  1. Good story about Danes lacrosse recruit Mike Ammann. Both he and hiw twin brother Steve are coming to UA this year for lacrosse. Mike Ammann. Another story also-The Ammann's team just won their sectional title. No. 1 Putnam Valley defeats No. 3 Somers 10-6-Journal News.
  2. Fallon Field has a very nice ring to it. . I'm curious how this will effect the earlier announced plan for a turf football/multi-use field. I had assumed before the reason the stadium was going to be turf was so that snow could be plowed off for early season lacrosse games. Now that lacrosse is going to have their own turf field it's possible the stadium will be grass instead. If there were a turf and a natural grass field I suppose the lacrosse team could practice on whatever type they were going to play on when they were going on the road. I hadn't really thought too much about what surface lacrosse is played on until I saw the game at the Syracuse Dome. All game long the Orange players threw bounces paces to each other that you would never try on natural grass. Hopefully the new lacrosse field is lighted so the night lacrosse games can continue.
  3. Syracuse beat Navy yesterday 14-13 to win it all. Good to know it took the National Champs to knock UA out of the tourney. Syracuse Edges Navy to Win NCAA Championship BALTIMORE, Md. * A run of three-straight goals late in the fourth quarter proved too much for the Navy lacrosse team to overcome as Syracuse rallied for a 14-13 victory in front of an NCAA National Championship Game record crowd of 43,898 Monday afternoon at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. “I’m obviously disappointed that we didn’t win the game today, but I’m very proud of our team,” said Navy head coach Richie Meade. “I’m not sure if we did as good a job defensively if we could have, but Syracuse played awfully well.” “Today was very emotional,” said Syracuse head coach John Desko. “This game was a very different championship game, because of our opponent. The United States Naval Academy, Richie Meade and his staff just had a real sense of pride. I was so proud of them being there and the way they played all season. They played with a bigger cause and to go out and play them, it didn’t have the feel of a typical opponent. We were pulling for them as well.”
  4. With all that's happened I've lost track but we do have two scholarships for next year right? With Wyatt and Q graduating I'd love to see a couple of big guys brought in.
  5. I really don't know how seriously to take the recruiting services but we'd have quite a huge lineup with Dyson, Z, Wilson and Pittman in 05-06. I'm sure were he to sign with UA the $iena fans would tell us he's a "project" or a "stiff" anyway.
  6. According to insider $iena has offered Pittman a scholarship and they list Albany as interested. Pittman is a 6'8 225lb PF from Poughkeepsie HS.
  7. In front of nearly 47,000 Syracuse beat #1 seed John Hopkins. Title game is Monday at 2:30 on ESPN and I'll be pulling for Syracuse. They beat the #1 team in the country by 6 goals which doesn't make our 8 goal loss at the dome look too bad at all.
  8. For moving on to nationals with their performance (and a little luck). COVERT & HOWLETT ADVANCE TO NCAA DIVISION I TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS Gainesville, Fla. – University at Albany’s Teresa Covert and Brandon Howlett qualified for the NCAA Division I championships in women’s 100-meter hurdles and men’s discus throw, respectively, on Saturday, may 29 at the NCAA East Regional Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day competition was held at the University of Florida’s Pearcy Beard Track. Covert, a senior from Susquehanna, Pa., needed a committee review to advance after she was originally placed sixth in 100-hurdles final. The top five finishers in each event qualify for the NCAA championships in Austin, Texas on June 9-12. After UAlbany coach Roberto Vives asked for the committee to reread the results, the officials ruled that Covert and Villanova’s Monique Morgan finished in a dead heat for fifth. In order to break the tie, the two athletes were instructed to rerun the race to determine the NCAA representative. The Villanova coaching staff conceded the spot when they determined Morgan would not be able to compete again due to an injury. "I saw her at the line as finishing fifth," Vives said. "It was a tough angle for the officials with Teresa (Covert) running in lane one, so asked the committee to take a look at it. I am happy it worked out for her and Brandon (Howlett). They were our most valuable team members throughout the season, so it’s nice to see them make nationals." Covert, a two-time America East Conference champion in the 100-hurdles, became the first UAlbany track athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division I nationals last year. She officially posted a season-best time of 13.47 seconds in this evening’s race. Howlett, a junior from New Haven, Conn., is the first UAlbany male athlete to reach the national championships. He posted his second-best throw of the season with a toss of 181-feet to finish fourth among the regional competitors. Howlett set the school record (184-0.50) with a second-place finish at the America East outdoor meet on May 2. North Carolina State’s James Rowell won the discus with a mark of 190-07. ******************** NCAA East Regional Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships (Pearcy Beard Track, Gainesville, Fla.) Women’s 100-Meter Hurdles Final 1. Lashinda Demus (South Carolina), 12.99, 2. Ebony Foster (North Carolina State), 13.04, 3. Andrea Bliss (Florida), 13.05, 4. Kellie Wells (Hampton), 13.34, 5. Teresa Covert (Albany), 13.47, 6. Monique Morgan (Villanova), 13.47, 7. Jessica Czaikowski (West Virginia), 13.61, 8. Shameka Marshall (Rutgers), 13.64), Hyleas Fountain (Georgia), DNS. Men’s Discus Throw Final 1. James Rowell (North Carolina State), 190-07, 2. Ryan McIntyre (Florida), 184-04, 3. Lucais MacKay (Georgia), 183-11, 4. Brandon Howlett (Albany), 181-00, 5. Nate Michael (Navy), 178-02, 6. Marqus Johnson (Florida State), 176-07, 7. Chad McClendon (Georgia), 176-01, 8. Thomas Carey (St. Francis, Pa.), 171-09.
