  1. Captains have been announced on the UA site. Brian Becker, Aaron Kimball and Colin Disch were named. While I agree with all three picks hopefully in the next couple of years a QB emerges as a team leader. To me there are times in the tough conference games when that leadership in the huddle is important and has been lacking in the past few years. Speaking of QB. Ford's quote "It was your typical first week where the offense takes longer to put everything together. Neither quarterback (Daniel Bocanegra, Brett Hall) has pulled away in that battle. I am impressed with both our receivers and inside linebackers. The defense is running to the football extremely well."
  2. I always assumed the last guys cut were the ones usually signed to the practice squad. Hopefully he has a shot at catching on.
  3. I was doing the same thing at first amd quoting the previous post. As A Dane Fan said there's two reply buttons at the bottom of the thread. One has a "reply and the other is just a plain add reply. I'lll try and straighten out the colors also. I admit it's been so nice outside recently I've had a tough time going home and staying inside to work on the computer.
  4. I want to find the guy who played in the 70s and was watching practice. He should be introduced to the board. He could be posting all that info and be our e-reporter.
  5. I actually liked Levi at the four the few times it happened last year. He rebounded well in those games and didn't have a problem defensively if I recall. He has a pretty good post up game which he showed more in the first two years when he had to play under the basket much more. As Patch said he doesn't really drive but is such a good outside shooter he makes other PF uncomfortable guarding him out on the perimeter. I always think of Haddix out there with him his freshman year. He got a ton of good looks because Haddix didn't want to go out there and guard him. I hope he can provide some leadership this year and not get distracted by the officiating. He's too good of a player to get involved in that. If I'm not mistaken he and Knotts will be the first players in Albany's DI history to play under the same coach all four years. Here's hoping he's the first in a long streak. Quite a testament to this teams depth and the quality of Brown's recruting if a player of Brent Wilson's caliber can't break the starting line-up. Anytime in the past he would have been a lock to be starting. Should be interesting to see if he starts playing more underneath instead of mainly bombing from outisde. Don't know much about the incoming guys other than Covington is highly regarded. I can't see Brown starting one of the freshman unless they are off the charts in terms of talent but it would be nice if either Covington or Connelly were a threat to score down low. It would really give teams a ton of options to defend. Graham physically looks like the perfect guy to play the front end of the press hounding the inbounder and then trapping. One of the things Q was really good at.
  6. That was the coach they mentioned. Not many home games on that list so far.
  7. Story in one of the Conneticut papers that has Albany playing UConn this year. No mention of the date. According to the story Patterson was a teamate at Virginia of one of the UConn assistants.
  8. I'm not sure there are any innocent questions involving you and Siena. I'm glad you mentioned it because I didn't realize we lost those. I'll put them back. Thanks.
  9. According to insiders Albany has offered Lance Feurtado Jr. of Uniondale, NY. He's a 6'5 SF. Drexel and Rider have also offered. Here's a picture of him
  10. I would guess he's a preferred walk-on if he's listed this early. I'm pretty sure they have open tryouts in October for student walk-ons. Either way this looks like another excellent move on Brown's part . As Patch pointed out Leahy was 9th team all-state, Vermont's Josh Duell was 10th team if that counts for anything. Leahy played lax and looks to be friends with the recruits who are coming to Albany. Maybe Marr and Brown got together and worked this out. In addition to being a pretty good player for a walk-on he's also a terrific student all-state academic team.
  11. Bingo! Once I get it working right (and get rid of the green) there will be a couple of others to follow.
  12. Hopefully those Big East opponents will draw some interest and get people to the games. I thought last years tourney final had a terrific atmosphere. Preseason Coaches Poll was announced yesterday with Albany getting all the first place votes. Albany Tops Volleyball Coaches' Poll University at Albany is the unanimous preseason favorite to repeat as America East volleyball champions, according to a vote of the conference's head coaches. The Great Danes received all six possible first-place votes (coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team) and 36 points overall, ahead of University of Maine (29 points), which had one first-place vote to its credit, and University of New Hampshire (28).Complete Poll The Great Danes (13-1 America East, 27-7 overall) won their first America East regular-season and tournament championships in 2004, marking the university's first women's program in school history to earn an NCAA Division I Tournament berth. Head coach Kelly Sheffield, the 2004 America East Coach of the Year, returns six starters and nine letterwinners from a team that won a school record 27 games a season ago. Blair Buchanan, the 2004 America East Player and Setter of the Year, returns for her junior campaign to lead the Great Danes. Last season, Buchanan led America East in assists (12.59 per game) and also averaged 2.31 digs per game and 1.28 kills per game. Also back for the defending champions are 2004 America East First Team All-Conference selections Ashley Hunter (3.74 kpg), Shelby Goldman (4.21 kpg) and Ashlee Reed (2.65 kpg, 2.20 dpg, 0.66 blocks per game).
  13. Just got back in from vacation so I'm trying to catch up with email, etc. In the mean time I thought I'd throw an easy Tuesday Trivia out there. What do the green numbers at the top of the page represent?
