"UAlbany loses out in basketball photo finish"

Great letter from Dane Nation. Way to stand up and be heard!!!

Man... I feel UAlbany is under siege. Do we have any supporters left in higher government? At least Pataki never tried to kill UA.

I just keep going over these quotes and and I can't figure out which one sounds worse. Being a big college football fan and this being a sports board, I think this is the killer, especially when UA has a 1960's rusted out high school field.

The dagger to a UA Football Fan:

Spitzer said to UB President Simpson: "we'll give you a football team that will compete nationally as well"

Quotes:

UB Reporter Vol 39, #21

"He (UB President Simpson) reported that

he met recently in New York City with the president of

Stony Brook University to discuss ways the two

designated flagship SUNY institutions can work

together toward common goals."

Buffalo Business First 2/13

Governor Spitzer said "Just as you need superstars on a team, you need

flagships that define the system," he said.

UB Reporter 2/14

By recognizing UB as a flagship campus for the SUNY

system and endorsing the UB 2020 vision of excellence,

Gov. Spitzer has strongly reinforced the leadership

role that UB’s growth and success will play in our

region and state,” Simpson said."

Newday 2/5

Senator LaValle of Long Island "The idea of a law school for Stony Brook University

is just a baby concept, but if it matures quickly into

reality, it would add immensely to Stony Brook's drive

to become a comprehensive university, a downstate SUNY

flagship."

Governor's Speech in Buffalo

"I will add a notion that sometimes around the state

does not get enormous applause, but it better had

here, and that is the notion of flagships."

/Applause, Spitzer turns to President Simpson:

Governor Spitzer: "Yeah, ok, John, you'd better lead this one [this

outpouring of support]. Flagships, just as you need

superstars on a team, within the SUNY system you need

flagships that define the entire system. We need those

flagships that say to the rest of the nation, "Here we

are, we are preeminent, we are the best." And we're

going to do that."

What came next was pure ad-libbing from the gov. as he

turned toward Simpson again,

"And, I would measure, you know, bet pretty well, if

we have 40 thousand students, we'll give you a

football team that will compete nationally as well."

Come on ATL Dane, you've already created enough numerous threads with your anti-NYS rants, so please at least keep them in there. I come on here to read things related to UAlbany sports first and those issues connected to UAlbany/SUNY as a whole second, when I have the time.

Please at least leave UAlbany sports threads as UAlbany sports threads.

Despite being a Siena fan and enjoying the coverage the TU provides, I have have to agree with Ellen on this one. A picture from that game should have been provided if there was one available. There is no reason why the TU can't provide equally great coverage of both programs. Especially during this time of the year.

The TU is not exactly known for great coverage. They are known for cutting corners and spending money on naming our minor league hockey teams arena rather than adequate coverage. There was better coverage from the Des Moines Register in December on the Danes vs Iowa State than a typical game in the TU.