  9. A disappointing loss at the tourney but I don't see how it tarnishes the season at all. Going from a 30+ loss season last year to as 35+ win this year was fantastic no matter what happened in the tourney. It would have been a dream season to go through to the NCAA's but it was still a great season that will pay dividends in recruting and experience. No one onthe team had experience in the post-season tourney before. It's pretty hard to have your first taste of tournament play be a good one no matter how well you've been playing. This team seemed to peak a little too early in the season. It's a sign that the program has taken a huge step forward when we are disappointed we didn't win the AE tournament. Last year we would have been happy to just have made in there. Between the regular season title in softball with the coach of the year and player of the year, a top three finish in baseball-also with the coach and player the year, a conference championship in golf, a tournament championship in lacrosse with a game in the dome in Syracuse and sending two track athletes to the NCAA it's been an unbelievable spring. To me, the winning this spring has legitimized our move to D1 and there will be no looking back.
  10. Danes leading 8-1 with NU up in the top of the 8th. They've scored 8 runs on 6 hits.
  11. We had Lehigh at home last year so I would assume if we played them this year it would be on the road. I always like the games against Jones and Yale. I'm not sure why we didn't continue that series.
  12. Maine pounds Albany-Bangor Daily News. Seems like UA had their chances and left a bunch of guys on base. Hopefully they can bounce back today.
  13. Another player from Our Savior is on the list for next year's class. Bekono is listed as a 6'6 small forward. Here's a description from insiders: Bekono is a live-bodied athlete who attacks the rim. He can put it on the floor a little bit, and has quick feet. Shooting-wise, he needs to be more consistent. But the native of Cameroon's physical tools are intriguing.
  14. From what we know now we have: Villanova (A) Georgetown (A) Siena (A) Wagner (A) Sacred Heart (A) Assuming it's our turn to go down the thruway to West Point and play Army. That's six of nine games on the road. Hopefully Colgate owes us a home game. Otherwise we're not going to see much basketball at the RACC until the conference schedule begins.
  15. There's a good story in the TU about Danes closer Shawn Ryan. Ryan story.
  16. I think the same goes for the luncheons that are held during the week although if you work close by you can catch some of those. I suspect the golf outing is geared more for people like Patch who have deep pockets and are able to make their own schedules. While we're at it let's move it out of Loudonville too.
  17. UA can definatly beat UA. No doubt about it. The Villanova game is on a Wednesday. I was really hoping it would be on a weekend so I could make the trip. Hopefully Georgetown gives us a better day.
  18. I don't think we need to put all the emphisis on hoops as $iena does. Basketball will come around in the near future-the women's team already has as they were not hamstrung by the previous coach like the men's team was. In just about every other sport we've closed the gap or passed them. A few solid basketball season and public perception will change. Here's the rpi numbers in other sports ( I admit we've had a terrific spring) Football (1AA teams only): Albany 84 Siena 121 Soccer (men's) Albany 140 Siena 175 Lacrosse (men's) Albany 18 Siena 52 Baseball Albany 70 Siena 197
  19. I was rooting for Syracuse to pull it out over Georgetown which they did. Better for Albany to lose to an eventual final four team. I hope they win a national title. Dane96-does it make it any easier to deal with your sister now that Maryland only made it one round further in the NCAA's than Albany did?
  20. Danefan2K3 is right. The alumni association did have a link to the old Private Pound site. They removed it because alot of alum complained about the profanity and overall atmosphere of that board. I would imagine that's why they're unwilling to link to another message board. If they are interested in buying, I could let if go for $1 million or so.
  21. I have talked to people on campus about the board. To a person, they've all been terrific, very encouraging. I did inquire about setting up a link on the UA site but was told it can't be done because the University doesn't control the content. The people at the NYC alumni site were kind enough to put a link on their site. As far as I know, they are the only alumni chapter with a website. I like your other ideas and will work on some of them for next year. I hadn't thought about WCDB but it's a terrific idea. If you happen to know anyone there shoot me an email. As far as having the PA announcer mention it during the game, I'm not sure how that would work but it would be great if it could be done. My wife and I have discussed sponsoring one of those in-game contests to promote the site. Ours would go something like-if you can knock down a cardboard cut-out of Nick Marachuk with a basketball from halfcourt you win a free hotdog, brought to you by big purple fans.com. Something like that. Time and winning should build our fanbase and consequently board participation. Thanks for the suggestions.
  22. Welcome to the board. I'm glad you found us. If you have any questions or problems let me know. Enjoy the board and welcome.
  23. Two members of the Seton Catholic Central (near Binghamton) basketball team were killed in a car accident Friday night. One of them, Brad Conklin, was being recruited by UA and Will Brown. Brown is quoted in the story. Not much mention of the accident in the story but there have been too many of them this year. Jamar Wilson's high school team had a van accident earlier this year, one of the teams that play Herman Banks Paris CC team had a fatal bus accident and now this one. Conkin was only 17 and his teamate was 16. Conklin accident.
  24. Like softball, the Danes get an opening game with home team Maine...terrific. Nice avatar Alumni92.
  25. It's probably a shock to the system for most of us who have only seen a UA team with 7 or 8 guys on the roster to see a team with 14 guys on the roster next year. We haven't seen a full roster in our five years of division I. We'll see one next year. And I'm looking forward to it. We'll hear the horn for subs next year and there will actually be UA players going into the game instead of guys playing 40 minutes. When somebody picks up two quick fouls Brown will look down the bench and have to decide between sending in Wyatt, Brent Wilson, Dyson, etc instead of deciding between Martin and Knotts like he did last year. To be honest the only guy coming in I'm skeptical about is Bauman and I really see Perry as insurance to shore up the guards spot and give Bauman a year to develop.
