Lady Danes keep movin' on up!

Recommended Posts

The Volleyball team has moved on up, not to the East Side, but to a lofty No. 55 ranking (74 in the Pablo Ranking). That puts the ladies in the top 20% of all Volleyball programs.

Keep it up ladies....you are making the school proud!

They remain third in the regional rankings but have closed the gap considerably. Northeastern has jumped over a couple of Big East teams to move to 4th. The Danes are edging closer and closer-Pittsburgh better watch it's back for the second spot.

Northeast Region (Overall RKPI)

1. Notre Dame (23)

2. Pittsburgh (40)

3. Albany (55)

4. Northeastern (75)

5. American (84)

6. Xavier (85)

7. Connecticut (88)

8. Rutgers (92)

9. Syracuse (96)

10. St. John's (99)

11. Dayton (102)

12. Boston College (105)

13. Cornell (128)

14. Penn (130)

15. Georgetown (131)

It's amazing what this team has accomplished so far this year! School records have been broken, conference records have been broken, NCAA records have been broken! What a shame UA media realtions doesn't show much support - and what a shame the stands aren't filled at each home match.

I'm as much a football and basketball fan as the next person, but people, wake up! This is the team that is putting UAlbany on the map! The volleyball team is ranked higher nationally than any other Danes team in history. Look what this coach has done in only 4 years.

There are two more home matches this weekend. Saturday is senior night. Let's show Dombroski & Spierre how much they are appreciated for their hard work and dedication these past 4 years. Let's show more support! The conference tournament will probably be hosted here. We need to be in the stands and give this team the respect they deserve.

I, too, have attended a number of home matches. These ladies can flat out play. They have completely dominated a number of opponents - they are really fun to watch. You need to see them to believe them. Many players on the men's and women's basketball teams are also at these matches to lend their support.

Agree that there's a fun environment in the old gym this year. The #1 seed hosts the tourney so lets hope the Danes can close out the regular season and become the first team since Hofstra to go undefeated in the conference.

If they do the tournament and the first basketball game will be on the same Friday, Nov. 19. Hopefully they get a night game so more of us can attend.

You know that you spend too much time on this board when you start watching volleyball games (tape delayed) on Fox College Sports - I was surprised it lasted two hours. Saw Cal play USC - USC is pretty good.

Anyway, I don't know much about the Volleyball tournament. If UA loses in the AE tournament can they still get an at large bid to he tournament? If that is allowed you'd think they have a pretty good chance given their winning streak. Let's hope it doesn't come down to that.

Probably not. Just like hoops, with 30-odd conferences, Albany would have to rank about 40 or better for an at-large bid, especially as an eastern school. First two rounds are on campus sites. Last year New Hampshire traveled to #1 So Cal.

Regionals are in Louisville, Minneapolis, Green Bay, and Seattle. Final 4 at Long Beach.

A loss to someone in the conference would kill the ranking especially since no one else is ranked very high.

Hopefully it doesn't come down to that. Albany's hosting the tourney so we should provide an exciting environment and close the deal.
