  1. Used screen casting to watch on the big screen. Quality was great.

I thought they played well and looked like the better team for long stretches of the game. Great showing against an FBS team.

Looking like we might have a decent season in the CAA and exceed preseason expectations.

  2. I have no inside look at the production, and don't have a leg to stand on, but I can say that I have run the scoreboard and audio system at a baseball field. I used an app on my android phone and tablet to record a ton of comments, player introductions mixed with their chosen songs for walk-up music, common things that would be said on the PA during the game, sound effects like broken glass for a foul ball, all the things you would expect from a high end stadium. Then it wouldn't matter if I was running the booth or if someone else was, the user just had to push the right button at the right moment.

I recently thought about using one of those AI generators to redo some of my audio clips with Bob Sheppard's voice so that the kids would get the Yankee Stadium treatment LOL. I know some apps let you pay for MLB or NFL stadium announcers to record your intros.

It would surprise me if they didn't use something similar - hopefully way upgraded - at the games. Consistent sounds, tones, inflections, etc. They probably were just hitting the wrong button, or they need to rerecord the third down vocals.

  3. I know the chances of a win are extremely small, but I'd love to see it kept close and a game. Local rag covering Marshall calling it a glorified scrimmage for their team is good locker room fodder....

  4. The message board has been dead with all the negativity around the entire Athletic Department, so I started this thread in an attempt to some people talking about positive stuff or even just talking about something other than scandal and losing games. I miss the days when the board was active, but I think message boards just dont get many fans anymore. Those of us that dont use Instagram or X (Twitter) are pretty much left out in the cold.

Thank you all who still come here and post and chat. Make predictions and comment on the happenings. It makes us addicted fans happy to see new info!

  5. I kinda like the roster at the moment. There is size with Beagle and the incoming Giralt. I think Reddish will have a break out season if he can keep his emotions in check, and I think there are enough guards to figure out what works. This does not look like a last place team, and really is constructed in a way that could surprise a lot of people and actually contend. I'm gonna guess middle of the pack, which would be a huge step up from last seasons disaster.

My questions: Will we ever see anything out of Amica or Little? Both have talent but haven't been able to put it together for one reason or another (injuries) and what will Neely be when he is ready to play again. Then the elephant in the room: Will DK become a decent in game coach instead of what appears to be a strong recruiter. His teams have under achieved relative to the expected talent two straight seasons....

  6. So it looks like the roster is now finalized and the students are back on campus. While practice doesn't begin for a few weeks, the schedule is out and the season is getting close. Last year was a terrible year. Last place, no AE playoffs in a season played at HVCC...

This is a new season with an extremely new roster, and the opening of the renovated SEFCU arena, now called Broadview Center.

What are everyone's expectations for the season? Any predictions for the team or the AE in general?

    Roster:

    Guards: (1/2)

    • Will Amica (Jr. - Returning)
    • Ny'Mire Little (Jr. - Returning)
    • Marcus Jackson (So. - Returning Walk-on)
    • Tyler Bertram (Sr. - Transfer)
    • Sebastian Thomas (Jr. - Transfer)
    • Amar'e Marshall (So. - Transfer)
    • Zane Adnan (Fr.)
    • Zack Matulu (Fr. - Walk-on)

    Wing: (2/3/4)

    • Aaron Reddish (Jr. - Returning)
    • Justin Neely (Jr. - Returning, may have gotten a medical redshirt last season)
    • Muneer Newton (Jr. - Transfer)
    • Jack Margoupis (Fr)

    Bigs (4/5)

    • Jonathan Beagle (So. - Returning)
    • Marcus Filien (Sr. - Transfer)
    • Patrico Bautista Giralt (Fr.)

WOW! Fascinating; but what's your point. Play in front of 250 fans per game. That will go along way in getting good recruits and building back to a quality program🤑.

You are certainly welcome to your opinion {not sure what it is by your post}; but a lot of us simply DO NOT feel what is happening now is working??

My point was that there are revenue requirements and the hardest part of the job of the athletic department is to figure out where they get the most revenue. Cutting prices doesnt really add enough fans to make up for the lost revenue. Everyone keeps saying to make it cheaper, but with an arena that fits under 4000 fans, they have to have prices high enough to cover expenses. Figure out that sweet spot with the most fans and the most revenue.

  8. People saying basic economics mean they should lower price. It seems that there is a misunderstanding in one piece:

The price/demand/supply is a curve. There is an optimal level to maximize revenue. One might argue that because the team is back to being a "startup" the smart move is to forgo some revenue and take the loss as an investment in the future, but that only goes so far when funds are needed today.

    • $5/ticket = 3,500 fans = $17,500 in ticket sales
    • $10/ticket = 3,000 fans = $30,000 in ticket sales
    • $20/ticket = 2000 fans = $40,000 in ticket sales
    • $30/ticket = 1500 Fans = $45,000 in ticket sales
    • $40/ticket = 1,000 fans = $40,000 in ticket sales
    • $50/ticket = 600 fans = $30,000 in ticket sales
    • $100/ticket = 250 fans = $25,000 in ticket sales

The School gets $0 from concession sales, as they just rented space to a vendor for guaranteed dollars no matter how many show up (at least it used to be - no idea if it will remain that way in the future)

If the above scenario of the price/supply/demand curve is correct, I'd argue that $20ish is the correct price to maximize fans and revenue. Dropping the ticket cost to $0 wouldn't add any additional fans.

