  1. Great teachable moment for my kids who attended tonight. Although the refs blew as many calls as I have seen in a while and the crowd was on them, they had nothing to do with the loss. When my 8 year old tried to blame the refs at the end of the game, we had to have "the talk". That conversation where you explain that although the refs didn't help, the loss was because of lack of intensity. The loss was because of poor decision making and taking of bad shots. The loss was because the team didn't do what it was capable of for the first 30 minutes or the last 3 minutes.

Off my soapbox, and wow the refs totally did suck.

  2. Huerter taking over that game.

Back to this team, I do wish the bench would play more as well. I only pointed out where they stood in minutes per game as it doesn't look as bad as the total minutes played stat that had just been shared.

You obviously want your best players on the floor as much as possible, but Cremo always seems way more efficient in games he plays left. Without looking up the actual stats, I think I remember Cremo scoring the most in the games he played the least amount of minutes. I think it was Yale?

Edit: It was Holy Cross. 30 points in 27 minutes.

  3.

From back when I was a student theyd stop checking tickets after a certain point. Not sure if thats the same. Also are they scanning tickets now or are they just ripping them and having a manually clicker to count?

Certainly disappointing and hurting ourselves with incorrect attendance numbers

When going in the back door from the SEFCU lot they scan tickets upon entry. Last night I went up to the HOF room for a pre-game beer, and just barely finished my beverage in time to make it back into the arena in time for the national anthem. There was still a real long line at the walk-up ticket counter of people buying tickets while the game started. It was definitely a late arriving crowd. Maybe they need to report the attendance as it was at tip?

  4. Call me a sissy but I'm so glad I get SEFCU parking. That walk from Dutch is gonna be B R U T A L. It's 4* w/ RealFeel at -16* right now. Will be colder at 7PM or at 9PM when leaving. No thanks.

I'll echo this comment. SEFCU parking makes this game much more attainable. I am betting attendance sucks tonight. Even if students were in town, I'm not sure how many would brave the brutal campus winds.

My wife and kids made last minute plans to go out of town, so I have 3 extra tickets. I found a few people interested in attending, but it's like pulling teeth to find 3 people that are interested in braving the cold. I still have 1 with multiple people saying no, and I wouldn't be surprised if either of the 2 that said they wanted to go cancel to stay cozy and warm at home.

  5. I know it is still early, but I was just looking at UVM's schedule vs the UA Schedule....

UVM is 1-4 right now against teams with a winning record

UA is 1-2 against teams with a winning record

It will might be a while before either team faces another team that will end the season with a winning record. Maybe UMBC and Bing finish above .500 for the year? Outside of UVM and UA, I think those are the only chances. What felt like a fairly good season for the conference in the preseason is now looking even more like the 2 and everyone else.

  6. I don't know that I even see a foul in that shot in the Rutgers game while last nights was very clear. I know it isn't fair, and should not be this way, but this game is a mid-major team vs. an ACC team on their home court. That game was at Rutgers. It shouldn't matter, but in the NCAA it is the way it goes. Flip the colors on the jerseys last night and that gets called 9 out of 10 times.

  7. I was thinking about the run against Memphis to compare it to last night. Fairly similar really. We got close or took the lead then promptly gave up a short burst of a run. I think last night was a quick 7-0 run to give the lead back to Louisville. The difference was last night we had both Campbell and Cremo hit key 3's near the end to keep us in striking distance, while those shots didn't fall against Memphis.

    Learn from it.

  8. How does a team request the officials look at the monitors to review a call? Who makes that decision?

Again, I am ok with no call there - but I am curious why they didn't look at it.

I just watched it again, and I think it did affect the shot. Looks like the foul happened at the moment of release and you can see very little rotation on the shot. It looks like the foul stopped his follow through. No spin means it better be a perfect swish or bank cause you aren't getting any roll.

  9. I have watched Campbell make 3 after 3 in warm-ups and I am told he makes most of them in practice as well, and this is why Brown hasn't put a leash on him. That said, it is painful watching him shoot them in games. He is shooting what? 18% from long distance this season so far?

I hope him hitting the one late will give him some confidence for the rest of the season. If he can be considered a real threat from there it will definitely open up the floor for everyone else.

While I understand the no call, it really hurts. Campbell shoots 80% from the line. Pretty good chance we are sending the game to OT or walking away with a win with him on the line shooting 3.

Here is an article from the Louisville perspective where the foul is admitted: https://www.cardchronicle.com/2017/12/20/16804630/louisville-survives-scare-tops-albany-70-68

  10. 100-1 payout if you bet Albany wins by more than 21

50-1 payout if you bet Albany wins between 10-13 points

22-1 payout if you be Albany wins by 1-2

18-1 payout if you bet Louisville wins by 1-2

6-1 payout for Louisville wins by 14-16

5-1 payout for Louisville wins by 17-20

4.5-1 payout for Louisville wins by 10-13

2-1 payout for Louisville wins by 21+

I skipped a bunch of the other options, but chose some of the even numbers to illustrate a point. The majority of the betting world thinks this will be a blowout win by Louisville and it will be a 21+ point loss.

They probably aren't wrong, but I am thinking that 7-1 with Louisville winning by 7-9 isn't a bad bet at those odds.

  11. $200 in giving for 4 basketball seats, times 0.8 = $160 tax deduction.

What that means to you will be determined by your tax bracket. If you are in a 30% bracket, that means you save $48 on your federal tax liability with the current system.

I'd you don't have enough deductions to itemize instead of using the standard deduction, then the change probably won't effect you at all.

I'm not an expert on the new system, but as I understand it many of the deductions many of us use will go away, but the brackets are wider with lower percentages. Most people will have a lower tax burden, but the higher income earners will see a higher savings in pure dollars. The percentages of savings is a difference story.

I don't want to get political on this site, but here is an amusing video to watch that explains that point on how the tax plan will be spun in terms most sports fans understand. BEER!

Video is old and has nothing to do with the Trump tax plan.

  12. Also, on the difference in polls, the Mid-Major Madness poll includes several conferences as "Mid-Major" that the College Insider Poll does not include.

Conferences not included in the college insider, but are in the MMMadness poll include: Mountain West, A10, and Conference USA to name the first few conferences I noticed.

The MMMadness Poll has UVM at 16 and UA at 31

The College Insider has UA at 5 and UVM at 26
