In the T-U, Brown said Dyson is 'doing OK (in school) but not to my liking'.

I didn't know, or had forgotten, that according to the Gazette, Albany was the only other D-I school to offer a scholarship to Taylor Coppenrath - another sign this staff knows how to spot talent.

No mention of the specifics with Dyson but I have to say I like how Brown is doing this. Not letting guys slide by academically. I'm curious how this works though. Does Dyson get this year of eligibility back or is it lost because he's already played a couple games?

I think redshirting Dyson is a great idea. Not sure about the reasons but clearly he is not going to contribute much this year - in addition to the academic benefits, it gives him a chance to improve his basketball skills.

I think they should redshirt Bauman as well. My only thought is that he is an insurance policy in case Iati and Lillis cannot return. Doesn't appear like he will play much this year either. I know he doesn't want to redshirt based on some comments while he was being recruited.

I think in hindsight a lot of these kids would want to redshirt as it significantly improves their chance to graduate with their scholarship. I say hindsight because kids probably don't think about that while they are in school.

I'm sure most kids don't want to redshirt but most of these kids should realize that if they take care of their undergrad work in 4 years, it's a great way to get your Master's started or completely paid for.

A redshirt year is financially a great deal, with that said I know most kids think of "now" and they all feel they can contribute "now".
