DP - can we make this a sticky?

This offseason should be interesting with the number of solid players open for transfer from Northeastern and Hofstra. Those players would be eligible right away under an NCAA exemption.

The first word is of Andrew Smith. laugh.gif No, our crown jewel is safe. This ia a different Andrew Smith.

Scout.com reporting that we've offered Will Fiacchi....QB from Marcellus HS.

6'1"

212 lbs.

2 star rating from Scout.

Fiacchi shows a lot of potential and the only concern with him is his level of competition. He shows poise in the pocket and feels the rush, moving up or outside and making good decisions with the ball. He throws well on the run and is generally accurate on all his throws, leading receivers. While he doesn't have the strongest arm, he puts good velocity on his passes. He is not afraid to go deep and can make all the throws. – Matt Alkire

Also being recruited by BC, Maryland, Northwestern and Syracuse.

He currently has the NYS single game record with 519 yards passing.

He's also a Coach's son....which is a benefit as a QB.

This article says he has an offer from Fordham as well...

Derek Cole is another one from Scout although this one doesn't say we've offered.

http://hsnewyork.scout.com/a.z?s=403&p=8&c=1&nid=4651288

RB from Mineola HS.

He was selected to play in the Offense-Defense all-star game but it looks like he may have gotten hurt in practice leading up to it.

NJ recruits from Scout

Dillon Romain

RB/Safety - 1 star

6'0", 210lb

Don Bosco Prep last year and Blair Academy this year.

He was the Gatorade NJ Player of the Year last year.

We have offered him and so has Missouri State, Monmouth and Portland State.

He's getting interest from Tulane, Akron, UConn, Delaware, Pitt, Rutgers and Toledo.

Articles also say that Tulane is coming on strong and BYU is interested. Rutgers offered a preferred walk-on again this year, but he turned it down last year so its unlikely he'll take that this year.

He's also from the same town as Justin Gannon (Vernon NJ) so maybe that will help us?

An interesting note is that we apparently offered him last year too and he turned it down hoping his time at Blair Academy would turn into FBS offers. He was just named Prep Player of the Year this year.

Google this kid. He's legit. I'd be surprised if we got him, but if we did it could mean some time for Drew Smith at QB.

Fella let' be real Andrew Smith is by far the best impact player on the team . But he is not a every down QB . Have any of you guys watched any pratices ? What he did under center in high school does not translate to this offense . We would have to change the whole deal . Have any of you seen him throw during practice.. Will Fiacci has pretty much commited as we are his only offer{i know that for a fact} Dont believe what you read on scouting services . He is from a b school and i wouldt get my hopes up very average arm and so so feet. Dillion Romain already commited after his visit just before xmas thats a given . He will be a promising player but may need some time. His only other offer is monmouth{also a fact}.Look at the prep school league he played in . we must put things in perspective when looking at these guys

1. I never said Smith would be an every down QB. The kid has an arm and could do some serious damage under center (or out of the gun) in certain situations, assuming we have a RB that can come in the game.

2. Are you telling me what Romain did in (a) the best HS football program in the NATION and (b ) the same prep school that just produced the FBS freshman of the year, needs some kind of relative thinking?

Romain would be, by far, the most accomplished recruit we've ever gotten. With one year of prep under his belt he should be ready to play tomorrow.

And while I agree that Scout.com isn't the greatest for FCS recruiting, right now its the only thing we have to rely on.

Danefan i am sorry you take me the wrong way , i am just giving my opinion . I have the luxury of watching many high school game around the state as i travel alot within the state..Will is a good player who had the luxury of having his father as the oc . His father was a head coach at i believe Canastota high before he left to coach his son .. All they did was throw the ball and ran up numbers , I think he will be a good college player but is not quite there yet. As for Dillon He will also be a good player , what high school he went to does not relate to how he will fit in our system not every player from elite high school are big time player . Its alot about the system and team mates. I again go to alot of practices as i am a football nut ,I think we will be better next year than most think. The spring is going to be very interesting

Thanks for clarifying FMDane. I did initially think you were getting after me a bit.

I appreciate your insight and quite frankly it is part of the reason we're still talking about UA football in January.

BTW, I am starting to think we will be pretty good next year as well. I'm trying to keep my expectatioms tempered though, knowing that we'll be starting a new QB and will have to replace a good deal on Defense. The Hofstra transfer LB is a good start though.

Seems as though our recruiting efforts pay off bigger and better each year now.......

Not with much help from 2 other factors involved. Hopefully, that will be changing.

My New Years Wish - We get word that shovels will be hitting the ground in early spring! Then we'll be talking football in January!
