MBB & Coaches Cure CF Fundraiser (next 3 home games)

Recommended Posts

GDG and I have been working with various UAlbany staff members to set up a fundraiser during the next three men's games which will culminate on Feb 15th with the Coaches Cure CF Game. In order to get as many bidding opportunities on the silent auction items, they will be available to bid on over the next three home games. Bidding will end at the end of halftime on Feb 15th. All proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Northeastern NY Chapter.

If there is anyone you know who may not normally come to a basketball game but you think may be interested in bidding on one of these items, please spread the news. Let's get more people to the game and help donate!:)

Fundraising opportunities will include a silent auction and 50/50 raffle!

The Silent Auction will begin at the Ferocious Feast on February 1st, continue during the Men’s Basketball game against UMass-Lowell on Wednesday, February 5th and conclude at the end of half time of the Coaches Cure CF Men’s Basketball Awareness game against Maine on February 15th.

Silent Auction Items Include:

  • Camp Dippikill Weekend Stay Certificate and Dippikill merchandise gift basket http://www.dippikill.com/
  • Chipper Jones Autographed 8x10 Picture (long time supporter of finding a cure for CF)
  • UAlbany Men’s Basketball 2014-15 Season Tickets (2), Signed Team Basketball, 2 Basketball Hats, Bob Ford Bobblehead, University Bookstore Gift Certificate
  • Ping Putter and 12 Taylormade golf balls from Western Turnpike Golf Course
  • Brew and Distill Package – Albany Distilling Co. taste-testing for 2, Albany Distilling Co. Quackenbush Still House rum, 2 Albany Distilling Co. rocks glasses, 2 tickets to 2014 Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Capital Sip beer tasting event, Albany
  • Saratoga ‘Day at the Races’ Package – Access for 4 to West Point Thoroughbreds Owner’s Box, Backstretch tour and West Point Thoroughbreds gift basket

Coaches Cure CF http://www.coachescurecf.org/

Coaches Cure CF was started in 2011 by Kevin Willard, Head Coach of the Seton Hall Pirates Men’s Basketball Team, and Pat Lyons, Athletic Director of Seton Hall in conjunction with the Tarletsky family. It was created to bring awareness of Cystic Fibrosis to the college basketball community in a similar manner to that which Coaches vs. Cancer has achieved for cancer. To date Seton Hall, Iona and Providence have participated in Coaches Cure CF. All funds raised benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Thanks to all that put in bids during the BPG. The plan is to have a table at tomorrow's MBB game (assuming the game is played) and we can get all the items to the arena in the snow. The items will also be at the Coaches Cure CF Game on the 15th.

We have a few additions to the silent auction that came after the BPG. This includes a signed photo of Jimmer Fredette and Jamar Wilson sent along a package of items including signed jerseys, signed hat, etc.

For those who were not the BPG, I plan to post some pictures of the items on here later tonight as well as where the current bid is at. The auction ends on 2/15 at the end of half time. Winner doesn't have to be present but must arrange pick up etc. If you are interested in anything, but are unable to attend the next two home games, shoot me a message on here and we can figure out if there is a way to write down a bid for you, etc.

Again, thanks to all who have bid or may be interested.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you to all that came to the game, donated towards the 50/50 or bid on the auction items. It was a great success raising almost $5K. It was almost a 100% volunteer effort so it was great that we made that much money for the cause. Thanks again!

Are they still raising money by wearing these sweatsuits? I'm a little confused because they said they are wearing it to support the cause and raise awareness.

Do the sweatsuits say something about CF on it?

No they are not raising money by wearing the sweatsuits. They are wearing the pins but they are hard to see in interviews. However, the exposure by having the radio, ESPN3 announcers mention the cause does "raise awareness" of the event and gets people to talk about the disease. So although it is not a monetary gain, it's more of an exposure for the event and fight against the disease.

As an aside Iona wore them (track suits) during their run at the end of the season after their event..and into the NCAA. It gave great national exposure, again not monetary, but still positive.
