  1. I liked Weiggman as well. For those that follow the women's team, he seems like a male version of Julie Forster and I mean that as a compliment to both players. Puk's one handed catch of a lob and slam was amazing. I really liked the more confident, aggressive version of Puk 3.0 Tough battle for minutes between a bunch of guys. From what I saw you could make an argument to start any of the three Juco guys. DJ Evans is as fun to watch as I'd hoped he'd be. It would be a small backcourt but matching him and Mike Black would be really entertaining. Pretty sure this is the first time Coach Brown has done the open practice thing and I liked it a lot. Between this and the meet and greet it was a terrific basketball weekend to get primed for Nov. 9th.
  2. From the Meet and Greet it sounds like Tanner Gibson's foot injury might be the serious one. They are waiting for MRI results to find out his status. M+G was a fun event and seemed well attended. No huge news that I remember. Both Metcalf and Jon Puk have lost 30 pounds over the summer. We also met our new walk-on, Reece Williams. I think is a guard from Woodlands HS but maybe someone else remembers better. Coach Brown alluded to the AE possibly adding two additonal teams in the future but didn't shed anymore light than that.
  3. The open week looks like it comes at a perfect time next week. Focus didn't seem %100 there the last two weeks and a couple guys looked a little banged up. Hopefully they can come back fresh and play with the hammer down the next four games on the regular season. CCSU beat the Dukes today for their first win of the year. Everyone in the conference has a loss now except us and Duquesne and Monmouth still have to play in a couple of weeks. Santillo says the crowd was 6,800 plus today. When I was walking toward the field today I was daydreaming about what Homecoming 2013 will look like. New stadium, CAA opponent...
  4. There's an interview with Blake Metcalf and a story on the Record Blog - http://therecordsports.blogspot.com/
  5. It is progress. I'm looking forward to 70s night to see Alum72 maybe do the Hustle while wearing the Great Dane Hat. One night I'd like to maybe add, "Smash the University Field seats with a sledgehammer night" after the final football game. $10 a pop for a shot with the hammer.
  6. Bam! Live Stats is showing we beat UNH tonight. Nice win over the other undefeated team. PO'ed that I couldn't make the match tonight.
  7. I had pretty high hopes for Hooley last year before he was injured. Seems like there will be a lot of competition for those SG and SF spots with Hooley, Paige, Guerrier, Gibson and Gary Johnson. BTW Duquense was picked 16th in the, um, Atlantic 10 (?) coaches poll. I hadn't realized until now that we will play Duquense in basketball on Friday night, then play them in football on Saturday.
  8. We needed to hold them and ended up pushing them back. Nice!
  9. Any talk of the scrimmage this year? It's usually Homecoming weekend but I think that's earlier than teams are allowed to practice this year.
  10. I have no information but I kinda hope it's Karonn Davis from Friends Central.
  11. doesn't like Stony Brook

  12. If we have the team we think we do we should end up where we want to be at the end. It would have been nice to grab a ranking the week before a big home game for first place in the conference though. Stony Brook may very well one of the top teams in FCS and might beat Army on Saturday but it's tough to make a case for them being ranked on what they've done this year. Home wins over CCSU and Colgate are the highlight so far.
  13. He sounds like a 6'7 small forward. From NBE With a couple exceptions it sounds like we're moving toward bigger perimeter players: Hooley, Lassen, Paige and now Ennema. I've been guessing this will be a four man recruiting class at least. With Matt Lassen, Levan Shengelia and Dallas Ennema all on board I'd have to guess we are looking at a point guard for the future with the last scholarship.
  14. Vermont always seems to have 5 guys that fit Shengalia's description every year to clog up the middle. Hopefully he'll provide an answer for that. I'm curious about his eligibility. Sounds like he red-shirted at URI his freshman year then played his second. Guessing he'll play a year at Odessa so that would leave him with two years left?
  15. In terms of getting to see more games that's a really good schedule. A weekend tournament in Springfield in November for two games and a weekend road game at Colgate and Siena are all pretty do-able. I'll leave the South Carolina State away game to the Road Warrior. Five years ago I'd look at this schedule and see a bunch of those NEC and think it's not that tough a schedule. Not anymore. Wagner and Quinnipiac should be pretty good, Wagner especially.
  16. Opened the season in Hawaii with three losses against some tough teams. We put Viktoriia Stroilo on the all-tourney team. Weird thing is, she's not on the roster.
  17. It will be interesting to see if the recruiting keeps climbing the ladder. 5 regular season championships in 6 years and a 2nd place finish in the off year. I don't know that we've dominated another sport the way we have this one.
  18. It would seem pretty lame to disqualify us after picking us as the preseason favorite. Valid and legal but lame. I figured our NEC separation agreement would be to retain our eligibility for the auto-bid and then get called for 10 holding calls against CCSU.
  19. I noticed that too. Something is not right. There is a miscommunication with that. We have 11 teams and SB has an even 10. Unless there is a 12th team somewhere maybe Elon, or Davidson. Otherwise, I am ready for new competition. I'd take our word for it over SBU. We are the only one of the teams entering the CAA to have win(s) over a CAA team. UA 3-6 against the CAA, SBU 0-5. So it begins...
  20. We should have a game @ Rider for the bracketbusters return also.
  21. If we go... CAA football only, with SBU Very happy with no reservations. A chance to be in the best FCS conference in the country, raise our profile and be a candidate for an all-sports conference that's the right fit. CAA football only, with SBU joining CAA for all-sports Happy for football but generally confused and annoyed. CAA for all sports, with or without SBU Very happy with reservations. A huge leap up in just about everything. Still concerned that it's a very southern conference and expenses for all sports would limit being competitive.
  22. Duquesne released their schedule today. They say they are opening their schedule against us on Nov.9th at Albany. I'd seen that as the date of the Ohio State game in the past. I very much like the Dukes as a home opener though.
