  1. Another game lost because we couldn't stop the bleeding. 15-0 run. Tied at 52 to 67-52
  2. Damn. Call and offensive foul that was clearly not live or on the replay, but then make it up for us with a make up call the next time down. Refs kinda suck. That push out of bounds was way less than what Beagle was called for a flagrant for last game. I forgot how bad these guys are in the Northeast mid major games. Definitely keeping closer than I thought, but FAU -14 looks about right.
  3. While we are doomed for another 2-3 win year with GG, it's not because of the recruits. Some real nice names here. I'd love to see them come and make the capital region proud. Hopefully they will still be here the year after with a new head coach and system.
  4. When I started this line of conversation, I wasn't considering Florida State the biggest of upsets considering how down they are this season, just that it's big enough of a win to show that they are decent enough this year to win some games. They are better than I thought they'd be. While still embarrassed to lose to them, it feels a little better.
  5. LCC beat Florida State today.... by 17. Our run to a big lead, then eventual collapse might not look as terrible. It's always terrible losing to that craphole, but at least they have shown the ability to beat some high end teams.
  6. Thank you for getting that online. Definitely looked like a stretch for a flagrant. There was contact, but it looks like Beagles hand was jumped into, not a push. Anyway you can post the aftermath as well? The commentators, and replay?
  7. Too bad this game is this year. Would be way better to have it at a brand new SEFCU. Would get a big crowd and be a great way to highlight the new digs.
  8. Wanted to see how bad the Big South Conference is to validate or dispute Jimbos post. That league looks better than the AE this year, but Presby is in the bottom of it. We are ranked 326 this year according the Bart Torvik. Not sure we've had a team ranked this low since .... Since.... Since 2003?
  9. Still hanging in there apparently. Not sure if anyone noticed, but UVM only scored 14 in the second half against Yale today. They were winning at the half and lost 29...
  10. Not watching or listening because of current location, but did I see ANOTHER technical foul from this team? Looks like it happened after a Beagle Dunk. Running his mouth and "woofing" at the opponent again?
  11. Definitely watching what Markwood has seemed to do at Maine already (they could be top 3-4 in the league this year). I watched their game against Columbia and they were truly impressive. Not just impressive compared to other Maine teams, I meant impressive on how the team moved and played in sync. You can tell they are well coached. He won't be at Maine long if he keeps this up. So with that in mind, you might be right having a short leash on your patience for DK, but you mention all his experience. His experience is as a recruiter and assistant coach. He hasn't had the full reigns or in game responsibilities he has now before to my knowledge. Not sure he even has with a high school or AAU team. It's one thing to be an assistant and learn the ropes, but an entirely different thing to be the final word and the one ultimately responsible for motivation, clarity, and the entire game. The above said, some people are better leaders and others are better suited to be assistants. Killings has displayed all the things needed to be a successful head coach in press conferences, podcasts, blogs, etc. I maintain he has been a great recruiter for athletes. He seems to attract a higher level athlete than we ever really did under WB. Yet to be seen if his recruits are at all as good actual players and the same level of basketball IQ, but they are definitely more athletic. He just hasn't shown the coaching chops on the court yet. Not sure we get a player like Reddish under Brown. Only one close I can think of might have been Wheeler Baker. Either way, let's all hope he is able to bring this group together and be competitive in conference season. This next month is probably gonna be rough, and we will be lucky to enter conference play with more than 1 or 2 division 1 wins at this point. Not sure any of us expected much more than that pre-season anyway. Hopefully this prepares them well for league play.
  12. So Colonial Quad sized school. That is a crazy statistic. I'd think other small schools probably have a similar percentage if they have as diverse offerings. Not sure how many schools are around that are that small.
  13. Probably more than any of us will give credit for, but at the end of the day it should be zero. Basketball is all encompassing mentally and should be the escape from the off the court stuff.
  14. Just wanted to highlight this again. This is the biggest area DK needs to improve as a coach. We have played extremely well in long stretches of each and every game, and shown that we have not been outclassed by anyone. We have had leads in every game that the team just could not protect. Even the St. Joes game, as UA won that game if only the first 10 minutes could have been erased. Hard to come back from being down 35-6. Killings needs to figure out how to get these guys to perform when the other team is raining shots. How to get them out of a funk and play together to stop the bleeding. EVERY GAME there is a stretch that kills us. They have the talent. We have seen it. We have a strong roster, even without Neely. Obviously better with him than without, but this team should win games. I am betting that this team puts it together for a whole game and beats a team that they have no business beating. One of the games like UMass, Providence, Loyola, or Virginia. Everyone will be scratching their head and wondering how it happened. I see the talent on the floor to do it. Just need one game where the wheels don't fall off for a 10 minute stretch. This is only year 2 of DK's career as a head coach. I'll give him some slack and some time to figure it out. In my mind he has at least until the end of next season. WB got 5 to learn the ropes as a new program. DK took over an established program, so he only gets 3. WB needed talent and to figure out how to coach. DK just needs the coaching chops.
  15. Interesting. I think that overall FG% includes 3's in the %, but I can't read the charts on Mobile. The volume of 3 pointers is as high as I can ever remember it though, and that also brings down the overall FG%. I could probably spend the time to see how close the team is within each of the ranges I mentioned, but I'd argue that we are probably fairly close to the above numbers. It does feel like we've missed a ton of close shots that rattle around the rim and don't fall. Opponents are shooting above 40% from 3 against us, so I'll go back to our three point defense not being good, leading to us making more in practice against our own defense, leading to over confidence with the three, leading to too many taken in the game. I listened to the game on the radio because I won't pay for flosports again, at least until a change is made with the football program, so I can only go with what Weiland said on the air. There were at least 2 plays that an easy layup was passed up for an open outside shot. Those account for pretty big swings when the other team gets the rebound and scores in transition. The last one was while AP was on their run. That's where we need to stop the bleeding with points. Take the two!
