time I don't know specifics about a team and talk in general.

However , this game we all know Doles.  He is soft. Not bad but soft.  He is not going to back you down, or beat you off the dribble . He is going to shoot the midrange jumper or 3 pointer. He was on the team all last year doing this . And yet he continued to do it last night and be effective.  The fact the players did not know this shows their lack of understanding or the coaches lack of understanding.  Either way it's extremely alarming.

  9. Was not sure where to put this, however I recently ran into an "employee of UA athelics". They stated Killings does not want to build a team through the portal. Very interesting to me. He believes in developing freshman or multiple year transfers. Believes that Neeley, Jackson, Beagle, Edmead, and to some extent Reddish are developing nicely.  He believes he got a "steal" with all 3 incoming recruits. He thinks he is still 2 years away, Beagles Jr year, but believes he can build something special .

Not sure I agree but I was nice to hear that he had a plan.  This was the plan he was hired from. If things play out we could do far worse than having Drumgoole, Neeley, and Beagle as a foundation next year.

Drumgoole spent two seasons at Pitt. He's listed as a senior on the roster which he is academically. I would think he has another year left with the COVID year. I agree he's a good player and is having an all-conference type year so far.

Right I understand he had 2 years a Pitt. 1 was a covid year. Then he redshirt last year . Does that mean he has this year and 2 more after.  That's kinda what I'm asking.

  11. This game was over before it started.  I think Drumgoole is not a terrible player.  I think he is one of the only players that is worth anything.  So I will ask this.  I understand he is listed as a senior, however what is his eligibility year? Is he really a sophomore?

    2019-2020 freshman

    2020-2021  Covid year

    2021-2022 redshirt

    2022-2033 Sophomore ?

Does this make sense? Because nexy year with a jr (theoretically) Drumgoole, sophomore Neeley, and sophomore Beagle, and a Jr Reddish, at least had a decent core.

  12. I know this is cliche but kids can join the Army at 18. Drink at 21. Garbage is not a terrible word at all . I turned 22 and got a job of authority.  I have been called wayyyyy worse than garbage.

Truth is there is no "talent" on this team.  Now have the freshman (now sophomores) improved .....yes, but they were so bad last year, outside of Neely, there was no way to go but up.

We are a bad bad team, however I can see them improve in conference, mostly because there are some bad AE teams.  Hoping for a .500 record.
