1. Great, then let's make sure somehow that everyone who wants to go gets there and gets in one way or another. I am leaning toward the train. I just don't think it will be wise to drive down and back - too tired. A party train would be great fun for those who can afford it! I'll be wearing my purple for any others going this route - say hi!
2. I suspect that overwhelmed is an understatement for the one man ticket operation at UA. We are all going to have to go through growing pains over the next few years as I'm sure the team will continue to improve in the years to come. Hopefully the program will be able to build on their investment with a staff that can do all the contacting and emails as mentioned above. How long has it taken to get to this point? Where there's a Will there's a way .
3. Anyone with a clean license want to share my ride? My nephew and I are going btwn noon and 2:00 Friday and will return after game. Sorry not much time for pre / post game reveling but save some $ and wear & tear on the vehicles and drivers. My other idea is to damn the checking account and take the train - anyone else considering this? Train schedule going shows a lot of options coming back will have to wait 'till at least 5:15 AM to get back
4. If you can't be at the RACC for the America East Men's Basketball Conference Championship game this Saturday, you can still watch your Great Danes take on the Vermont Catamounts on ESPN2. Game time is noon EST and 9:00 a.m. PST. The winning team will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. If you're in NYC or Los Angeles, you can get together to view the game with fellow Great Danes fans at two great locations: LOS ANGELES Location: Home of Gil Meyer '86, '00, Alumni Association Board Member 216 West California Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91105 Time: Game time: 9:00 a.m. PST * Viewing Party: 8:30 a.m. PST RSVP: gil_meyer@charter.net by Friday, March 10 at 5:00 p.m. NEW YORK CITY Location: Standings Bar, 43 East 7th St. (between 2nd Ave & Bowery) Time: Game time: Noon EST * Viewing Party: 11:30 a.m. Details: Bagels and beer, Half-time free pizza
5. The biggest difference I saw from the disasterous start to the spectacular finish is energy on defence! We bagan the season with half hearted perimeter coverage and no help for the big guy when versus athletic fowards and centers. We weren't even contesting passes into the middle. That attitude then transitioned into offense where the guys couldn't pass to save their lives (it's still a big weakness I think) and settled for one on one with the which simply doesn't work well against anyone from a well coached club. Our most success lies in aggressive help defense that feeds a fast paced but under control offense. Energy is the key. If I see our guys come out intensely on defense I will smile and sit back comfortable no matter what the shooting percentage is because we will hold down Vermont's scoring and eventually our guys will find the touch and score more than them.
6. I think we can say first D-I All-American period can't we? Have any other sports or individuals done it or come close while we've been D-I. I know Roberto has had many D-III & D-II All-Americans. The whole program just keeps stepping up to the plate.
7. Thanks for the info and the classy post, CatsFan. Will pass the it along to any city folk that can't make it to the game. 12630 This is great! My "gameplan" was changed last night - business in NYC calls me away from Brownsville and this info. has just put me in a vastly better mood. Unless UA Alum relations comes up with a better place, I'll be there!
8. Fair enough. I love football and attended most of the horrible weather games last season. Will the new stadium have heated seats I'll pay for one!
9. Hey - It would be great to get UA alum / students to start tailgating early! How can we get the word out? Could be great fun! Sausage and beer for breakfast & lunch! It'll be cold that early but starting this tradition could set us apart from Bball fans in the N'East. A little ESPN2 love might get us on tv. The game may be the main event but there's no reason why the party can't start early.
10. Sorry oldtimer, the numbers rarely add up. See http://www.trackshark.com/articles/2003/17.php some quotes only 35% of athletic departments are showing a profit. Also of note is that during the 2000-01 school year, the so-called revenue-generating sports at Bowling Green - football and men's basketball - combined for a loss of more than $1.9 million. However, over the course of 6 home games, the Falcons managed to only net 106,916 in attendance with an average of 17,819 per game. Bowling Green dropped men's track & field as did three other MAC teams.
11. Right now we are projected to play Villanova in Philly. If thats the case UA should have a good crowd as far as students go. 12548 I believe the Philly venue is sold out. I hope they reserved some of those for the schools who get assigned there but I also imagine that will be limited.
12. A bunch of us students are getting a tailgate together saturday morning so anyone who wants to join in can come... after we get our tickets we are grilling and what not. COME ON DOWN!! 12534 Where? Will they stick you in Dutch Quad or can this be done with the price of parking in the RACC lot? A big tailgating crowd would surely make an ESPN2 highlight! I'm going out for white hots and beer tonight!
13. There is a team score but qualification is strictly by individual performance. Indoor is unique in that only 12 - 16 in each event get in based strictly on performance, not place or region. It is generally harder to qualify for indoor nationals than for the Olympic trials. Outdoors allows for a "first round" qualifier based on performance or first place at conference championships similar to bball. Regional place (top 5) advances the individual to the NCAA Champs where again there is team score.
14. Looking for comments from those who know more than I. It looks from the posts as though UA Football is headed full scholarship, stadium, ... with all the trappings. Where will this leave the rest of the program? Many ambitious athletic departments have gutted their other mens programs to support the football build up, as a T&F alum, I'm not thrilled. Don't get me wrong, I would love to believe that scholarship football and non-revenue sports can coexist with strong support all around but that would be naive when you remember what happened to our Olympic level wrestling program. What do you think?
15. This alum is very happy. I've got my tix but maybe I'll go and get in line Sat. AM just to feel what it would have been like in my day if we had this kind of excitement on campus! How about a winter tailgating party! Start early / end late. I'll bring the grill! Will the admin. allow this?
16. I know it's hard to concentrate on anything but March Madness Dane Style but this is Big News! Gered is ranked 15th in the nation and headed to Arkansas this weekend.
17. Fantastic weekend results. UA continues to be the only team to make indoor T&F a spectator sport worth the price of admission! The 3:09+ 4X4 win vaults the men's team to national levels! Didn't make to the indoor dance but it sure sets the stage for outdoor. How about our twin sensations, all of the frosh for that matter! Good things for years to come. A few other results: Jess finishes 5th in the 800! Jenn wins the 1,000! team finishes 16th Gilman makes finals of the TJ! Burns 3 peat in the 800!
