Jamar

There will be many people who will promote Adeleke of Hartford as AE Player of the Year but it will be an abomination if Jamar Wilson isn't chosen. Yes, Adeleke has the stats but I haven't seen anyone take over a game the way Jamar has so often this year, especially in the second half when the game is still in doubt. Last night's game was a case in point. With Maine coming back to take the lead with just under 8 min. to go, it was Jamar time. He literally took over the game and ensured a UA victory. For impartial views of what happened, go to the AE Board and read the comments of UMaine fans.

Could not agree more. And with the game on the line, there is no one else in this league you would want to have the ball. He can score in every way imaginable. He has also cut down the TO's in conference play.

His numbers are great too. He may be the leading scorer when its all said and done. He averages over 5 boards out of the guard position. 4 assists. 85% free throw shooter. 1.4 steals/game.

Adeleke is a great talent, but Jamar is a great talent and wins games.

I'm a biased Danes fan also but I remember this from last year on the women's side. Danielle Hutcheson had better stats than Kim Corbitt but Corbitt won the POY. The argument at the time was that her team won the conference and Albany was tied for fourth.

You can certainly draw some parallels there between Jamar and Adeleke although their numbers are actually closer than Corbitts and Hutch's were.

In today's Gazette Jamar attributes his extra energy to his switch from the point to shooting guard.

Will Brown says 'He's the player of the year in this league, no question about it'.

'His turnovers are way down, and everything else is way up'.

Dave Weekley and Mark Wise will do the play-by-play on ESPNU (not that I'll be able to hear them at the Pub Friday night).

Sherri Mikus has 100 career assists. Gia Sanders with 46 blocks this year is up to third at Albany, her 52 are eighth on the all-time career list.
