  1.

Is RPI something that's calculated differently by different people?

Yes. Per RealtimeRPI:1.4 Does the NCAA perform adjustments to the basic formula?Yes. They normally have their own secret adjustments. Basically, it's a system of bonuses and penalties. Teams gain credits for beating top 50 RPI teams and for scheduling 50 percent of their non-conference games against top 50 opponents. Teams receive penalties for losing to non-Division I teams, or lossing to weak teams (150 or below) and for scheduling 50 percent of the non-conference schedule against weak teams. We also perform similar adjustments.1.7 How accurate are your results comparing to the official NCAA calculations?Should be very accurate, subject to game data errors which are rare but occur occasionally. In addition, minor discrepancies may exist if the NCAA and RTR have different definitions for certain neutral games. So every non-official RPI rating is guessing at the adjusments, and not everyone has every score correct or listed.

RealtimeRPI is a fun resource, but it has its fair share of mistakes and contacting their customer service is next to impossible. Two noticeable errors:

    1) They list the Albany women as having beaten Northeastern 70-67, but this was a loss.

    2) They still have SBU football listed as being in the Big South.

  2. I don't remember that...from what I remember they were on UNH's side of the floor about to go back on offense. He didn't take him out right after Baker hit the FT's...Baker played that defensive possession, there was a foul, UNH guy went to the line, and Dallas came in. If it was right after Baker made FT's, I'd understand that...but this is why I'm not sure why he was taken out because we were about to get the ball if I remember correctly.

FWIW, this is also my recollection of the events.

  3. You are correct. It is up to the losing team to concede and pull their starters and the winning team will put in the bench.

The refs lost control with about three to go and starting watching TV(monitors)which should be in the parking lot and not on the sidelines.

I can't blame Hartford if they felt a little disrespected. Up 24 points with under a minute to go, and Coach Abe still had four of five starters out there, and she was trapping at half-court.

At the end of the men's game, the guys behind me were wondering why Will didn't empty the bench for the last four minutes, considering Hooley's gone. Really just a 7-man rotation plus Peters with 12 minutes. Sam, Dallas and Evan with over thirty minutes.

Just watched the replay of the women's game. There's a thought process that it's up to the trailing team to back off and pull its starters before the leading team needs to, and Hartford still had most of their starters in to the end. (see also Albany football vs. Villanova). OTOH the UMBC men don't have much choice.

I was too focused on the UA players; good catch.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- University at Albany Head Football Coach Greg Gattuso has announced a number of adjustments to the UAlbany coaching staff for the 2015 season, including the addition of Jay Foster, Nate Byham, and Dave Plungas.

Foster will serve as the team’s defensive backs coach, Byham will lead the tight ends, and Plungas will assist the defensive assistant coaches.

In addition, Gabe Luvara has moved from tight ends coach to assistant offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, while offensive coordinator Joe Bernard has added assistant head coach to his title.

“Gabe was instrumental in the development of our passing game last year and he’s going to step up in his role,” said Gattuso. “He’s just done a great job for us and we have a lot of faith in him.”

Bernard Clark also received a promotion, now serving as associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach.

"One of his greatest assets is getting kids to play for him hard," said Gattuso of Clark. "They respond to him and rally to him. I just love his energy on the field and he’s going to do a great job running our defense this year."

Former director of operations, Jeff Dittman, has been promoted to the role of special teams coordinator and defensive assistant.

"Jeff’s work ethic and loyalty this past year was phenomenal in the director role," said Gattuso. "Special teams needs a guy that works like that and Jeff is a great fit. He’s a young enthusiastic coach and he’s very dedicated."

Consequently, Harry Traylor fills Dittman’s void in operations after spending last season assisting the defense.

"Harry was my intern at Maryland a few years ago," added Gattuso. "I think he’s an extremely intelligent person. He’s young but I think he has the skills to balance what we need in that role. Our director of football is a guy who really helps me run the program. He has big shoes to fill but I think he’s going to do a great job."

Lastly, Aaron Smith has added pass game coordinator to his responsibilities, in addition to his former roles of recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach.

  5. Kind of a lackluster rout, sure didn't have the fire that the women's game had. UA and UH women are going to get into a brawl one of these days.

I can't blame Hartford if they felt a little disrespected. Up 24 points with under a minute to go, and Coach Abe still had four of five starters out there, and she was trapping at half-court.

Is she angry she didn't get recruited to UConn as a player, and thought to exact her revenge on Rizzoti?

Anyhow, a super-entertaining game. When Albany was running out the last ten seconds of game clock you could see that one of the Hartford players wanted to foul Royals...hard. That return game will be one to watch.

  6.

d.) Have a neutral public address announcer.

So I take it you didn't enjoy listening to the announcer take 90 second to say "basket by RRRRRRRobbbiiieeee Poooleeeee!"

Everything that isn't neutral about that game annoys me to no avail. I am still shaking my head that their women's team lost by 19 and a Siena player was named player of the game.

BTW, you did not want to be anywhere near me when the women were down 11 to the team picked 10th in the MAAC...with two fouls each on their two best players.

  7. Luckily for all involved I have figured out the solution. To continue the series:

    1) Sign a 5 year contract to play one game each season, at the Times Union Center.

    2) Do not include the game in any season ticket package.

    3) "Neutralize" the environment:

a.) Either play on a court with no school or conference decals, or ship half of UAlbany's court downtown.

b.) Black out all the Siena lights on the facing of the upper deck, and on the scoreboard.

c.) Do not allow anyone affiliated with either school to handle the video coverage (both during and after the game.)

d.) Have a neutral public address announcer.

e.) Divide time for on-court promotions and contests equally.

f.) Have a small neutral committee determine the player of the game.

g.) Place UAlbany signs over one half of the Siena signs on the concourse.

    4) Divide ALL revenues based upon the number of season ticket holders for each school as reported (and verified by an independent auditor) on December 1st. This will encourage both schools to promote season ticket sales more actively and will offer an approximation of current support.

    5) Have designated seating areas for each team, with new sections opening to each school based upon ticket sales.

    That should handle it!

Win 5 of the 5 games, and start holding back from Siena!
