  1. Once again, Dane Zone doesn't work. There is also nothing being broadcast on WCDB. I'm so tiried of this crappy service. The occasional fan isn't going to struggle with such crappy service to watch Albany. They need to fix this. Totally ridiculous. I'm paying money for this lack of service.
  2. Dunkin Donuts is no small operation. It has a higher annual revenue than UAlbany. This is far from an "absurd" parallel. Back to my points though: One is that the media doesn't cover crime victims fairly. An 18 year old shot and killed will be covered very differently if he/she is in a college versus not. One's college status should not make you more or less of a victim. A non-college student is not treated with the same shock as a college student... even if the college student is older than the non-college student. 18 year old Dunkin Donut employee versus 26 year old college "kid". Two, we all belong to many organizations. Why does the media focus on the person's college organization and status? That same person may be a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church. The media doesn't report that a church member was shot. It says a college student was shot. We don't hold the church responsible for his/her safety. Is it not sad that a church member was victimized? How many organizations do we all have affliations: employer, church, municipality, social organizations etc. Three is that your fooling yourself to think that a college can prevent crime off campus after hours. If a college could save us from harm than every soldier going to Afghanistan should first enroll at UAlbany. UAlbany can keep them safe overseas? http://news.dunkindonuts.com/dunkin+brands/dunkin+brands+about/ For the full-year 2011, the company had franchisee-reported sales of approximately $8.3 billion."
  3. UAlbany cannot solve the City of Albany's ills. It is a fools errand. UAlbany students are adults. They are not children. They are old enough to fight and kill in Afghanastan. If the TU wants to list UAlbany everytime there is an off campus crime then they should also list the employer of crime victims outside of work. For example, Dunkin Donuts employee robbed in the parking lot of the Albany City Library. (supposition, Dunkin Donuts is a terrible employer for not protecting their employee during their free time). Why isn't Dunkin Donuts solving the crime issue? Is the 18 year old Donut employee (man) less valuable than the 26 year old college "kid"?
  4. Another year, another student shot. This is ridiculous! Maybe they should have kept the student ghetto revitalization plan in place: http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/UAlbany-Student-hurt-in-off-campus-shooting-3895681.php I don't see anything in our crime rates that stand out. Georgia Tech had a rash of off campus attacks. That's just Atlanta. GT students are not immune. These sorts of things happen in any city. You can't tell me that Miami, Cleveland or NYC is any ssfer. The university can't protect students when they go off campus nor should they try. All are over 18 and are adults. It's no more tragic or news worthy in my mind when a NYU, Albany or GT student gets attacked versus an 18 year old working at McDonalds. The 18 year old at McDonalds doesn't make news. These stories just serve to make the university look bad concerning a situation they have no control. Not news.
  5. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/bruce-feldman/20377750/top-punter-on-market-looking-to-make-move-up-to-major-college-football-in-2013
  6. Is there any talk of ripping up some of those huge, massive parking lots and replacing them with some sensible parking decks? It's funny to see Georgia Tech and UCSD with parking decks... Albany has terrible snowy weather and could use some covered parking. Building verticle could free up a lot of space on campus. Driving around the ring road all you see is a series of parking lots... sorry, a personal pet peeve of mine. It's interesting to see the book end approach to their design. I would assume there is a pass through via the Life Science Building?
  7. Thanks for posting the video and providing some context about the site location UAalum72. As far as how this is all interconnected, I'm not quite sold yet. I'm very positive on the project but I don't see what ties it all together. My wife is a neuroscientist at the Salk Institute in La Jolla. It's a world renowned institution founded by Jonas Salk who cured polio. Salk is focused on biological sciences. San Diego is known for its biotechnology. Noticed I said biotechnology and not a laundry list of loosely related or not related science and engineering areas. I'm not sure how cyber security is at all related to biological research. You can make an arguement that it's a future technology but it's not related. Nonetheless, I'm obviously a huge supporter of the university. I hope they thought it out well.
  8. Are there any video links such as news broadcasts? They mentioned a new large building new Life Sciences. Is there room for a new building over there? Would we get some land from the Harriman Campus. I just don't recall a lot of space over there. I love the technology focus but it seems to by a hodge podge of sciences from atmospheric, cycber security, biotech. Diversity is good but it can also lead to a lack of focus. Better to be good at one thing than medicore at many things. Nanotech over general engineering is a perfect example. Why not focus soley on Biotech for this new push?
  9. The team we lost to by 1 score beat a BCS team that beat a ranked BCS team. Stony Brook lost by a larger margin to a team that hasnt even beaten any FBS teams. Winless. Zero. Youngstown State has a much better record against FBS then Syracuse does.
  10. Something is not right. UA plays the 5th ranked FCS in the country and losses by a better margin than Pitt. By the way, Pitt beat up on a ranked Virginia Tech this weekend. That is at least as good of a performance as Stony Brook's loss to unranked Syracuse.
