  1. Baltimore Sun article on last night's lacrosse game. Sun story.
  2. One of their players died while working out with teamates. Canisius player dies-TU.
  3. I couldn't find the story online but LB McCloskey a QB from Gloversville has signed an LOI to play at Albany next year. He rushed for over 700 yards this year and threw for about 650. He also pitches for his high school team and just threw a one-hitter yesterday. Here's his info from a recruiting site: LB McCloskey - QB Gloversville HS - Graduates: 2004 Height: 6'3" - Weight: 183 - GPA: 3.07 - PSAT: 980 - SAT: 40 yds: 4.7 - Bench: 185 - Squat: 305 - Deadlift: Career Highlights 1. Brough up to varsity for Superbowl - Freshmen Year 2. Starting WR/CB Varsity - Sophomore 3. Junior Year - 57 Comp/118 Att/851 yards/8 TD's/3 INT - 120 rush att/535 yards/4TD's - 9th in section in Comp/yards 9 TD passes - Team 4. MVP 2002 5. Section 2 Foothills Honorable Mention All Star
  4. Looks like he had a nice senior year. Would think he has a shot in Europe if nothing else. Gallup story.
  5. The AE is doing a webcast similar to what they did for the basketball tourney. Here's the link.
  6. They do have a championship and it's held at Auburn. There's no mention of it in the story. This should do well for UA in the commissioners cup standings.
  7. That's fantastic. It will be an interesting trivia questions someday. What UA coach lead teams to conference championships in two different sports? Congrats to Doc Sauers and the team.
  8. I'm glad you like the board and thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try and upgrade a few things over the summer when things are generally quieter. I hope you'll bear with me on the trip info. It's incomplete as it is but I'm hoping in the future it'll be helpful for people looking to travel with the Danes on the road. The people on the Maine board were great about providing info about Orono.
  9. To be fair, the schedules for the season aren't set yet so it's still possible there will be a $iena-UA women's game. From what we've heard from both sides it won't be at the Pepsi Arena as part of a doubleheader. If there is a game outside the doubleheader I think it may actually be a lot more fair to the players. If you consider that most of the people going to the Pepsi are really going to see the men's game, they (the fans) often come in late in the game or not at all and don't pay much attention to the women's game. It might be better to give the women their own night at the RACC or the ARC. If this happens I guess I owe the $iena folks an apology. In the meantime I'm going with the $iena as poultry theory.
  10. The Binghamton paper has some local high schoool track results in today. One of the names I was surprised to find was our 6-5 basketball signee Kristen Peterson. She won the 400 meters, the 1600 meter relay and the high jump. I was kind of concerned when we signed her we were getting a clumsy, small school center. She doesn't sound too clumsy from those events.
  11. According to a story in the TU the Jets will be joining the Giants for a practice at UA. Jets are set to work in Albany-TU.
  12. Not really Danes related but there's a story in the TU this morning about former RPI quarterback Dan Cole getting a tryout with the Patriots. Cole Story.
  13. As I'm sure you noticed I've created a new forum for Spring Sports. With a baseball team in the top 75 in the country, a lacrosse team that has bordered on breaking into the top 20 this year and a softball team that is rolling over everyone it only seemed respectful to give them their own forum. 1200 people at Saturday's lacrosse game can't be wrong. It probably doesn't affect the way anyone posts but I figured I'd keep everything in one area. I'm also going to start rotating the forum for whatever season we're in to the top of the board (i.e. it's spring so the spring sports are at the top, in the fall I'll move football up, you get the idea.) Thanks, DP
  14. The senior ceremony for basketball is done before the games start. Granted there are less players involved but it seems to work. I don't know if the honor start they grant the seniors would work in lacrosse. I was curious about the PA system as well as the team benches being set-up across the field. You could hear the PA a little better during the Yale game because the crowd wasn't quite as loud. I don't think I heard anything on Saturday. Having the games on the football field is a great idea though.