  14. It's possible it was all the little chicks with crimson lips saying... "Cleveland Rocks! Cleveland Rocks" but probably not. We've had three good players come from the midwest in the past two recruiting classes. Maybe they are trying to increase exposure in that area for recruiting.
  15. It's certainly possible that I'm crazy. I didn't predict victory in the San Diego State game just pointed out that it's not a David vs. Goliath game like say, the Danes vs. Florida. Admittedly I don't know too much about SDS other than they've had some trouble getting some of their recruits to campus this year.
  16. Story on Geir Gudmundsen in the Niagara Gazette. Gudmundsen is latest example of football artistry
  17. Certainly will be nice to have some home games this year. I really like the fact that Boston U is the Big Purple Growl game this year. If preseason predicitons hold those will be the top two teams in the league and should be a great game in front of the years biggest crowd. The early OOC games seem tough and road heavy but really Oakland and San Diego State are certainly games that can be won. Here's the RPI numbers on some of those opponents: Albany-195 Oakland-197 St. Peters 164 or Florida 19 Sacred Heart-325 San Diego State-186 UCLA-38 Siena-297 Cleveland St-275 Harvard-196 Brown-228 Cornell-210 Utah Valley State-227

  19. Press Release up on the UA website: UALBANY BASKETBALL COACH WILL BROWN RECEIVES ONE-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany Vice President and Director of Athletic Lee McElroy announced on Tuesday, August 2 that head men's basketball coach Will Brown has received a one-year contract extension. Brown, who signed an agreement that takes his contract through September 2006, was appointed as the 15th head coach in the UAlbany basketball program's history on March 13, 2002. "I am pleased with the recent progress the program has made," McElroy said. "Coach Brown has done a wonderful job of rebuilding through the recruiting process, and our student-athletes are excited about the possibilities this year. He also has taken steps to upgrade the quality and professionalism of his coaching staff." Brown led UAlbany to a 13-15 record in 2004-05, an eight-win improvement over the previous season. The Great Danes posted their best-ever league record in America East Conference play with a 9-9 mark while finishing fourth in the conference standings. UAlbany is expected to be one of the preseason favorites for this year's conference title with the return of four starters, including All-America East selections Jamar Wilson and Lucious Jordan. Wilson and Jordan ranked among the league's top-10 scorers at 16.9 and 14.8 points per game, respectively. "This announcement represents the positive direction in which the UAlbany basketball program is moving," said Brown, who served as the school's interim head coach for most of the 2001-02 season. "The University, administrators and staff have been very supportive from day one. The players and coaches are determined to achieve their goals in the upcoming season."
  20. From one of the Wyoming papers: " Eric Platt and Natrona County's rising junior Arthur Steward, who are playing for a Colorado AAU team, and Casper College coach Doug Stewart, who is getting an early jump on looking at prospects for the Thunderbirds. Platt has performed well on the summer basketball circuit, earning all-tournament honors at the Rumble in the Bay in San Jose, Calif., and the Hoosier Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. Platt had already received scholarship offers from Wyoming and Portland State, but now San Diego State, Colorado State, San Jose State and Albany (N.Y) have joined the list. Albany offered after Platt hit 10 3-pointers in a game in the Indianapolis tournament Platt is a 6'5 shooting guard. Outstanding outside shooter with a good basketball IQ. Excellent defender who was runner-up for Mr. Basketball in Wyoming. Lead state in scoring, rebounding and was third in assists and steals. Averaged 20.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.6 steals, while shooting 53% from three point range.
  21. She appears to be scoring in other ways too as she only had two 3s in that game. Also noted that game was against Siena alum Jolene Johnston. Gered Burns won a gold medal in the 800 meters yesterday.
  22. As you've probably noticed I haven't done much customization to site since the upgrade. I wanted to install a chat room and was concerned I'd undo everything with the installation. Luckily that didn't happen. I'm happy to say we know how a chat room. The link to it is in the upper right hand corner of the board. When you're logged into the board you're automagically logged into the chat room. My thinking for installing it is during away games or other times most of us are listening to the games on the radio or over the internet. I figured a chat room is quicker while the game is going on you can talk about things as they happen. I'll mentioned it again when the fall season starts and we're more likely to use it.
  23. Hey anyone online. Please join me in the chat room. I'm testing it out. Thanks!
  24. I think Lillis is a PG of the future. Heady, growing confidence, big, strong, can shoot. We dont know much about the handle because of the wrist injury, but I think it is something he can improve on. I would be very confident handing the reigns over to him. Kanaan looks real thin in the pic I saw of him. A bit smaller than B. Wilson. 9092[/snapback] I agree with you Dane96 about Lillis at PG. He really seems suited for that role. I'd think if anything they'd be looking for guys who can attack the way Jamar and Lou can from the off-guard spot (we'd be fortunate to do that) and not PGs. From his numbers Denision appears more of a slasher/scorer which would be just what we need.
