  1. And that (Dave Wiegman) is as much a part of Brown's tenure here as a few NCAA berths.
  2. Some of you guys write as if the other CAA teams don't exist and we can just hire a coach and will them to win. These are probably the same guys so critical of the team and coaching this year. The CAA is tough. Our great kids and great coaches last year got beaten up this year, beaten up badly by teams recruiting, training and coaching at this level for many years. Do those of you who DEMAND winning seasons remember the Bball coach before Brown? Remember the disaster that ego brought UA Athletics - left Brown with a team that could only court 4 players at one time the next season. Did UNH fire their coach after a few so so seasons? No and now they are winning and ranked. So no matter who is hired Chill Out. The stadium might not get packed with a losing season but it won't go away either. It'll be there, all of you helped build it, and you'll enjoy a winning season soon enough.
  3. Looks like the band has a few more in numbers this year. Anyone know if some from the marching band have / will be joining them? Be nice to have a full sound especially for the big games.
  4. This Q team reminds a bit of the best Siena teams - maybe a bit lesser guard talent
  5. decent play except the O rebounds. I take back any crit of Puk, get on those boards and we'll make a game of this
  6. Agree with everything except Puk. I know the stats are early but he is the quietest 6'10" in the conference. It's nice he gets fired up once in a while but Brown needs to feed him some whoop ass all game! Otherwise - I love Shengalia energy - it will be much needed vs. SB and VT bigs! I agree with you on Shengalia. Tough guy too; I think he has been hit in the face in each of games so far. I hope the coaches feed him lots of rabid red meat before the Vermont and SB games because we are going to have some real slug fests coming up in early 2014. While I didn't look at Puk's stats for the game, what I am noticing goes far beyond the stat sheet: his lift off the floor, agility, hustle, etc. Also, he typically won't get all the rebounds he deserves because as our big man, he often has to rotate over, clog the lane, and attempt to alter shots, all of which take him out of position for weak-side rebounds, which highlights the importance of guys like Air Johnson and Hooley crashing the boards on the weak side because our bigs are rotating and contesting shots. As the season progresses, it may often be the case where we'll see Johnson lead the team in rebounds and/or see Hooley with 6-8 boards. Nice analysis - ty
  7. I think it would be a nice gesture if we hung an Australian flag up in the Arena and/or played the Australian national anthem before games in addition to ours. RPI and Union play the Canadian national anthem before college hockey games, do they not? Just a thought, but I think it would be a symbol of appreciation and respect and help the guys feel a little closer to home! +2 link to the anthem - uhhhg - how 'bout just a good Aussie chant
  9. Wish there was another camera there to see if the guy took a fall - the camera view was same as ref who could not have seen the actual contact. Regardless, I think this was an overachieving team and we'll see good things on the way.
  10. On AEast TV - Mens soccer scores with 20 seconds left to tie! Going into sudden death OT
  11. I don't believe this is accurate. I totally support Football but Football will never fund itself and all other athletics. A higher profile football is good for the school but will not bring in that type of money. Just not even a possibility - unless we go FBS and into a major conference with a huge TV contact and I don't believe that will happen anytime soon. Patch is right - just look at the MAC (not MAAC) schools - most of them have dropped their athletic programs to skeletons to keep raising Fball profile.
  12. Sorry for new thread - should merge this into OCC or just delete
  13. Marist #3 Midmajor - big test for the women Thursday.
  14. Thanks for the tip on the broadcast. On our sloppiness, it seems like there is almost always a huge letdown after the Siena game. Let's hope the team picks it up in the second half. Rotten AEast feed keeps freezing up
  15. Sienna & UA are very different places Academically and Athletically and in some cases that is better or worse. With no Graduate program to speak of Siena is a nice place for nice average kids to go. UA has big problems with student / professor ratio but the academic profile is better, the diversity at UA is much better and awesome, and the research is continuing to improve and obviously in some areas - top notch. Don't let any private school pundit fool you - New York gives more aid to private colleges than ALL OTHER STATES COMBINED = Bundyaid - look it up in the nys budget. Just wait and see how our UA explodes as our endowment - a relatively new idea at NYS Colleges, grows to support the mission. TAKE PRIDE - more 1st gen college students GRADUATE from UA than any other college in the state - even our much larger brothers at UB and Stony. Athletically, the difference is easy to see. Besides Bball and an occasional anomaly, UA Athletics is the pride of the capital region. As our facilities improve the region will come around to that conclusion as well. there is no comparison between the schools, no reason to low ball them but also no reason not to crow loud about UA.
  16. Fun game - not bad for first game! I really liked some of the frosh flash - how about that fake hand off / slam dunk! Lots of positives tonight but biggest put to rest worry - nice PG play!
  17. Just stay at Wolf's 1-11 - get there for the women's game and take a seat away from $ienna fans - UA Alum owned! Nothing goes to $ienna from there. Will the games be on broadcast live or the next day?
  18. Thanks for the nice 5k / run walk promos! The event went well with over 140 finishers and the course reviews were positive - the walk was a bit boring - just 2 loops around the practice fields but many just kept going around the pond anyway. The run was a challenge having to go up that hill on the far side of the pond to Indian quad twice! It was the same course as the women's college course. Anyway we raised over $1K for the CRC with help from Krackler Scientific, Alumni Association, UAS, the XC / T&F teams and athletic dept! We are now in the process of getting a major sponsor at $10K to get better marketing and bigger numbers so we can get the CRC some real $ and start Homecoming off with a big / fun / healthy event. Anyone with corporate contacts ( not the usual suspects like CDPHP - we don't want to compete) or deep pockets lol - please get in touch.
  19. A visit this afternoon gets a big thumbs UP! Boxes are nice upstairs, didn't test the seats due to the rain but it all looks and feels like a great day for the great danes.
  20. I am surprised too. Buffalo doesn't need to rally around SUNY or New York IMHO. It is a great university and was a fine college pre-SUNY days as well. Although I cheer the most for UA, I have a degree from both UA and Buffalo, and I still think Buffalo sets the bar in the SUNY system academically and in athletics. Until we have AAU membership and are in a FBS conference, anyone will have a hard time convincing me otherwise. Edit: Why don't we play Buffalo in any sports? I wish we would. We compete against them in T&F - fairly even programs. They only get East for a couple competitions a year.
  21. Regarding fund raising strategies - Remember that the University has many fund raising efforts going on at any one time. They try hard to organize the efforts so as not to overwhelm regular donors and not compete against each other for corporate / small business ... . Because of this Athletics is not always in control of the fund raising it's allowed to do.
