That's putting it out on the table. I'm not sure I fully understand all the implications of these requests, but I know this: 1. More land is essential - Dr. Jones demanded it 2. Better professional degree offerigns are essential - Dr. Jones demanded it and the flexibility to do so could add law and medical even though he doesn't specifically say that. 3. Non-compete agreement with Nano (e.g., no competitive degree offerings) are essential - he demanded it I don't understand the research foundation allocation, but it sounds like we've been getting hosed for a long time.

All good and well until they decide they don't need one in Northern NYS as NANO is here...who needs 5 when you can have four? Perhaps the benefits of this will be more apparent down the road and with time we recover but our research output is going to take a massive hit even if for the most part it was already separate. There is zero chance at any AAU invite moving forward for a very long time. Highly unlikely that we'll ever be in a position to incubate something similar... I don't think its even conceivable to fold up UAlbany. I also think that CNSE will be a statewide institution headquartered in Albany within the next 5 years. I can almost guarantee you will see it scoop up any similar programs at any other SUNY schools into its separate administration and build buildings in Buffalo, Long Island, Syracuse, Binghamton, etc.... Cuomo will make sure of it.
-
Can anyone blame CNSE though? Take off our collective purple and gold glasses and look at what they've done. They hated everything about SUNY that we hate and they built up enough power and allies (Cuomo) to overcome the disadvantages inhereint in the SUNY system. It may be only a matter of time before they create some sort of pararell system to SUNY. SUNY itself better wake up though. This silo'ed, redundant administrative system in place is outdated and needs to be changed. Make it 5 university centers (Albany, Bing, SBU, UB and CNSE) with every other campus a sattelite campus of each of those based on geography. One president and board of trustees per region. Legislature should appropriate funding to the regional level and the the regional administration should handle their own budget from there on down. Albany --> Northern NY State University Bing --> Central NY State University Buffalo --> Western NY State University SBU --> Southern NY State University Nano --> New York State Tech Done.

Yes they would because this is a Cuomo thing. Anyone who thinks it's not is kidding themselves. And people think Spitzer was a steamroller. Bingo
-
The land could be a lot. CNSE has a lot of land. I don't know about the rest though, although it sounds a lot like alimony to me. Which is exactly what we should get considering without UA, Nano doesn't exist.
-
Exactly why Dr Jones should be doing. SBU and UB pols have been taking food from UA's mouth in the name of "Nano Funding" for years.
-
What would a rode-map to that end look like? Those would certainly be great consolation prizes I just don't see a way to get there. Why would either want to subjugate themselves to UA? Depends on what is offered to them. Everyone has a price.

Lets wait and see what this Memo of Understanding brings. In my ind though, its time to focus on expanding UAlbany's footprint into Harriman campus and absorbing Abany Law and Albany Med.

CAA!

The CAA football TV schedule will be released on Wed. I'm not expecting to get any major games, although we may be the opponent for JMU since its their family weekend and it would be a great atmosphere to put on NBC Sports. -
It's is extremely interesting because the President's right hand, Fardin Sanai was on the committee the wrote the report. Also interesting is the joint statement. UAlbany is getting something beneficial out of this deal. It's just not clear yet what it is.

You can adopt a Great Dane for about $200. Tons of rescue groups. They are also prone to deafness, which is actually perfect for a loud stadium. The deaf ones ar also generally the runts and not sellable (=free). We had one when I played. He was a players dog. -

Lacrosse is a niche sport still that gets very little national attention relatively speaking. Basketball is really the only team that gets true national attention when they make the tourney. And again, our teams get national attention for winning. Not a goofy mascot. Changing logos is a HUGE expense. Especially now that you have major changes to a stadium that would need to be made (turf, etc..) If you guys are just looking for something to talk about as a "wish list" then fine. But it sounds like some of you really want this to be a priority. -

The Blue Turf was installed in 1986. They were Division I at the time (in the Big Sky since 1978 as DI conference). No one cared then. Shoot they even won the 1980 I-AA national championship. -
Anyone in the know [brutus perhaps} able to answer these questions? Anyone else been to the stadium and counted the rows?? The plans call for additional rows to go in. If you look at the webcam you can see there is space in between the stairs that go from teh lower level to the concourse. The last row is up against the backwall that they are working on now. Which, btw might be some of the best seats in the house - you can lean right back against that wall I think. There are nine rows installed, and yes they can put another row in front of the wall (possible wheelchair seats?) but I don't see getting to twelve rows unless they go behind that wall. Plans call for 11 in front of the wall and 1 behind the wall whcih I assume is handicap seating.

Boise State had blue turf for years and no one cared.......until they started winning. -
The erosion around the sidewalk is pretty nuts. It looks like they are starting the finished fence/gate work and the other day they were spreading fill around the ticket booth. I'm hoping that means they start the concourse hard/landscape work soon. If I remember correctly, I think there is a good amount of trees and other landscapes that will go in.
