  1. Dallas Ennema SR Sheldon 12 160 88 55.0 31 14 45.2 51 43 84.3 233 19.4

In 12 games Ennema is scoring 19ppg and is shooting 55% from the floor, 45% from three and a very solid 84% from the Free Throw line (and that's with 51 attempts). He missed a couple of his games early in the season due to injury

Could be an interesting player. I have seen him listed at 6'5" or 6"6". He could be an interesting player especially since he was described (in style) as being like Brian Lillis. If he has half the tenacity and wrecklessness as Lillis we might have a real good one????????

  2. Hawks Fizzle In Second Half, Fall To Albany, 56-46

By MIKE ANTHONY, The Hartford Courant

    10:14 p.m. EST, January 19, 2013

    WEST HARTFORD ——

In a recent loss at Stony Brook, the Hartford men's basketball team was particularly ineffective early. In a more recent — and more disappointing —loss at Maryland-Baltimore County, the Hawks were even worse, missing their first 19 shots.

So with that in mind, coach John Gallagher spent the last couple of days stressing the importance of starting strong Saturday at home against Albany.

The Hawks were sharp from the tip, taking a five-point lead to halftime. But the lull came in the second half.

Hartford made just four field goals after halftime and lost to Albany 56-46 in an America East game before 1,996 at Chase Family Arena. Yolonzo Moore had 18 points, but just one in the second half as Albany raised its level of play and Hartford did not.

"First half, I thought we did what we wanted to do," Gallagher said. "We got some great looks. They have four seniors on that team with tremendous experience. They came out and amped up their game plan and we did not respond like we need to."

Hartford (10-9, 3-3) has lost three in a row. Led by Peter Hooley's 18 points and 12 rebounds, Albany (16-4, 5-1) remained one of three conference teams with just one loss (Vermont, Stony Brook). The Great Danes shot just 34.5 percent but had important advantages in rebounding and free throws.

Second-half defense was the key. Albany stopped worrying so much about Mark Nwakamma, never double-teaming him and focusing their attention on the perimeter.

"We didn't want to double him because we didn't want to give up the three-ball," Albany coach Will Brown said. "As long as we got shots offensively, we didn't think they could make enough twos to beat us. We knew they could make enough threes to beat us. … In the first half, they were just in another gear and we were a step slow. We did just enough to keep ourselves in striking distance at halftime. And then I think the Albany team that's been playing most of the year showed up."

Nwakamma had 12 of Hartford's 14 second-half points. The Hawks were 4-for-20 from the field, 1-for-9 on threes in the second.

"The game got to a slower pace [in the second] and we just couldn't hit shots," Moore said. "I think we got good shots, but we want great shots."

Albany has won four in a row in the series and four in a row overall. Hartford has lost three in a row for the first time this season. Gallagher talked about this being a teachable moment, particularly for Nwakamma, who was 5-for-14.

"This isn't a negative," Gallagher said. "We took a step. The result is not the right thing, but you've got to realize that we came off the worst result since I took over here [the loss at UMBC]. When they amp it up, we know we have to take that step."

  3. .....This was a game that a team worth their salt would win.

A little close for comfort, but whatever...... uofalbany

Exactly correct - the comfort zone might have been a factor of the two Aussies shooting 5 of 22 ( they were still big contributors). It is actually nice to see two UA players not named Black or Iati combine for 20+ shots in a game. It shows team balance.

Nice to see Metcalf go for 7 & 6 in 21 productive minutes

  4. UA has had three different players recognized as POW this season.

Big Men Rowley, Warney Pace Teams to Wins, Earn Men's Hoops Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Forwards from the two teams with the best overall records in America East are this week's men's basketball weekly award winners. The honorees for the week ending January 13 were announced Monday afternoon.

University at Albany's Sam Rowley averaged a double-double last week and led his Great Danes to two win as he earned Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career. Stony Brook University's Jameel Warney took home his sixth Rookie of the Week award, by leading Seawolves to two wins.

