Just keep winning and the polls will take care of themselves. Finishing with only 1 loss against FCS opponents would be key to high rankings.

7. UAlbany 23
I was surprised to see UAlbany picked to finish this low in the poll. The Great Danes had a terrific offseason, even with the loss of Gerald Drumgoole.
Jonathan Beagle is one of the best big men in the conference. Guards Sebastian Thomas, Amar’e Marshall and Tyler Bertram should really help. Marshall oozed potential in his limited minutes last season at Hofstra, and he should thrive under Dwayne Killings.
Aaron Reddish and Marcus Jackson are also back in the picture for Albany, and Justin Neely returns from injury to provide another high-impact piece.

This was basically planned. The first game at the new arena was always on 11/29 and the game against Army was always at a Neutral Site.
Nothing new to report here other than we know where that game is being played now. At least it is local.

I missed the zoom tonight for a work issue. Anyone attend? How did it go?

So, if you are not going to follow UAlbany Sports on Instagram, you going to miss some things. What do you really need know?... where & when the game is going to be played and the game's result.
Just rambling...
Don't even have an instagram account. I used to, but I just never found the site worthwhile. I have absolutely zero interest in using the site.
What do I need to know beyond when/where/result? I don't know. It seems in past years there have been articles on individual players, their backgrounds, their personal stories. What compels us to want to root for them? How does the team look so far? Is there internal excitement? Do they think the team will surprise and exceed expectations? Who will get minutes? I don't know. Anything. Something. Obsessed fans are starving.

I am a little surprised about the coverage as well. But maybe that's what you get when you were one of the worse teams in the country last year. Need to build hope, hopefully that starts this year.
Several people answered my bitch complain. I completely get the lack of fan interest. What I don't get is the lack of press interest. To me that screams one of two things.... Either the TUseless and the gazette realize that no one cares and haven't assigned anyone to write stuff, or the school has been closed lipped and isn't providing info for them to report on.
Stuff like having only 2 days notice for the Purple and Gold scrimmage and very few if any advertisements for tickets and the season. Maybe they are posting on Instagram? There is almost nothing on Twitter (x) or Facebook. Instagram can go F itself BTW.
Zero hype.
Does the school expect another brutal season? Maybe that's why they and the press are so silent.

So it's just over 2 weeks until the season starts. Is it me, or does this season mark a new low of pre-season coverage, chat, interest, etc....
Who is going to start? What are expectations for this season? What is the team going to look like? Who spent the summer in the gym and looks different? Rumors about the team? Crickets everywhere.
The last few years have had less preseason press and info than the WB years, but even last year the Gazette ran multiple preseason articles about the team. There were media days. I haven't seen anything in weeks.

Anyone attend? Any feedback or thoughts?
I always loved going to this and seeing the new players for the first time. Watching walk-ons look like potential stars. Getting a feel for what the team is going to look like. I wish they had given more than 2 days notice.

Where was this announced? I haven't seen it anywhere yet. Is the public allowed?
I probably won't go, but I'd love to

No idea where to put this, so here is as good as any...

Not the best proofread article.
Offensive player of the week?

Watching. Team looks good. Dropped return right before the half hurt, but not too much damage. Hopefully they keep up the intensity in the second half.

I cant wait for the seat selection nights. I am still beyond torn. Looks like the purple seats have more rows behind the players than on the opposite side. Id way rather sit across from the benches than behind them. I'll probably end up in the white seats, as I'd love to be in a similar spot to where I was ... center court, mid/lower level. Closer to the floor, but high enough where the media table doesn't block much view. The bottom row of the purple section behind the benches looks great, and will probably be desirable. Would be perfect if mirrored across the floor instead of those 2 row sections.
To me, the number 1 factor in seat selection is view of the floor. I want to be as close as possible to center court, and a few rows up to have a good view of the entire floor. Courtside is fun every so often, but I don't like the view nearly as much. After view, I guess the new amenities will make the biggest difference. I heard a rumor that they will be getting licensed to sell adult beverages in the arena. Do you have to be in the purple to buy them/have them at your seat? I really could care less about the buffet or having a dedicated concession line. I'm there for the game, not some old pasta, but it would be nice to have an adult beverage while watching.

That's a pretty glowing write up.

Makes sense. With Juncaj and Simon #1 and #2 in FCS per that link above, and both being Seniors, I'm sure every team is watching. Throw in a QB that has a memorable name putting together big stats and I wouldn't be surprised to see reps from teams at each of the remaining home games.

Can't believe I just started a thread for 2027....
Someone get this kid an offer. Gotta get credit for being 1st - if he doesn't already have other offers in place. Scored 1000 points on a HS Varsity team as a 13/14 year old 8th grader. Could break JG3's NYS High School scoring record if he stays in the public school system. Yes it is section X and that area isn't exactly known for D1 level talent, but this kid seems like the real deal....

Just seems that there are people who post that cannot live in the moment....they mention the overall record, forgetting all those accumulative things that occurred which contributed to the record...so be it.
Removing my comment because it's not really the right spot for this type of conversation.

I'm excited for the team this year. The defense looks amazing. The line is giving Poff time to make plays. They look like they could go back to the playoffs and surprise many.

In today's mid major world, recruiting freshman is a scary prospect. You know that a large percentage will transfer out for their senior year, if not earlier. Sure Beagle might stay for year 3, but I don't think any of us expect him to be here for year 4.
Freshman bigs rarely make an impact. Yes Beagle did, but he is an oddity at this level. I hope we have another player of his size and potential come in as a freshman that can learn from him for one year, then take over when he leaves to play at a major program his senior year.
Guards seem to be a dime a dozen at the mid major level. Very little skill wise seems to separate the all league players from the bench warmers. Heart, IQ, and coaching seem to be that difference. The guards we have brought in over the last 4-5 years, including under WB, don't seem all that different skill wise. Most were relatively highly recruited, good students, who had high ceilings that never materialized. To me that's coaching. I hope the infusion of another strong voice will help that. Someone who will not only coach the players, but also help coach DK on how to connect as a leader. IMO DK has been too nice and friendly with the players instead of tough love fatherly to the players. Never really changing from the assistant mindset to the head coach mindset. Hoping that Whitesell helps him transition that part of the job.

Seems like an excellent signing. Looks like the kid can do a little bit of everything.
They still need "shooters". Guys who can put the ball in the hoop consistently. The 3 pointer is the great equalizer and has been a huge part of the game. Last year we lacked that, appears this year we will as well. Neely and Beagle will be bangers down low but we really need to recruit outside guys who can finish consistently.
In today's world, we need to continually recruit all positions and always get the best available athlete/player. Today's strength is tomorrow's hole thanks to the portal.

Looks strange to me that the purple seats are up top? The seats I actually want are in the white section meaning on $75/seat donation? Feels like good news at the moment. Guess I'll have to see what makes the purple seats worth more before I decide. I'd rather be closer to the game than the concessions.
I've heard there will be expanded beer wine and soda in the arena now. Maybe you have to be in the purple to get an adult drink?

The thing I don't like about ROI rankings is that they don't (or at least they didn't in the past) take into account market adjustments. Schools that have a disproportionately high percentage of their grads work in NYC/Long Island are going to show a better ROI if the tuition is similar. I'd rather make $100k a year in Albany than $100k a year in NYC....

Doesnt look like seats are installed yet in half the arena ... Does the Nov 7-9 dates for seat selection still seem realistic?
Any idea when the team will be able to start practicing on the floor?