  15. Zimniewicz, Lewis, Magrass Honored in Baseball Albany’s Kirt Zimniewicz (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal/Alfred State) has been named America East Player of the Week for baseball, while Jon Lewis (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) of Stony Brook and Vermont’s Miguel Magrass (West Roxbury, Mass./Salisbury) have been honored as Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively. The awards were announced Monday (May 3). Zimniewicz was 7-for-11 at the plate (.636) during the Great Danes’ three-game weekend series versus Binghamton. The senior second baseman knocked in four runs, including two home runs, and also scored five times against the Bearcats, while extending his team-high 17-game hitting streak with a two-run homer in the first inning of the Great Danes’ 6-5 victory on Sunday. On the week, Zimniewicz hit .643 with a 1.071 slugging percentage. Lewis, Covucci, Fontana Honored in Women's Lacrosse Lindsay Lewis (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) of Boston University is the America East Player of the Week, while Cristina Covucci (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) of New Hampshire and Kate Fontana (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) of Albany have been named America East Defender and Rookie of the Week respectively. (May 3) Fontana collected three goals, one assist, and five ground balls and also caused five turnovers against Stony Brook. She also two goals and one assist against Boston University.
  16. There's a column in Boydsworld about the Danes at-large chances in the NCAA's. Lots about our SOS and how the conference teams are killing our RPI. Boydsworld column.
  17. Not sure what you're referring to although maybe Tony does. While I don't like $iena or it's fans they seem to run a pretty clean program.
  18. Danes looked sloppy last night and Bing looked very disciplined and methodical. Their goalie was fantastic. Too bad the seniors had to go out with a loss but the second season begins Wednesday. The crowd was good (1250 according to Dane96) and I thought pretty loud. If they were looking for a home coming atmosphere for lacrosse it seemed like they got it. The #1 seed hasn't meant too much the last few years as it hasn't gotten anyone into the NCAAs. Hopefully this loss stings and the Danes can go down and take it out on UMBC.
  19. Seems like alot of this info came from recruiting sites which are fairly suspect anyway. The people of this board and Tony probably read mostly the same things on Dyson, Tony got stuck on the questionable hands comment on hoopscoop or wherever while I remember more clearly the recruiting service that said Dyson should contend for rookie of the year. I can only really go by what Brown has said about Dyson and he seemed very excited about him. More so, it seemed that the other three recruits who I thought were very good. I've never trusted the hoopscoop or whatever rankings very much about guys who signed early anyway. The recruiting services make their money off scouting unsigned recruits, not guys who have already signed. Do you really think they're going to go back and reevalute guys like Brent Wilson or Brian Lillis after their senior season when they already signed in the fall. It's been mentioned often that Jamar Wilson was listed by hoopscoop as a 3 star recruit. He was listed as a two star recruit when he was signed. He was only upgraded by hoopscoop in their final rankings which occured after he talked about prepping and resigning with another team. Wilson wasn't the highest ranked recruit in that AE class at 2 stars. If I remember right it was Shijede Childs of UNH who I think was a 4 star hoopscoop recruit. I think he was ranked higher because he signed late in the spring. My point is the coaching staffs see these guys more than any recruiting services or friends of fans. If Brown is excited about Dyson that's good enough for me. Execpt for RDJC everyone on the $iena board was killing Iati's signing last year before they ever saw him play. Most of us are pretty happy with the way he turned out, I'm hoping Dyson will prove you wrong too.
  20. There's a good story in today's TU about Andee Lindgren. She is leading the conference in lowest ERA and in the highest batting average. Also a non-sports story. Aparently Interim President Ryan is living in the on-campus dorms. Pretty funny story. Interim president samples taste of UAlbany dorm life -TU.
  21. The Danes signed another lacrosse recruit recently. Scott Marr will now have most of the Bethpage football team's backfield on his team next year. They signed Anthony Sieter a defenseman in the spring period. Sieter is a fullback on the football team. Last fall they signed Jordan Levine a midfielder from Bethpage. Levine was also captain of the football team and starting pt guard on the basketball team. Page on Jordan "Skippy" Levine here. I wonder if the "Skippy" name will follow him to UA.
  22. I didn't really expect Jones to get drafted but it was great to see him on the NFL radar. Taking Todd Cetnar's basketball career in England as an example, hopefully Jones can build a nice career for himself outside the NFL.
  23. Nice story on Danes baseball in the Troy Record today. Hey GreatDanes84, any chance you'll be playing tomorrow in the students vs. UPD game?
  24. I believe they've said the same thing about Zoellner.
  25. I forgot to post this before. There's a Q+A with Danes baseball signee Jeff Kaier from Queensbury in today's TU. He has some nice things to say about his recruiting process, the team and Coach Mueller. Kaier-Q+A
