  1. Field Hockey comes into tournament as 2nd seed, but travels to 3rd seed Maine for this afternoon's game @ 5pm.

Why are we giving up home field this time? -uofalbany

All the Semi Final FH games are at UNH the top seed.

It would be nice if the UAlbany site would have it posted that way by looking at the schedule the game seems to be at 5pm at UA but it isn't.

  2. While Metcalf battled hard he continued to miss from 3 feet and in repeatedly...at this point my starting 5 would be...

    -Black

    -Gurrier

    -Johnson

    -Devlin

    -Puk

    - Evans to spell Black and Gurrier where he can either run the point when Mike isn't in or move Mike to the two and have Gurrier bring the ball up.

    - Hooley off the bench to spell Gurrier and Johnson

    - Weigman should be the first wing off the bench to spell both Johnson or Devlin.

    - Metcalf to spell Puk...can go real big with Puk and Metcalf but then you are taking away offense and shooting, I'd use this in spots.

    - Page/Iati

Click for as much as you follow UA Basketball Have you ever seen Guerrier handle the ball? He's a pure catch and shoot guy 1 dribble max . I will bet he will get ZERO minutes at the point and almost "0" minutes at the 2. Last season he was an undersized 4 most of the time. He will probably get more minutes this season at the 3.

Hooley may play the 1,2 or 3 and Rowley should get sometime as an undersized 4

I also believe DJ will get big minutes

    Practice should be very competitive.

  3. just to complete my thoughts from yesterday. Based on the practice and scrimmage, at this point:

Black is the man, he appears on a mission [the loss to brook must still sting or the loss of Logan and G, but he seems to have a fearsome determination].

Puk enough said above, Blake more than capable of spelling Puk.

Weiggman a little above Luke at this point, but I am betting on Luke to start.

Johnson over Guerrrier, Johnson seems to be a better slasher and stronger around the basket, but Jason a better shooter when he is on. Could be a real battle for minutes between these two.

DJ Evans over Hooley, only because Hooley still nursing ankle injury {yet he plays hard with reckless abandonment (I mean this as a compliment)}. I think Hooley wins out starting, with DJ getting a lot of minutes backing up both Hooley and Black.

Iati out with a concussion until 10/24, but I see him as instant offense off the bench and if DJ does not provide the pest defense claimed, look for Jacob here also.

Gibson MRI on foot pending (season ending????). Paige very disappointing Saturday-could be jitters @ this point.

OK I know a lot more people were there Saturday, so feel free to add your thoughts. I for one am very optimistic about the season, but I guess I always feel this way after the intra squad scrimmage--hope "springs" eternal in baseball; I do not know the appropriate sentiment for pre-season basketball, but opening day only 2 1/2 weeks away.

Good over view - from what you saw what do you think our opening dat starting five will look like??

I know Black starts but after that I have questions on the other 4 positions????

Can we play Metcalf and Puk together? Can we play Metcalf, Puk and Devlin together?

Can we get away with playing two of the following three DJ,Black and Iati together (very small backcourt)?

Are Johnson and Weigman 3s or 4s? I was disappointed in their rebounding and Johnson's FT shooting.

Luke looked like he was moving much better than last season.

Where or will Rowley get minutes?

    The team looked very unselfish

  4. I picked up the Times Union (for the 1st time in 5 or 6 weeks) to check out the local HS FB scores and I saw there was an article on Peter Hooley - it was a very non descript piece with little (new information) substance and probably very little research, and at the end there were a few blurbs about the scrimmage.

I guess there is no need for me to look at the "Times Useless" any more.

  5. We all knew it was going to go like this. No matter how well we do in the NEC, the conference will always weigh us down. Can not wait to ramp up scholarships, play in the new stadium and compete in the top football conference in FCS. Then our ranking might mean something. This year however, is all about making the playoffs and making some noise. jpg_91

Lets be somewhat realistic about rankings....

the teams we have beaten are a combined 13-25 and none have a winning record

The team we lost to, has lost 2 in a row giving up 83pts

How could we be ranked any higher????

    As jpg_91 stated

This year however, is all about making the playoffs and making some noise.
  6. .....There is still so much to do! - GreatDane87

I think we all agree there is alot left to do but I really think we have to start completing jobs before moving on to other jobs.

Look at what we've done in the past - Field Hockey has a nice turf field and nothing else, Fallon Field is nice but all the work below the bleachers has never been completed, Our track is terrible and our Soccer teams are forced to play away (home games).

Lets finish this stage of the Stadium completely before we start taking on other major projects. Right noe all are newer facilities are upgrades but all are incomplete.

  7. I went to UA this past weekend to see Fh and Men's Soccer as they were both home on the schedule. FH was playing UCONN and there was no Men's Soccer at UA.

Now I planned on going to Campus to see FH vs Missouri State at 5pm luckily I read an article posted that they are on the road.

Are we ready for the "Big Time" if we can't even get our own schedule right on our own site?

The schedule has Volleyball home vs VCU at 11am and Sacred Heart at 5pm the only reason I knew that was bogus is because it is listed as West Point Challenge so I imagine that's at West Point

Gerardo Suero (193-G-89, college: Albany) was named this thurday as LNB 2012 Rookie of the year. Suero was selected as Titanes Del Distrito Nacional first pick this same year and made a great impact in the team.

In his first professional season in the LNB, Suero posted great numbers. He averaged 17.0 points 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 asist. From the field he had 48%, 40% from the 3 poing range and 72% from the free throw line.

The 23 years old player, had a great summer while playing for the Dominican National Basketball Team in Puerto Rico, wining the Gold medal in Centrobasket 2012.

"This is a great league, I was better than what I expected and I think better things will come for me", said Suero.

Now Suero will play with Titanes Del Distrito Nacional in the LNB playoffs semifinal vs Indios de San Francisco, the series starts tonight.

Jason Siggers has been in the french "B" League the past few years and has been one of its top scorers. It's a Good League. This year he will play with Lille last year he was with Rouen

A few others have not committed yet.

Class of 2013 AAU Basketball Stock Risers

After a busy summer of basketball all around the country, Iowa Preps takes a look back and names which seniors raised their stock the most overall. Find out who made the cut now!

    Dallas Ennema, Sheldon

Ennema is an elite forward who proved what he could do with the Martin Bros. this summer. His team may not have had large numbers but this senior's ability to score made him pickup a number of scholarship offers.

  11. Suero is on the Dominican Team Roster for the Centrobasket Tourney in Puerto Rico - June 18-24

Dominican Republic National Team is ready for Centrobasket 2012 in Puerto Rico from June 18-24. For this tournament Dominican Republic has the team completed and ready.

Dominican will have players like Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida), Francisco Garcia (201-F/G-81, college: Louisville), Eulis Baez (201-F-82, college: W.Illinois), Jack Michael Martinez (203-F/C-81, agency: Paris Global Sports), Josh Asselin (211-C/F-78, agency: Duran International, college: Michigan), Ronald Ramon (185-G-86, college: Pittsburgh), Gerardo Suero (193-G-89), Juan Coronado (196-G-83), Amaurys Fermin (191-PG-87, agency: Paris Global Sports), Karl-Anthony Towns (96), Manuel Guzman y Manuel Fortuna.

James Feldeine (193-G-88, college: Quinnipiac) wont be with the team because of Passport and naturalization issues. Edgar Sosa (188-PG-88, college: Louisville) wont be either because of lack of preparation, remember he is coming from an injury. He could be with the team later.

Dominican Republic will be seeking to win the tournament in Puerto Rico as preparation to the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
