Albany Wins Softball Championship- NCAA BOUND!!!!

Recommended Posts

Wow, another season and another title. Congrats to Coach C and the rest of the ladies! A wonderful sweep by the girls, highlighted by today's comeback from a 4-3 deficit in the fifth. Halloran kept it together when UMBC dinged her up a bit. Meagan Butsch with the HUGE offensive output (4 RBI's).

Now...waiting time for our location for the regionals.

Seriously folks, we are 7 years into DI and we have had just a ridiculous run in multiple sports in both the AE and the NCAA's. Who would have thought it?

Again, HUGE CONGRATS TO THE DANES!!!

Wish I could have made it over to the field...but had to work today! Hope the ladies are living it up behind Star Market!!!

just so everyone is aware...THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A REBUILDING SEASON FOR THE TEAM!!

does anyone think this title gives UA the Commish Cup? I mean 6 tournaments (MLAX, WLAX, SOFTBALL, W GOLF, M&W TRACK AND FIELD), 3 finals appearences (MLAX, WLAX, SOFTBALL), 4 championships (MLAX, SOFTBALL, M&W TRACK AND FIELD) this spring.

Not sure what the current standings are, but here are the standings from the America East homepage after this winter season:

BOSTON – Boston University extended its lead to 29 points in the 2006-07 America East’s Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup standings after a successful winter season. The Commissioner’s Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and at championship competition in the conference’s 22 sports. Full Standings

Boston University jumps to 242 points on the season, just ahead of second-place University of Vermont which has 213 points. University at Albany rose to third place in the standings with 205 points. Binghamton University has 202 points for fourth place, followed by University of New Hampshire (186), University of Maine (174), UMBC (163), Stony Brook University (144) and University of Hartford (139). . . . .

This is how the Commissioner's Cup apparently scores the schools:

The scoring system for the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner’s Cup is as follows: In sports where regular-season round robin competition is conducted, the first-place institution in the final standings receives four points times the total number of teams involved in conference play. The second-place institution receives four less points; third place receives eight less points, and so on. Additionally, the America East (tournament) champion receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place receives four less points and so on down to the last-place institution which receives two points.

In sports where regular-season round robin competition is not conducted (cross country, golf, tennis, track and field, swimming and diving), the first-place institution at the America East championship receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place gets four less points and so on down to the last place team which receives two points.

TV-13 news said the team bus broke down in Lee, MA on the way back, the replacement bus had an accident on its way to get them, and the third bus didn't get home until 10 pm. Good thing they were coming home winners. I hope Coach C knows how to make an entrance to the lax game tomorrow, carrying the trophy aloft. They deserve the applause of 2,000+ Great Dane fans.

It seems they got hit pretty hard but 4 unearned runs hurts.

I believe they had two on with 1 out in the Top of the 7th.

It seems they could have been fairly competitive.

Lets see if we can win the next one!!!
