  1. Awesome for Mike. Many people were saying that he was ahead of Sam when comparing the end of each players sophomore seasons. Am I the only one looking forward to watching him bang around with Warney?
  2. Albany MBB makes its first appearance of the season in the mid-major top 25 at #25 SBU at #32
  3. Wish I could make it. Haven't been to Patrick in years. Although that place sucks for opposing teams, it can be a fun spot to watch a game. Unfortunately I'll be trying to watch on my phone during time outs of my sons game. I wonder which game I'll pay more attention to: the one I am coaching or the UA game, lol
  4. I guess you are right as far as official announcements from the school, but multiple websites show him as committed and he does us the UA logo on his twitter feed. I am guessing that it is offical, but you are right - until the university puts out a press release anything can happen. Thank you for confirming he isn't on campus. I know people were questioning that earlier in this thread. That's too bad on Brown. He seemed like a great kid on and off the court from all accounts I heard. I guess I was hoping he left for the season for some personal reason but could be back. Not that I was hoping he had a personal reason, more hoping that he would get to play for UA and we would get to see what he can do.
  5. BJ Jenkins was announced. Not sure if he is on campus now, but he is sitting out a year and should join the team for next season. The America East board has posted that Lamont Walker a JUCO transfer has committed to Albany over the holiday break as well, but it isn't on verbal committs yet. Then add red shirted McKinley and that looks like a strong incoming class. From discussions above, I assume that leaves anywhere from 1-3 slots left, depending on if Travis Charles returns (I hope so and have seen nothing otherwise, especially with him on the bench on Wednesday night) and what happens with Chas Brown. I don't know if he left the program for good or if it was just a temporary leave.
  6. And llko, that free throw you are mentioning made me laugh as well. You yelled at just the right moment where I am convinced that you made an impact. One of the worst free throws I have seen at the D1 level. Can't even call it a brick. It was long and wide and had a weird bounce of the backboard and rim. An airball would have been better.
  7. LOL. If you are who I think you are, I am just a few (maybe 2?) rows behind you a little closer to center court (by a few seats). I don't normally raise my voice and yell at the refs that much, because I sometimes have my 9 or 6 year old with me, but on a school night I normally bring a friend and last night was so bad I couldn't help myself. Could be where you sit? I got to listen to llko singing "One Way" all game to keep it exciting
  8. Crowd was pretty electric. I'm hoping the locals that came to see Wincowski vs Cremo and Stire for their first UA experience enjoyed it and come back for more games. I still can't get over how bad the refs were. At least yelling at the refs was fun. So many missed travel calls (on both sides) weird no calls one second followed by a ticky tacky foul. Still think there should have been a flagrant on Lyles after the Cremo steal. Seeing Singletary get called in a fouls when he wasn't even close to the play. Weird charge calls. Just disgusting. Hopefully we don't see those guys anytime soon.
  9. It looks like Charles is on the bench, yes. It looks like he lost about 20 lbs too.
  10. Does anyone know how many scholarships are open for next year? Is there 3, 4, or 5? We know that Hooley, Singletary, and Sanders lose eligibility. I hope that Travis Charles will be back as i feel he could be a beast come the end of AE play and in the playoffs, and I guess Chaz Brown wont be back. I will guess there are 4? With Jenkins and Walker, I guess there are 2 more? I am still rooting for Jakub Mijakowski will sign. I know people who met the family and they seem great. The kid seems to be able to shoot from anywhere on the court and at 6-8 he could be a star in the AE if not immediate impact like Cremo. I assume he will go higher, but I have to assume that Albany looks attractive to any recruit that isn't going to a top 25 team.
  11. Seems to be a recurring theme this year. Luckily the team was able to hold on... From the Cornell article above: Cornell used its pressure defense to make the Great Danes uncomfortable throughout the night, forcing 17 turnovers and holding Albany without a field goal over the game's final 6:13. The rally came just a bit too late.
  12. Looking at the stats on ESPN, it looks like a decent game. A couple things stand out for me though... Singletary with only 2 points? No minutes for Jamir Andrews? Did I miss something there? Nice to see Nichols getting some minutes. I couldn't watch or listen... We're there any updates on Travis Charles condition?
  13. Blah Blah - $9.95? Any BPFans going to the game? Install Periscope on your phone and broadcast it for free If you do it, let me know your username so I can follow...
