  1. FWIW, I heard the Utah and Utah Valley trip is in late December.
  2. Wyland reported tonight that Carl Ross signed with UAlbany.
  3. That there was no pre or post game Syracuse lax game coverage (despite it being the headline story in the Gazette) and no locally written story yesterday leads me to believe that Mark Singelais is on vacation. Any other statement i may make could lead to a further allegation of penis envy. I apologize for the cintinued use of that phrase, but it'll be a long time til i stop being amused by it.
  4. http://www.insidelacrosse.com/sagarinmen/ Note the number of D-2 and D-3 schools with better power rankings than #66
  5. Tom Hill - baseball player of the week Casey Halloran - softball pitcher of the week Corey Small - lacrosse rookie of the week
  6. I thought it could be interesting again to choose out forum award winners for UAlbany Male athlete, Female athlete and Coach of the Year. Using the same format as last year, please post your top 5 in each category, with 1 being the best. The deadline will be Monday, May 1 at 12 noon. After that time I'll tally the points, using a 5-4-3-2-1 system (5 for first, 4 for second, etc.). You may modify your choices until noon on Monday May 1. Last year the forum correctly picked Luke Daquino and Blair Buchanan as the University's Male & Female Athletes of the Year. Use whatever criteria you want - there's no right or wrong. I'll go first: Male athlete: 1. Jamar Wilson - basketball 2. Gered Burns - track 3. Frank Resitarits - lacrosse 4. Colin Disch - football 5. Tom Hill - baseball Female athlete: 1. Blair Buchanan - volleyball 2. Casey Halloran - softball 3. Ashlee Reed - volleyball 4. Jessica Ortman - track 5. Tina Bryson - field hockey Coach: 1. Will Brown - mens basketball 2. Roberto Vives - track & field 3. Chris Cannata - softball 4. Kelly Sheffield - volleyball 5. Scott Marr - mens lacrosse
  7. Syracuse wins 14-13 in OT. Danes come back from 6-0, 8-2 and 12-6 deficits; score the last 6 goals in regulation. A very exciting game. I urge everyone to come out and support this team next Saturday night vs Binghamton.
  8. Well, it is a slow week. I was going to rant about one of our favorite subjects - our home town newspaper. The top of the page headline of the Gazette's Sports section today is about tonight's lacrosse game against Syracuse; while the home town paper (which according to itself is exploring buying the Knick Arena naming rights) has nothing. But, your idea to liven the day up is just as good. Not to be too serious, but wasn't it last year or so that the Fleet Center ( or whatever it's called now) was auctioning off naming rights for a day and some UNC big buck alum bought the rights for a day and wanted to name it the Duke Sucks Arena for a day?
  9. does anyone know if the game will be on the big screen at the Across the Street Pub?
  10. Congrats; i'm sure it is well deserved. You provide a lot of good information on this forum and i am very glad you'll be around.
  11. and Laura Gremillion had a one hitter in the second game. But softball is not the big athletic news of the day. In women's tennis: Danes 4 - Siena 3
  12. maybe i just dreamed this: Murph told Lee he had penis envy of John D'Argenio; Lee slugged Murph in the face.

  17. UALBANY MEN'S BASKETBALL BANQUET WILL TAKE PLACE ON MAY 4 AT CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL Albany, N.Y. -- The historical achievements of the 2005-06 University at Albany men's basketball team will be celebrated at the program's annual postseason awards banquet, on Thursday, May 4 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on State & Lodge Streets in downtown Albany. The Great Danes captured the America East Conference regular-season and tournament championships in 2005-06. UAlbany (21-11) reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time as a Division I program, plus posted the highest single-season win total in 12 years. The dinner and awards program begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost for the dinner, which includes food and beverage, is $25 per person. A cash bar will also be available. Reservations can be made by contacting Jeremy Friel at 518-442-3036. The reservation deadline is May 1. UAlbany's senior class of Levi Levine, Lucious Jordan, Kirsten Zoellner and Jerrad Knotts will be honored at the event. Head coach Will Brown will also present team awards and show a video of this year's championship season.
  18. About - face. I heard Vandenburgh on with Mayor Jennings this morning. Vandenburgh mentioned he had lunch with Lee McElroy this week and found McElroy to be one of the hidden gems of the region. Vandenburgh said that he came to the lunch only knowing 2 things about McElroy, one that he heard an interview once where McElroy was evasive and two, that he never saw McElroy smile and he came away from the lunch wanting McElroy to adopt him - to which Mayor Jennings replied "Paul, he's far to smart to do that" Vandenburgh and the Mayor then each added that McElroy has been able to lead an athletics department which recruits athletes who are good academically and of good character. A very positive 5 or so minutes of radio.
  19. I'm trying to understand the particulars of this proposed tournament from reading posts on the Siena Board, since I have seen nothing about it anywhere else. The following is my understanding, and I would truely appreciate being corrected if I misunderstand: The tournament would have 8 teams from 8 different conferences including Siena as the MAAC team and Albany as the AE team. It seems the other 6 teams could come from the Big East, A10, MAC, CAA, Patriot, NEC or Ivy. The 8 teams would be divided into 2 pools of 4 teams each. Each team would play a round robin within the pool and the 4th and final game would be a cross-over. The first 2 rounds would be plkayed on participants home courts (each team getting one home and one away game). The 3rd and 4th games would be played at the Pepsi in the form of two separate admission doubleheaders per day. Albany and Siena would not be in the same session for either the 3rd or 4th round. The first round would be on the weekend of Nov 10-12; the second round would be mid-week Nov 13-16 and the 3rd and 4th rounds would be on the weekend of Nov 17-19. The Albany-Siena game would be a 2nd round game at the Pepsi on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Since Albany is the visitor at the Siena game, i assume that we will get a home game at the RACC for the 1st round game. I think this means that within a 9 day period, we will get to see our team play 4 times, once at the RACC and 3 times at the Pepsi, which I view as a good thing. To me, the negatives are having the Siena game mid-week. The Siena game has come to drawing a fair number of alumni from outside the Capital District; a midweek game reduces the possibility of people being able to travel in and also reduces the opportunities for pre and post game parties. Personnaly, I much prefer the game to be on a weekend or Friday night. The other negative is that, essentially our money will be going to support Siena.
  20. If we're going to be concerned with message board rumors/suggestions, it should be noted that on the laxpower m,essage board, someone posted a thought that Scott Marr would be a good replacement at Dook. As for escape clauses, i believe Dr. McElroy has stated on many occasions that he would not let a contract stand in the way of a coach leaving for a better job. This type of understanding is a must at our level.
  21. It looks like when VCU comes to the RACC next season, they'll have a new coach. ESPN is reporting Jeff Capel to Oklahoma.
  22. So Patch, what are you saying? If Lehigh doesn't cheat, then Levi doesn't get 2 Ts, and Levi doesn't get suspended 2 games, and Levi plays against LIU, and we beat LIU? OK, i'm sold.
  23. She was the sister of Pitt Coach, Jamie Dixon. Jamie Dixon and Coach Brown are very good friends.
  24. Dane 96 - Is Commander Tighe the guy who's always drinking out of the flask? I could play him in the Battlestar Gallactica Big Purple Fans episode. Funny how SienaTony never moved the sting with the Jewish crack to the smack board.
  25. Dane 96 - was that the first Battlestar Gallactica reference in the history of the forum?