Rowley (Sydney, Australia) made the most of his first two career starts last week as he averaged 15.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and shot 72 percent from the field en route to earned top player honors. The sophomore forward, the third different Great Dane to take home Player of the Week honors this season (Mike Black, Jacob Iati), scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting and added a career-best 13 boards while dishing out four assists in a win at Binghamton Monday. He then had 10 points and another 13 boards in a win over Maine Saturday. In the first four conference games this season, Rowley is averaging a double-double with 11.8 points and 10.0 rebounds a game. He had helped the Great Danes get off to its best 18-game start (14-4) as a Division I program

Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) averaged 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks and led Stony Brook in scoring last week as it won both games and improved to a program-best 12-4. The freshman big man, who has already earned six Rookie of the Week honors this year, started his week by scoring 13 points to go with eight rebounds in a win at Binghamton Wednesday. He then had a team-high 17 points and six boards in a win over Hartford Saturday.

  5. ALBANY, N.Y. - One of the stories last year for the University at Albany men's basketball was the addition of two Australian players, Peter Hooley and Sam Rowley, to add with already existing Australian native Luke Devlin on the Great Dane roster. The injuries to Hooley four games into the season and Devlin later on in the 2011-12 season never allowed all three players to co-exist on the floor.

With all three Aussies healthy to begin the 2012-13 season, the Great Danes are 13-4 and have got significant help from all three. To learn a little more about each Aussie, tune into YNN (Channel 8 or 1808 on Time Warner Cable) on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 5:43 p.m.

  6. Some of you guys really amaze me.

I believe Coaches work long hard hours.

I also believe players play because they win time in practice (which of course we don't see).

The Coaches know we just played a terrible game and the players know it too.

Neither wanted it to happen but "Siena" happens.

Lets hope it was an abberation and we can recover from it.

It amazes me how so called loyal fans can put players down and kick them to the curb.

The players are trying to play the best they can.

If you're unhappy at 12-4 blame the coaches don't rip the players.

At the start of the season I for one would have gladly accepted 12-4 by Jan 6th with a BCS win and a win over $iena.

  7. We've played 16 games won 12 and lost 4 - 2 of those losses on the last play of games.

Today we got busted in the mouth and didn't respond and that's upsetting!!!

But lets realize in the 4 games previous to this one we gave up 218pts for a 54.5 pg avg.

Hell Ohio St which is pretty damn good just got smacked by a good Illinois team by 19 scoring 55 pts on the road.

    Lets see how UA responds.

  8. I still wish the big guys could add more to the offensive game - Underpar

Did you see the 1st half in the 1st 10 minutes the danes Bigs missed 5 or 6 shots within 5 foot and if we converted the game would have been over by the half.

The opportunities are there - the bigs just have to do a better job converting.

With that said Metcalf, Puk and Rowley gave us 14pts and 19 boards (which is solid) but went 6 of 15 from the floor (all but 1 shot inside 5 ") and 2 of 6 from the FT line. When they convert better, we will have more balance.

Black and Iati combined shot 8 of 17 so I think UA has more offensive balance then people think - what we need now is more offensive efficiency from the bigs .

    Iati & Black 17 shots 32 pts

    Metcalf, Puk & Rowley 15 shots 14pts.

  9. Too bad we didn't put on a better show in the first half. - UAAlum72

I believe that's why you play two halves.

Great to be 11-3 but we must realize we very well could be 6-8 or even possibly 13-1.

It's not as easy to win at the DI level as many people think - check the $iena board!

  10. The "Bigs have to start helping themselves - they combined to go 1-7 from the FT line while the rest of the team was 18 of 21.

It appears last night the Danes went with a more productive smaller lineup to match up with Navy's size. Devlin had a break out game and Rowley was solid ( combine 20 pts & 13 rebs in 47 min).

Solid win considering 4 starters were ineffective.

9 players played double digit minutes with solid contributions from the aforementioned Luke Devlin and also Chris Page

  11. Sheldon wins again...
