Suero on Dominican Republic National Team

Recommended Posts

Saw that Suero's listed on the roster for the DR National Team. The team's being coached by Kentucky's John Calipari and is at the Wildcats' campus this month in prep for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in early July in Venezuela.

Suero's on the team with NBAers Charlie Villanueva, Francisco Garcia and Al Harford.

Also his draft profile on ESPN.

Also from ESON Desportes:

"Gerardo Suero, G, Jr., Albany

Suero averaged 21.5 ppg as a junior. The Dominican Republic native had to fight for three years to get eligible to play, and when he did, he was a star. He has an outside chance as a second-round pick."

Chad Ford ranks Suero as the 89th best player available for what it's worth. 20 some spots from the second round but a bigger part of the conversation than any other player we've ever had ***

***Until Megan Craig is drafted #1 by the WNBA.

Evidently Suero made the last cut down to a team of 15 and will hopefully play tonight in an exhibition game in Kentucky

Dominican Republic NT 15-Man Roster:

- Al Horford

- Jack Michael Martínez

- Francisco García

- Edgar Sosa

- Eulis Báez

- Ronald Ramón

- Juan Coronado

- Manuel Fortuna

- Manuel Guzmán

- Eloy Vargas

- Karl Towns Jr

- James Feldeine

- Josh Asselin

- Gerardo Suero

- Jon Horford

I believe the team still must get cut down to 12???

Karl Towns Scouting Report: D.R. National Team Game

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just saw Karl Towns play up close and personal at the Dominican Republic National Team exhibition game at Northern Kentucky University coached by Cal and staff.

He played some good minutes and for a 16 year old, listed at 6-11, he impressed. Probably will grow a few inches more, and he listens very intently to everything Coach Cal had to say to him while on the court. Raw, yes, but has alot of potential. Only 16!! I believe.

Al Horford and Francisco Garcia will carry the team along with a kid named Gerardo Suero who dropped in 22. Edgar Sosa looked good but may have gotten injured alittle.

Eloy Vargas didn't impress at all. Had a few moments, just like his last 2 seasons at UK.

Will be an uphill battle for this team as they had to go to overtime (2 minutes long) to beat Team Ignition.

Thanks Coach Cal for bringing them to our area, along with the NCAA Championship Trophy, FINALLY!!!

Wished there could have been more in attendance, but there was a lack of publicity.

Sat three rows behind the bench area and it was great hearing Coach Cal's comments. Closest I'll ever get to the bench, lol.

Maybe he'll get some local press. I tweeted the TU and Tim Wilkin asking if a story would be run and the TU tweeted me back and said they'd pass the suggestion onto Tim. Sad that fans have to get the local paper to write stories....

Dominican Republic National Team is ready for Centrobasket 2012 in Puerto Rico from June 18-24. For this tournament Dominican Republic has the team completed and ready.

Dominican will have players like Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida), Francisco Garcia (201-F/G-81, college: Louisville), Eulis Baez (201-F-82, college: W.Illinois), Jack Michael Martinez (203-F/C-81, agency: Paris Global Sports), Josh Asselin (211-C/F-78, agency: Duran International, college: Michigan), Ronald Ramon (185-G-86, college: Pittsburgh), Gerardo Suero (193-G-89), Juan Coronado (196-G-83), Amaurys Fermin (191-PG-87, agency: Paris Global Sports), Karl-Anthony Towns (96), Manuel Guzman y Manuel Fortuna.

James Feldeine (193-G-88, college: Quinnipiac) wont be with the team because of Passport and naturalization issues. Edgar Sosa (188-PG-88, college: Louisville) wont be either because of lack of preparation, remember he is coming from an injury. He could be with the team later.

Dominican Republic will be seeking to win the tournament in Puerto Rico as preparation to the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Read on the Siena board that Edwin Ubiles and Alex Franklin will be competing for Puerto Rico in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. If Suero makes it we could have an Albany - Siena international edition game in Caracas next month.