  16. I know it is the way the current game of basketball is played, but the old adage still holds water... Within 0-5 feet of the hoop you should make 70%+ Within 5-15 feet of the hoop you should make 50%+ Within 15-20 feet of the hoop you should make 40%+ Within 21 feet of the hoop (3pt) you should make 35%+ Team should shoot 75-80% from the free throw line overall (realizing some bigs will be in the 60% range, while some guards will be in the 90% range) If the team can shoot 50% overall for 2 - that's 10 points on 10 shots, while 35% from 3 would be about 10 points on 10 shots (between 9-12). Actually the 2 pointers in this example should be 10-12 because of potential "and one's" on made shots or 2 shot fouls on the misses. It doesn't feel like we are making anywhere close to 35% from three, even though that's what the stats say. Probably still skewed by the d3 games as it's only 5 games so far. I am just rambling, but the thing I was trying to get to is that it feels like we are taking about twice as many three point attempts as we should be. Passing up good close shots and layups to pass for an open three pointer. Our opponents are currently shooting over 40% for three, so maybe our three point defense just sucks so badly that our guys are making a lot more in practice against their own defense than against opponents. This is giving them too much confidence against teams that defend outside better. The biggest problem, IMHO, is the inability to stop an opponents run and just get a basket to end a scoreless streak. This is where passing up an easier shot for a three is killing the team. Sure a three might pump up the team get them going, but if we are in a cold shooting moment and missing, pound it inside. Drive to the hoop. Get an easy one. Missing a three leading to the other team scoring is a pretty big swing from a made layup.
  17. Play tomorrow night at 8:30 against the loser of the game that is happening now, I believe. (Bucknell or Presbyterian)
  18. 100% agree. Thus my post on giving time to DK to learn and grow as a head coach instead of calling for his head now. The ability to calm and inspire your team takes time to learn. (disclaimer: unless the lawsuit brings out more than what we know today and isn't just sour grapes for an incident that I don't think was that bad the way it has been explained to me)
  19. UA was up 6 a few minutes earlier. UA scored only 2 points in the last 5 minutes. If the 10 minute streak of terrible play continues, the first 5 minutes of tomorrow night are going to be rough.
  20. Unless the lawsuit brings out more proof of wrongdoing, I'm not calling for a new coach yet. It takes time for a new coach to figure stuff out. It took brown 5 years before he won. Obviously DK is in a different spot than Brown was, but I have some patience with his growth as a coach. I'd just like to see some more in game adjustments made. Injuries have handcuffed the talent both seasons so far. A good coach will fight through those, identify the strength and weaknesses the team has, and make the adjustments needed to maximize the results. It takes time for a head coach to understand how to do that early in their career. In my mind, this team needs to spend more time attacking the rim to open up the outside. Getting to the line more often. Remember the days when the goal was to make more foul shots than the other team attempts? Do that and the threes are easier to make. Killings biggest weakness right now is the ability to calm the team down and get them to fight through another teams run and counter punch. Continue to play their game without panicking and moving to hero isolation ball. It's been on display in the last 10 minutes if the Siena game, the first 10 minutes of the St. Joe's game, and the last 10 minutes of this game. We've had no answer to stop the bleeding. If you have the talent, and I believe this team does, then this is 100% on the coach.
  21. When does this UA team realize that they aren't a three point shooting team and focus on penetration?
  22. $250k or $125k? Guess we can't afford to buy him out. No players want to come play for a lame duck coach, so I guess we need to offer him another extension a year early. I mean that's the only way to keep and attract players. That's the smart thing to do right? Right? LOL
  23. I knew UA had some great teams under Doc Sauers (who had a brief appearance in the documentary) but Potsdam was a different level back then. From 1979 to 1987 the appeared in the National title game 5 times, winning 2, and they got upset in the "elite 8", ending their 60 game win streak after being screwed and having to play on the lower ranked teams home floor - while they were ranked #1 in the country. Think they made the Final 4 for D3 9 times in that era. Was a cool spot/time for me to grow up as a basketball fan. Throwing toilet paper rolls onto the floor after the first Potsdam basket. Having a packed house with 3-4k fans at every game in a tiny town. I went to UA in the mid 90s, and reconnected with the School when the 06 team put a scare into UConn. Had my first season tickets the Hooley shot year, and became a hopelessly addicted fan when SEFCU Arena was rocking every game. That was what I was used to as kid growing up and attending games. That excitement and electric atmosphere at every tip. Standing room only at every Clarkson Hockey game at Cheel arena, even the worst games of the year were packed. UA brought me back to those days while we were averaging over 4k fans for the good games and close to 4k a game for the whole season just a few short years ago. I loved giving my kids that same experience. These last few years have been getting sadder and sadder attendance and record wise. I can only hope that the school can turn around and bring us back to the exciting packed house days soon, especially with the SEFCU renovation.
  24. Still blows my mind that a SUNY School won multiple basketball national championships, played in the national championship game multiple times, and had a run they did. They lost in the National championship game, trying to get their second, but then went on to win 60 straight games, and had what I think is still the only d3 undefeated season. It's a different world today.