  9. Looks like BU is the home opener for Broadview? There is a piece of trivia for us moving forward. Not a huge fan of D2 or D3 games, and yes there is no traditional blue blood on the schedule, but it is not an easy schedule. UMass, Seton Hall, Temple, Drexel, and South Florida are all difficult games against widely known names. Pretty weak only having 3 D1 games at home in the OOC, but I guess with the construction having potential delays and the need for the team to make some money in the OOC it makes sense. Let's hope for an 8-7 OOC (7-7 vs D1). I think at this point that would be a good goal considering the last two seasons and not really knowing what we have as a team.

  10. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a coach was mean to me and pushed me while trying to get me and the rest of the team pumped up after losing a bunch of games to open the year. Waahhhhhaaa he hurt me real bad and caused me to bleed, but I was still ok to play multiple minutes in that game. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I couldn't turn the situation into a scholarship I didn't deserve, so I guess I'll sue. waaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Until a court of law or actual witnesses say otherwise, this is what I choose to believe. You are free to have your own take on it, just like everyone else is.

Until there is more REAL CONCRETE INFO any further speculation in this thread is an utter waste of time.

  11. Agreed on LAX, thus me mentioning it in my response. I just see the ceiling of revenue and potential profitability of LAX as being lower than basketball and football. Being good in those sports can bring in more revenue from TV, Buy Games, and NCAA Shares than LAX does. While lacrosse is increasing in national recognition, I don't see it passing FB and MBB nationally anytime soon.  It is definitely a top 3 long term, and as you state could be #1 or #2 today.

Most of us would agree the indoor track and practice field is priority 1 after phase 1 of the SEFCU reno.

Most, not all of us. My son is picking colleges based on Track and Field opportunities, so I totally get that revamping those facilities is important. I am living it right now when visiting schools with him. He might not make a D1 track program, but the facilities available to him and the programs stature is part of his decision matrix.

I still think priority 1 is improving the football and basketball facilities (and to a lesser extent LAX) to stage 2 or stage 3 is more important long term. Having those teams have facilities that sell out and bring in recruits to win games will ultimately bring in more money to support the non-revenue generating sports. Unless we can pull a Binghamton and get a rich baseball alum or Track and Field alum endow a facility improvement, the school needs to win and draw fans in those revenue sports. That will improve everything else faster, at least in my opinion.

Looks great. I'm in Albany visiting for the week and have been on campus but didn't get a chance to try and peak through the doors to see if anything can be seen.

Side note: anyone know why the school stopped doing the little fountain 'show' at 10PM at the LC? Used to have lights and varying water height for 10 minutes or so at 10PM and stopped doing it before COVID and didn't do it again today. My wife and I spent many a summer night chilling by the fountain playing card games in the evenings when we were dating/just married.

Could be different now, but when I went to school they didn't do any of the fountain shows over the summer when normal classes weren't in session.

  14. Anyone have any idea when the season tickets will start to go on sale and when returning ticket holders will have the chance to pick their new seats? I made a GDAC donation last week to get it into the fiscal year and I hope it was enough to not have to wait too long. I really want to be in the same type of spot I've had in SEFCU for the last 8 or 9 years.

  15. I'm still surprised that the floor is down. I would have thought that it would have been one of the last things to get put down.

The baseline looks real close to the overhanging seats. I don't remember, but are there going to be seats going down to the ground along the baselines like before?

Thanks for the images. Definitely wets the appetite for this upcoming season.

I know people are going to disagree with this , however,  I really don't think this is a good team.  I guess if Neely comes back full strength and takes a huge step, and Beagle takes a huge step, we might be ok.

For this reason I really don't like this schedule so far. I believe next years schedule should have been an easier schedule to get the teams confidence going.  Getting beaten 30 by good teams does nothing.  Make this schedule when you have a good team, not a team coming off a last place finish .

No argument here. The team looks pretty solid on paper, but frankly it's 100% unknown how they will play, and it would be foolish to have any expectations beyond a finish near the bottom of the league.

That said, they return the last two rookies of the year, plus an all-rookie team guy and a guy I think deserved to be on the all rookie team. Add in a few good recruits and a few good transfers and you have the recipe for a good team. Add in the fact that there are multiple "local" kids on the team with the renovated arena and you have the recipe for strong home attendance.

I hope they fill the early OOC with D1 teams that we can beat and build a strong record in the early season. That should get people to attend the games, and when we lose as expected to some of the power programs on the schedule later in the OOC it shouldn't kill any fan base momentum.

    YES.

    AND also should be working on playing an even number of home/road OOC games every year. WHY renovate Broadview and WHY buy season tickets only to see other AmEast teams, a couple DIIs & IIIs, and maybe 2-3 mid/low major DI teams {if we are lucky?}

Long term, im sure that's the plan. Short term, I'm ok with 5-6 OOC at home and 7-8 on the road/neutral site... As long as the couple extra neutral site games are for $$$$.

Need the team to rebuild some momentum and winning results to be able to get enough butts in the seats to make more home games worth it.