  11. What's going on with the WCDB broadcast? It just cut out. How amateurish. What's with this halftime crew?
  12. To be clear my question is asking can we get to 24,000 as designed without a lot of rework or added costs. I understand anything is posible with enough money and time. The question is about the current design.
  13. I asked before but never got an answer, did we make concessions to the stadium design to get this phase up now? Can we still build out to 24,000 seats or did we cut corners so this would no longer be possible? Conceptional design versus actual design. I'm not criticizng just curious. I noticed on Wikipedia someone greatly reduced the stadium's possible expansion size. Is it really capped at 15,000? Is the actual design so far off the conceptual design? ------------------------------------- Bob Ford Field and move to CAA On April 17, 2012, the university broke ground on a new multi-sport complex that would be available for use beginning in Fall 2013. Along with a complex that will be the new home for football and soccer, a new track will be created on the current football field, University Field. The plans to build the stadium were revealed in the summer of 2011. The new stadium, which the field will be named Bob Ford Field, will hold initially 6,000. However, the stadium will be built so future expansion can take place upwards to 10,000 to 15,000. It was announced on August 7, 2012 that beginning in 2013, the football program would accept an increase in scholarships and move out of the Northeast Conference and into the Colonial Athletic Association. Stony Brook, a former Northeast Conference rival, would also be making the move with them.
  14. Looks like their stadium is new. Very nice for D2. 10,000 seats http://halgibsonco.com/project_detail.php?id=7
  15. His almata mater's football stadium. Pretty nice considering it's DII. No need to post stadiums for Georgia, Minnesota or Missouri. We all know what a SEC or Big 10 stadium looks like... 'large' comes to mind. http://www.fvsusports.com/sports/2012/6/28/Athletics%20Facilities.aspx?tab=athleticfacilities
  16. I would have loved to keep President Phillip. I thought he was great. I can't speak for Dr. Robert J. Jones's academic background. We don't have much of crop science program at Albany. Like I said, I could be surprised and he'll be the one Southern man who attended UGA who hated the football team but somehow I doubt it. You see more college flags outside of homes on College Football Gameday then you see US flags. At both Cox and TBS in Atlanta, college football talk started Thursday went into Friday and then you talked about the results Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday may have been the one day of the week it wasn't discussed. He may have interests other than football but I find it hard to believe that despite our huge gains we're anything but sub par in his mind. Georgia high schools bring out 10,000 fans any given Friday...more than our flagship campus!
  17. Speaking from a purely athletics perspective, this is likely a good choice. Of course there are no guarantees. Maybe he'll be the Southern anti-athletics exception but I was formerly ATL_DANE and living in the South was eye opening in terms of college athletics. College sports are HUGE in the South. Some of that enthusiasm must have rubbed off on him. He's from Dawson Georgia. He attended UGA. He has primarily been at major state universities. By comparison, CAA football is going to look pretty small. I think anyone that complains to him about 1AA football being "big time" is going to get a puzzled look. You can't walk by Sanford Stadium everyday and think anything other than that Ford Field is pretty small. I'm cautiously optomistic that he's at least neutral to athletics. I think there is a better than even chance he'll look at UAlbany and wonder why we're not competing at a higher level. Why UMASS, UCONN, Rutgers but not UA?
  18. For our sake I hope their successful. Their failure at FBS would be used as a hammer against us if we ever tried to make the jump. I can already hear the malcontents complaining.
  19. My only point is ROI. We're playing a FCS team that is better than many FBS teams. Play the FBS team, pocket 500,000 and possibly have a more competitive game. Why work harder and get paid less?
  20. I have to admit I don't like this scheduling. It's lose/lose. No money/No publicity If we're going to play a team that can beat Pitt then I'd rather play Pitt and get the spotlight of playing a FBS team and $$$. I'm assuming we're not getting paid since their also FCS. If we were playing Pitt we'd get the great publicity of playing a Big East team and $500,000. How much did Maine or Savanannah State pocket this weekend?
  21. It looks like Stony Brook took our Cincinnati slot in 2014. I think we all agreed we wouldn't likely see a FBS game before 2015. I'm guessing scheduling negotiations wouldn't happen until the office season so maybe next Spring we could hear of something?
  22. I'm not looking past this year's NEC schedule but I am interested in the start of CAA football. Is there some place I can see Albany's future schedule? I found a number of sites but they all cater to FBS. What do we know about 2013, 2014 and 2015? Any FBS teams? Which CAA schools are likely to play in Albany? Is Delaware in that list?
  23. I'm not a fan of this change. Fox provided a level of professionalism. Being on Fox can also bring in the casual Fox listener. We totally miss that audience when we only broadcast via a college station. Missing that audience means we also miss the chance to grow the brand. I'm also fearful the quality will suffer. A college radio station will not have broad appeal nor the quality of a commercial radio station.
  24. I guess we all knew they would make that choice but nonetheless it feels good. A really good choice by them. I'm very happy for us as well. This CAA northern division is looking great. It really follows the successful model of what makes the SEC so good. Regional rivaries with other flagship universities. I hope we can build each other up, challenge each other to be better.
