  1. may have to find a bar in 'toga and bribe them to get this game on thanks for comments, keep em coming so I can "see" the game
  2. nice 1/2 - if the ladies take care of the ball - reduce turnovers this is their game
  3. The bigs looked tight - missing layups / jump hooks early then seemed to drop out of O once the Aussies came in. Once again, Iati provides spark in first half - they ran some nice off ball screens for him early.
  4. 1. Indoor multi use facility w/ student rec., open field and of course - INDOOR TRACK
  5. ahhh hell, serious! i've never even checked that - just have it for the kids games and Netflix!
  6. Roger sounds ok but his sidekick sounds like he's on the roof. Can't adjust the volume correctly
  7. I'm watching it as well...looks big-time. BTW...so glad we won't have a track around our field. and T&F is so glad not to have straight lines on it's infield!
  8. I'd like to add a few thoughts: 1. Any facility built needs to have a student recreation and community participation aspect built in or it is DOA. That being said: 2. "Field" sports need their own turf practice facility without a track (which makes it expensive) but perhaps incorporating some student recreational facilities - climbing wall, fitness room, multipurpose rooms for yoga, martial arts, dance type stuff. 3. An indoor track / Tennis facility (see BU) seperately, also with student recreation facilities. A quality indoor track has been shown (by me) to be revenue neutral and perhaps even positive. Every high school team in 100 mile radius would be there every weekend and some weekdays from November - March and top prep student-athletes from NYC area and Boston would visit us often. Not a bad deal. 4. Combine these into a multi level complex (necessary for our cramped campus I think) and you have world class, professionally purposed facilities the envy of all.
  9. Just heard the Ortman twins went 1, 3 at the Fordham Invy at Van Cortland Park in NYC. Lets hope our football men can beat on Fordham the same way in the second half.
  10. Unbelievable performance! You may see some of these student-athletes in the Olympics, yes they are that good right here at UA. If you know anything about T&F you must check out the results to believe the doubles, triples, quads that many individuals stepped up to. Congrats to Roberto and his staff for getting the most out of the team to win again! Three championships in one year (the women were second indoor).
  11. Hope the UA T&F squad has as much fun and success in Philadelphia as our Bball brethren! Franklin field at UPenn will host athletics ranging from Olympians to elementary age tag relay races, high school & college Championship of America races along side Special Olympians and everyones favorite - the 80years old+ 100 m. They are unbelievable! Outside Olympic events you may never see a stadium packed for T&F in the US other than the Penn Relays. http://www.trackshark.com/photos/2005/penn/ 2 weeks to Championships in NH!
  12. This team is really shaping up. The throwers continue to impress as Ritshell Verdier of Longwood HS on the Island break the disc record and wins the SP. Isabella Katsarellis breaks her record in the jav. Mike Lynch takes a huge leap in his disc throwing with a 160' toss still hampered a bit by his cast. Down in NC the distance guys did well and Corrina Hengen starts showing her promise in the vault with a 10' 10" performance. Word is that the men's 4 X 1 and 4 x 4 placed two teams ahead of everyone else. Depth, quality - a few more quality recruits and the women should be winning as many championships as the men! Apparently a couple of quality prospects were up this weekend. Keep watching for these guys - home comp. April 22nd.
  13. The T&F team continues to do great things: http://www.albany.edu/sports/stories.htm#puertorico06 The jav. throw is tremendous! Remember that this kid hadn't thrown outside until Friday. How many freshman qualified for Jr. Nationals? They've never had more than one in any year in the past. I can only imagine what this squad could do with a proper indoor facility such as BU (Boston) and Northeastern has. Let's get that Fball stadium built already so we can get on with the other projects!
  14. Thanks Alum 72 & 73! Cudo's to Alum Association for their work. I'll be there. Any after game festivities planned? Chickie’s & Pete’s Café South Philly 1526 Packer Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19145 (215) 218-0500 UAlbany Alumni Association Pregame Party 4 – 6:30 PM Friday, March 17, 2006 Private Room with televisions and bar. Complementary Beer, Wine and Soft Drinks. Complementary food including: caesar salad, famous crab fries, pizza, chickie’s cutlets, hot roast beef and roast pork sandwiches. 13134[/snapback]
  15. Anyone know the area? I'm getting in via train a couple hours before the game and then not leaving 'till 5:15 Am the next day! What time do philly bars close and where's a good place to go near the stadium or the train station (on Market street near college town (Drexel, UPenn, ...) If anyone knows the metro train / subway lines - what's the best way to get from Amtrak station to Wachovia center? See you all there!
  16. In almost every category Buffalo is the main campus in NY. Size, funding, # of degree programs including BA, BS, MA, MS, and Dr. offered, time DI, # of $ sports DI. It seems to be Albany's gift to far western NY each year and the rest of the campuses get shafted due to an annual rise in prison, k-12, and helath care spending. Buffalo is also in a more difficult conference than AEast and have taken their lumps year after year. I would love to see a game against them to get a more accurate measure. However, unlike most states that have one or two (Michigan & Michigan State) main campuses (defined as universities that offer doctoral programs) there are four "main" campuses in our system plus Cornell. None of the branches (Cortland, Geneseo, ...) are DI in a major sport. In addition, NY spends more funding private colleges than all other states combined! State funding for public facilities on our campuses thus is severely restricted. That is why fund raising has become so aggressive over the past decade. We are a public school battling in a private and very competitive market. That brings some advantages (highly subsidized tuition) and disadvantages (less flexible spending, marketing, slow pace of the STATE). So limits to the program have many systemic roots that need to be dealt with / around. Take the RACC for example. It had to be a multipurpose facility in order to get any funding from the state and a sep. facility for T&F was not an option even though nobody was happy with the track being there. How many DI bball programs have to deal with the T&F team running around, shooting of guns, shouting, ... at the same time practice is going on? Lastly, about the RACC being adequate. Go to any of the older urban schools and take a look at what they had and often still play in. Seton Hall's gym is a tiny box with raised stands and couldn't hold more than 1,000? They don't play big games there anymore but as of '95 they still practiced there and played minor games there. The RACC is fine for now and until the season ticket holders number close to Siena's numbers then we should stick with it so rough seasons can be weathered with out a loss at a big rented stadium aka Pepsi. Believe it or not Purple Fans, there will be some down years and that needs to be a part of the planning.