  14. Not sure when Hooley grew the beard back, but I am crediting that with his shots going in tonight. Maybe it was a few games ago, but I didn't notice before today.
  15. Board has been quiet lately, so I figured I would comment in this thread. Anyone have any info on this game? Is it streaming anywhere? SF(NYBKN) is 4-8 so far on the season and plays in the NEC. They lost their last game to St. Peters. For similar opponents they lost to NJIT 92-86, and beat Hartford 74-67. I guess it should be a decent test since it is on the road?
  16. I didn't make last night's game due to the death of a friend, but my wife and kids went. I watched most of the game on my tablet. The stands looked darker than they did in the St. Francis game. During that game they left one light on over the non-chair back seats on each sideline. I personally liked it that way. Seemed darker yesterday. Anyone go to both games?
  17. Crowd may not be that bad, they gave all fans that stayed to the end of the St. Francis game after the fire drill a voucher for 2 free tickets to this game. I know I am bringing a few people that will be in town in addition to my season tickets.
  18. Got the close game alert from my yahoo sports app and was hitting refresh every few seconds. Seemed like a very good game. Wish there was radio coverage of the team.
  19. Also, last game there was a problem with the lights being off over the crowd and they stopped play to fix it. They are off again tonight, but it seem like its on purpose. I like it.
  20. Everyone is back in, teams are warming back up. Concession stands not yet open, but the beer garden is. Aaaah sweet relief.
  21. The CAA is a better league. As a stepping stone, I'm all for it. I just don't think that it is a wise move unless it is as a temporary plan. And by temporary, I mean 10 years. I just don't see that league as so much better that it will draw more fans or create more interest in. Has any team from that leave ever received an at large bid? To me is seems like a more expensive league with a lower chance of dancing. Great for more talent, and better competition, but not so great for the wallet unless it is just a stop on the way up.
  22. CAA is a higher league. That is why some would want it. I don't see the benefit myself. It's an increase in expense and the basketball is not so much better that it would help us draw more fans. It got off topic around page 15 or 16 when moving to the CAA was brought up, and trying to get 10,000 rabid fans. My whole argument was that a move to another mid-major conference would not do that for us. People in this area do not seem to get excited or attend things that aren't TOP level. Unless UA has ambition to move to the BCS level for football and basketball I see no point in moving up a league or 2. It's just not worth it. I think I said go big or dont go at all.
  23. I wasn't saying it was impressive for similar schools. Never thought I even hinted at that. What I was saying is that it is impressive for a town the size of Syracuse that is located in the northeast which as an area is not known for supporting football. Highschool or college level. The Albany MSA is larger population wise and disposable income wise (based on the MSA study posted in the Albany Business Review a few years ago) and I don't see our population giving that type of support.
  24. LOL, I'll admit when I'm wrong. The valley cats attendance was better than I thought, but still not what it could be. I don't know what their capacity is, but they average 4kish and their biggest attendance for a game ever was just shy of 8k per the link someone shared. I do know people there who have complained privately so I guess I thought it was worse than it is. Syracuse doesn't sell out for every game, but they have sold out, and I'm sorry but averaging over 30k is impressive. LCC never made the sweet 16, but back to back NCAA wins over big schools to go to the round of 32 did get people to go. No idea why I remembered them being the same year. Yes Syracuse AAA attendance does suck. For some reason I thought they were doing well, but that must have been a long time ago. Not sure if I made anything else up. All that said, the point was the same. The average capital District sports fans won't attend or get behind something that isn't top level.
  25. I for one would not be happy with a schedule of only 1 or 2 OOC home games. Even with some big wins, I don't think it's worth it. I like to go to the games. That said, to echo comments from the $isn't thread: I love it if UA could make contracts similar to the old Syracuse contract. Do 3:1 or 4:1 with 4 of 5 top level schools. Use the TUC for 1-2 games a year. If you sign 4:1 with 4 schools, we could have an impressive OOC schedule and then each year get to see a major program at "home". Syracuse next year, Duke the hear after, Kentucky the next year, then Florida State. Actually, I wonder if it would be possible to sign a contract with a conference instead of an individual school. Say sign a deal with the ACC. One if their schools comes here every year and UA visits 3 of there schools every year. That would keep variety of teams up, give a stronger OOC, and get big names here for the home schedule.
